We Knead You! Kitten Season is in full swing which means shelters are full of fluff-balls like us in search of homes. We are with Cat Adoption Team and, at last count, they had 17 kittens! I’m Matisse, the tiny orange boy on the left. Next to me is my buddy, McAllister. He’s a white and orange boy. I was found abandoned at a pump house and McAllister was living under a shed. We’re happy, healthy kittens who are thriving at our foster home in Wilmington and we are ready for adoption. To meet us or any of the other available kittens, simply text or call our friends from Cat Adoption Team at 910-599-2755 or send an email to catnc@earthlink.net and let’s plan a day and time to meet.
We’d like to thank Michael Cline Photography for giving us this chance to find forever families. We enjoyed all the attention and couldn’t have been more purr-fect cover models. ♥

My name is Skeeter and I’m the sweetest young boy with creamy orange fur, so buttery soft. You’ll love to pet me and I’ll just melt at your touch. I enjoy meeting new people and I also get along well with other cats. I’m a playful fellow, too, and have been known to chase the laser light all around the room! My sister and I came to the shelter many months ago. She has found her forever home and I am more than ready to find mine. At 1-year-old, I’m neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and litterbox-trained. Please come scoop me up in your arms and let’s fall in love! You’ll find me at Pender County Humane Society in Burgaw. It’s open every day, so give them a call at 910-259-7022 for visiting hours!

My name’s Ollie and I’m a low-key, 9-pound Pekingese boy who just wants to curl up with a blanket on the couch and snuggle the days away. Doesn't every dog deserve that when they get to the golden age of nine? My friends here at Paws Place describe me as a sweet, laid-back and low-maintenance snuggler, but don’t let that fool you. I love to play with my toys and go on walks, too. Just look at these mastered puppy dog eyes! I can’t wait to bring joy and laughter into my forever family’s life. You can meet me at Paws Place on Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm, and no appointment is necessary. You can also call 910-845-7297 or email info@pawsplace.org to find out more. Who could say no to this adorable face?

RUSSELL RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS
I’m a sweet little lady named Zoey and I’ve spent a whole year looking for you. I waddle like I am ancient but the vet says I’m 7-years-old. I have some early onset arthritis, but Adequan injections have changed my life! I love playing with my toys, visiting with my fur friends, watching squirrels run around on the back deck, and being with my humans. I enjoy going on walks and taking car rides to meet up for playdates with my canine friends. My foster parents adore me and want the best for me. I tend to get snarky when it comes to the vet, ear cleaning, and taking meds, so I’d like a patient and understanding human. Please email RussellRescueNC@gmail.com, call 910-367-5105, or visit www.russellrescuecarolinas.com.
PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM
Yooo Hoooo! Cute alert!
My name is Peanut and I’m only 1½-years-old. I’m a petite girl at just 26 pounds and they tell me I’m a Jack Russell / Feist mix. I’m in training with the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program and graduate at the end of June. I’m spayed, up to date on shots and even microchipped! I come with my own crate, walking harness, favorite toys and bed. I love to play with other dogs and am a great snuggling partner once I’m tired out. To make me part of your family, fill out an application at www.montyshome.org or email Gail at adopt@montyshome.org. If you’d prefer to call, her phone number is 732-693-8462.
Hi, my name is Skippy and I’m a member of the Nutty Buddies group through the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. I graduated the training program at the end of April and can you believe I haven’t found a home yet? I’m a 2-year-old Husky mix boy with beautiful blue eyes. I am crate-trained and come with my own crate, walking harness and training video. In the video, you’ll see all I’ve learned in my seven weeks of training. I’d prefer to be an only dog but I LOVE people! To adopt me, please call Gail at 732-693-8462 or email adopt@montyshome.org. You can also fill out an application at www.montyshome.org and she will call you!
RESCUECONNECT
My name is Texas and I am a chunky low-rider! I am a really smart girl and even though I’m 7-years-old, I still have a lot of energy. I am super-sweet and do get along with most dogs. I’m looking for a home without cats, chickens or young children. I know sit, stay and wait, and I’m house-trained. I love going on walks and I love to give kisses! A home with a fenced yard where I can run and play would be ideal for me. I have my bags packed and I am waiting and ready for my forever family! Call 910-352-5150 or 910-302-7290 or visit www.rescueconnectnc.com for info or to adopt. ♥
Hi, my name is Biggie and I lost my dad last year. I am a sweet and loving boy but I can take a little time to settle in to a new environment. I love to run around the yard and get loved on. I am about 6-years-old and I tend to hang pretty close to my foster mom. I am house-trained and learning to walk on a leash. If I were to have any other canine siblings, ones my size are what I’m most comfortable with. I have come a long way and will continue my progress with a loving family. I sure do miss my dad but I’m ready to find my next adventure. To be my family, call 910-302-7290 or visit www.rescueconnectnc.com. ♥
WAGON TAILS FARM
Hello! I’m Bubba Gimp, an impressive Rottie boy! Other than my humans, my favorite thing in life is tennis balls! I’ve been through so much in my 4-years of life that I need a patient and understanding home to love me, keep me safe, and allow me to just be a dog. It can take me a few days to warm up to strange men, but within a few days and treats, we’ll be best friends. I’m a tripod due to a gunshot injury but despite that, I’m a happy, fun-loving dog who is just waiting for a home to call my very own! To apply for me, go to www.wagontailsfarm.org/adopt and start the application process. For info, call 910-375-3105. ♥

I am Kitty, a beautiful and very friendly 10-year-old girl. I certainly don't look or act my age. I came to the shelter with two of my friends because our mom passed away. I am getting used to living in a new place, but what I really want is a family of my own. I get along well with other cats and I have been around dogs, but people are my favorite! I am spayed, I have all my shots and I am ready for my forever home! To adopt, call 910-455-9682, email capsrescue@yahoo.com or visit us online at www.capsrescue.com. ♥
FRIENDS OF FELINES
Hi, my name is Tanner and I'm a 1-year-old white and orange Tabby boy. I was born last summer behind a business and had five other siblings. I've been with my foster mom since June but I'm still waiting for a home of my own. I'm pretty laid-back and affectionate, but I'm a little nervous meeting new people, so I need someone who will give me a little time to get to know them. Then you'll see how sweet and loving I am. I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. If you would like to meet me, please call 910-232-7741 or email friendsofelines@aol.com. ♥
COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (CARE)
I’m a very sweet Orange
Tabby boy named Ludwig
You may remember me from past issues. I had found a home, but my pet parent developed a medical condition that prevented her from continuing to care for me. So, which one of you reading this will adopt me and take me back into the home environment I so love?
I’m a fun and feisty guy who will do well in a single cat household with adults only. I enjoy plenty of play time and am one of the handsomest cats around, if I do say so myself. Email carewilmington@yahoo.com or call 910-256-2624 and let’s plan a time to get together! ♥
HAMILTON’S HEALING HEARTS
My name is Brinkley and I arrived at the shelter over a year and a half ago. I was so scared that I didn’t even know what it was like to be a dog. Through my foster mom’s love, I’ve started to come out of my shell. I prefer a quiet home and I’m a pretty low-key dog who just wants a couch to chill on. If you will give me time to adjust, I’ll be your loyal girl. I’m around 4-years of age and a small German Shepherd mix. Out of all the dogs here, they tell me I’m the one who really deserves a home. I’ve won all their hearts and I know I can win yours, too. To adopt me, please call 910-271-5170 or email hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com. ♥
I’m Mr. Wilson and I am deaf but that does not stop me. I am very affectionate, love car rides and meeting new people. I do great with dogs but not cats as I like to chase them. I recently began a 6-week professional obedience course and have been learning all kinds of things. I have a willingness to learn and to adapt to my deafness and I’m learning new training skills. I’m very active and would do well with an active family. I’m 2½-years-old, neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. Please call 910-271-5170 or email hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com for more info on me. ♥
What’s up dog lovers? My name is Chevy and I’m a sweet, 22 pound Miniature Pinscher mix. I’m already house-trained and cratetrained and with a proper introduction, I do well with other dogs. I am currently being fostered with six other dogs and do great (although I prefer to eat solo). I’m great with cats as well. I am 6-years-old, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. I love to sleep in bed and curl up with you every night and watch TV. Be smart and use that smart phone to call me at 910-271-5170 or send an email to hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com.

I’m Phoebe, a 1-year-old, 35-pound Boxer mix who is sweet, loving, friendly and playful! My happy-golucky personality is apparent for all to see, and I enjoy all types of toys. I am hearing impaired, so I need a family who is knowledgeable about deaf dogs. Also, another dog in the house to learn the ropes from would be beneficial, too! My deafness doesn’t get me down - I make friends everywhere I go! I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. If you are looking to brighten up your life, come meet me Monday through Friday from 10am until 2pm at the New Hanover Humane Society. You can also call 910-763-6692 with any questions.

I enjoy all types of toys and am very social. The staff say I’m an absolute goof ball and lots of fun to be around. I’m already neutered so you don’t have to worry about that. Oh, if you have another dog at home already, please bring him or her over to meet me! I’m at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit and adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For more info, please call 910-798-7500.

◄I’m sweet Cora, a 7½-month-old kitten girl with beautiful fur markings. I’m a bit shy upon meeting, but I do warm up and enjoy purring while you pet me. I am vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and litterbox-trained. I’ll be waiting for you in the playroom, so hurry over today! ♥
►Notice how comfortable I am in front of the camera? That’s because I’m a social, friendly and relaxed boy who enjoys hanging out with humans and being their best friend!
My name is Frankie and I’m just the sweetest little fellow who loves to be held. My favorite place to be is in your arms or on your shoulder while I purr and purr away! At 1-year of age, I’m neutered, up to date on vaccines and litterboxtrained. I was born to be someone's dearest companion, so I hope you'll do yourself a big favor and meet me today! ♥
▲Hi! I’m Piper, an 8½-month-old short-haired kitten girl. I’m a very observant kitty. I like watching you, and then when I’m comfortable, I’ll come over to greet you. I am spayed, up to date on vaccines, liltterbox-trained and microchipped. You and I could have a happy and loving life together, but first you must come meet me! ♥
◄Hi, I’m Deacon, a 1-year-old German Shepherd boy who is very affectionate! I love my walks and I love chasing any ball. I’m a busy boy so a fenced yard at my new home is a must. I am up to date on all my vaccinations, I’m neutered and I’ve also been microchipped. If you’d like to meet me and see how friendly and handsome I am in person, give the shelter a call and let’s make it happen! I’ll be waiting. ♥
◄Hi, my name is Scout! I’m a playful young girl with a happy and fun-loving personality. At just 1-year-old, I’m so pretty in my black and white tuxedo and I just adore being held in someone’s arms while I purr and purr. I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations and litterbox-trained. Please come get to know me - I’m a true gem just waiting to be discovered! ♥
◄We are Ginger (the Calico girl on the left) and Knox (the silver Tabby boy on the right) and we are back at the shelter through no fault of our own! That’s right, we were adopted in October last year but sadly a human house member had allergies to cats, so back to the shelter we came. We lived with two dogs in the home, so if you have a cat-friendly dog, that’s ok with us! We just turned 1-year-old and are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, litterbox-trained and microchipped. We have friendly, loving, engaging personalities and we hope to stay together. Please come and meet us! ♥

I’m ready for belly rubs! My name is Darwin (A466817) and I’m the cutest little thing on four legs. I’m an older pup at 10-years of age, but that just means I’m well-trained and well-adjusted and ready to slide right on into the family. I'm a neutered Lab mix who is great with other dogs. I’m also terrific with children and guess what, I am fine with cats, too! The shelter staff say I’ve behaved beautifully, so I hope you’ll visit soon and see that for yourself! For more info, call New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit at 910-798-7500.

▲Hi, I am a very handsome long-haired boy named Simba. I am neutered, 3-years-old, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and tested negative for heartworms. I got all my shots and treatment for an ear infection. I will go back for booster shots and another checkup soon. I am very gentle and have a kind personality, but get spooked by loud noises. I’d love to find a quieter home and I get along with cats and small breed dogs. ♥
►Meow! I’m Clyde and I was born September 30 of last year. I was the smallest of my siblings but I am the loudest talker. I enjoy the simple pleasures in life (aka cardboard boxes and cuddles). I can make biscuits anywhere! I purr super loud when you pet or hold me. I get along very well with cats of all ages and love to hang out with cat buddies. I’m neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and am on flea prevention. I’m ready to bring lots of fun to my forever home! ♥
►Hi, I'm Max! I'm a 2½-year-old, neutered and microchipped boy who is up to date on vaccinations. I tested positive for FIV antibodies, but am healthy and do not have any symptoms. I am a very well-behaved guy who loves to play and cuddle with humans. Even though I tested positive for FIV, I can live a long, happy, life!
Feline FIV does not transmit to humans or dogs. I’ll do great as a single cat or as a buddy for an FIV antibody positive kitty! ♥

◄Hi friends, I’m Handsome (A465457)! I guess it’s pretty obvious how I got that name. At just 1½-years-old, I’m a playful and energetic boy who could benefit from some training. I’m food motivated, but what I really crave is attention and affection. (I will hug you!) I’m a neutered Pit Bull who plays well with other dogs, but I do best with those less dominant and more my size. If you already have a dog, bring him or her out to meet me! ♥

It’s me, Willow, and I am begging you to get me out of here! I was surrendered (no fault of my own) and feel completely lost. I am cat and dog friendly and actually prefer a home with other fur babies to hang out with. So here are some things to know about me: I am a 7-year-old girl, perfectly sized at 44-pounds, and I have a calm, old-soul personality. I am also outgoing, affectionate, and super-sweet. I may not run zoomies like a puppy anymore, but I do enjoy a good stroll on the beach, around the park, or frankly anywhere I can explore with my Beagle nose! Did I mention I walk beautifully on leash? I don’t want to brag, but that’s the word on the street here at Paws Place. I am so ready to find my forever home! Just drive on over and meet me - the shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm, and no appointment is necessary. ►Hi, I'm Goulash. I survived the deadly cat disease FIP thanks to new FIP medication and TLC from the folks at All 4 Cats. It slowed me down in the beginning but now that I am cured, I'm a nonstop lover girl who loves to play and eat Temptation treats! I get along very well with other cats and children. Oh, I love to chew boxes, too! ♥
Adoption Fairs EVERY Saturday from 11am - 3pm at Pet Supplies Plus in Porters Neck or call 910-707-4372 to meet by appointment.
►Hello! My name is Gumby and I am a very sweet and affectionate 1-year-old boy. I love being the center of attention and being petted constantly. I get along well with dogs, cats, and childrenI simply love them all. My ideal home would have other furry companions, because I LOVE playing with other animals. Could your home be the perfect family for me? ♥
►We’re Stitch and Cherry Blossom, a bonded pair of 11-month-old girls who will not be separated. We’ve been told we are a perfect combo of charisma and beauty. My name is Stitch and I’m a white Tabby and I love attention and getting cuddles. Because I’m blind, I get scared of loud noises and tend to bump into things, so my new home will need to be safeguarded. Cherry Blossom is a Siamese/Ragdoll mix with a super cute voice and she loves to hear herself talk. She likes attention, petting, and playing, but on her terms. She is friendly, but more independent than me. More than anything, we need each other and have survived a very difficult beginning of our lives. We do well with cats and children, and would likely be good with calm dogs with a slow introduction. If you’re interested, please contact us for more information. ♥
►My name is Frannie and I am a strikingly beautiful, 1-year-old girl with a bubbly personality. I am very playful, adventurous, curious, and love a good cuddle. I have mild CH (cerebellar hypoplasia), which means the part of my brain that controls motor functions isn’t fully developed. CH is not progressive, and I have a normal life expectancy with no special needs. It just means I'm wobbly at times and my balance isn’t great, but my condition is mild. I've been told it’s quite endearing, actually. I am social and with a proper introduction, I get along with other cats. I love to cuddle and hang out with one of my foster’s personal cats. I've been looking for a forever family for 1½-years. ♥
◄I’m Kanu, a quintessential goofball. I am 7-years-old and more loving than you can imagine. I use my tongue a loteither it’s sticking out like in this picture, it’s grooming other cats, or it’s licking your forehead. I like to sit right on top of my foster dad’s head and either sleep or groom. I love to play and I do great with other cats, but my favorite thing to do is cuddle with you. I would likely not do great with toddlers and infants as I sometimes get so excited with attention that I get overstimulated. I had been surviving on the streets for a long time and when I was rescued, I was completely emaciated and had a broken front tooth. My tooth has been removed, the other teeth cleaned, and I have gained back all my weight...and then some. If you are looking for a best buddy, look no further! ♥
◄My name is Yuki and I can't believe I've been looking for my forever home for 1½-years. I am a gorgeous 3-year-old tuxedo girl with lots of love to give, but I need time and patience as I am initially timid. I'm still learning how to cuddle and be a lap cat, but I really enjoy the company of my human family even if it's just being in the same room. I do sit for brief periods on a lap or beside my human on the couch, and as time passes in a comfortable home, I will get even better. I tolerate dogs and cats but would be best as an only pet so I have your undivided attention and affection. I'm a very chill kitty, but will bat a small toy around now and then. Please contact us to meet me in my foster home. ♥

My name is Copper, and I’m a bit like the grumpy but loveable Oscar Madison of “The Odd Couple.” I’m a sweet, older guy who is calm and submissive around other dogs, but I get a little irritated if someone bothers me while I’m sleeping. I’m a 15-year-old boy and came to CBHR with fellow Basset Lily. We were together a long time, but she unexpectedly crossed the Rainbow Bridge in late February 2022. So now I’m alone. As a mature dude, I find change a little difficult and need time to feel comfortable in a new situation - but I am not aggressive. I am showing a lot of improvement and I’m well-mannered and affectionate. It’s best to approach me slowly if you want to pet me, but I really do like those rubs. I get along with my foster family’s young grandchildren, but as with most dogs, I should be watched around children. I like to sleep on my dog bed and my mobility is pretty good for an older guy. I also like to play, I have a good appetite, and I don’t jump on the furniture because I’m a low-rider dog and prefer the floor. I know I’m no puppy, but I still have a lot of love left to give. To adopt me or another Basset, call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 888-909-2387 or visit www.cbhr.com.
I am sponsored in loving memory of Sprout, KC, Babe, Grace, Beauty, Frodo, Sassy, Max, Twinkle, Casper, Coach, Flower, Nell, Duffy, Melody, Whisper, and Raspberry.

◄I'm Bubbles and just like my name I am a bubbly young 7-month-old Pit Bull girl who is ready to soak in all that life has to offer. I love to give kisses, play with my toys and, at 33 pounds, I am the perfect size for snuggling! I love learning new things, going for walks on the beach, strolling in the neighborhood or just hanging out with you! ♥
◄I’m Gavin, a 1-year-old, 40-pound Shepherd mix boy who likes to travel, go to parks, hike mountains, splash around at the beaches, and sniff out adventures! If that describes you too, we could be a perfect match! I am quite the goofball and love to play so I hope my forever humans like to have fun. An adult-only home would be pefect for me. Please hurry over, I just can’t wait to meet you! ♥
▲I’m Whiskey, a 63-pound Lab mix lover who is looking for someone with a huge heart like me! At 1½-years-old, my favorite activities are giving kisses, cuddling, being a lap dog, and getting lots and lots of loving. Can you tell I am a playful love bug? I am a smart boy, too. I already know ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and can’t wait to learn more things from my forever family. When you come visit me on the grounds, I will bring out my stuffed toys, just like the one seen here in my photo. I can’t wait to meet you! ♥
◄Hi, I’m Jasper, a 4-year-old ‘go with the flow’ kind of guy! I love to play but I also enjoy a good cuddle, too. I already know sit and am a fun-loving, gentle, 54-pound social butterfly who is more than ready to be your best friend. I do have to tell you one thing, though. I recently tested positive for heartworms, but don’t you worry, I started my treatment and will get rid of them soon. If you would like to meet me, please come visit, I’ll be waiting! ♥
◄Hi! I'm Brie! I am very playful and will give you big kisses of appreciation when you spend time with me. I love to play fetch, too, so if you’ve got a fenced backyard, that’s a bonus! I’d love a human who can give me structure and help burn off my 5-year-old gal energy. I hope to find a confident leader who will help me master my leash manners and teach me more basic commands. At 58 pounds, I’m a Redbone Coohound beauty who already knows ‘sit’. I am such a good girl and have so much potential. I’m ready to be your co-pilot! ♥
◄Hello, my name is Beau! I am the best 4-year-old, 42-pound Hound boy you ever did see! I’m also a ’Tripawd’, which is a dog with three legs, and I’m feeling a little bit left out since people just keep walking by my kennel even when I look at them with puppy dog eyes, begging to get snuggles. Believe me, being 3-legged doesn’t slow me down one bit! So if you want a lovebug Hound who loves to show off his toys, sunbathe on warm days, and snuggle the nights away, I am defintely your guy! Come meet me today! ♥

My name is Rue and I’m an 8-year-old female Yellow Lab. Do not let my age fool you, I have type A+ personality. I get along with most dogs but can be a bit much for some due to my energy level. I thrive in a lively home, especially with teenagers or active adults to run and play with. My previous family had a very small child and it wasn’t a good fit. That said, I am extremely sweet and loving and smart. I will do just about anything for a treat or a ball. Just imagine the possibilities! After playtime, I will lay next to you while you are working or watching TV. I am spayed, house-trained, and vaccinated. I am the complete companion, ready to move in and begin our life together. To learn more about me and how we can meet, please call or text Sean with A Shelter Friend at 910-918-5118.

We’re a loveable duo named Tux (A466887) and Whiskers (A466886) and we were once housemates. Now, through no fault of our own, we find ourselves in search of a new home. That’s me, Tux, the black and white boy. Whiskers is a boy, too, an Orange Tabby. We get along really great and we’re so sweet with all the staff. At 9-years-old, we’re looking for a family who will pet us, cuddle us and enjoy our laid-back, friendly personalities. We don’t have to be adopted together, but it sure would be nice! We can keep each other company while you’re at work or out on the town.
Come meet us at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit in Wilmington. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For more info, call 910-798-7500.

◄I’m Mabeline, a beautifully mixed white baby girl with patches of Tabby-like calico colors. At just 3-months-old, I could be twins with Madeline, pictured down below, except that I have an adorable pink nose. I’m also a total sweetheart who is spreading my wings in the safety of a foster home. If you’ve been looking to add a little fluff and sunshine to your home, think about adopting a kitten or two. You’ll never regret it! Call or text 910-599-2755 today! ♥
►Hi there, my name is Jackie! I’m a young adult girl, about 3-years-old, and I was rescued from the mean streets. I’m a gray and white Tabby with a wonderful personality. I’m gentle, laid-back, I get along with other cats and also kids. All I want is to be loved. I appreciate snuggles and being petted. To meet me, please text or call Cat Adoption Team (CAT) at 910-599-2755. ♥
◄I’m Madeline, a beautiful white and Calico-Tabby baby girl who is just 3 to 4-months-old.
I’d love to tell you all about myself, but frankly my curious and gentle expression just gives it away! I spend my days chasing glittery balls, napping in patches of sunshine, tumbling with other kittens and getting my ears scratched in between. Isn’t life wonderful, even more so with kittens! Please call or text 910-599-2755 to meet me and my kitten pals. ♥
◄Put me on your calendar for June! I’m Eclipse and I’m not sure if I’m a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse but I am definitely ready for my forever home! I’m a black and white boy who loves playing with other kittens, like Mighty Mint who is pictured on page 42. We are just the cutest, funniest, most precious little guys ever. We love our lives in pairs so call 910-599-2755 to come meet us soon! ♥
◄I’m Phoenix, a grateful young adult girl who was rescued from the street as I was giving birth to four adorable kittens. My life was saved weeks later when I was rushed to the hospital with acute mastitis and sepsis. Slowly recovering, I have turned out to be a sweet, affectionate cat, who, to everyone’s surprise, is very playful! I love to bat my toys around and chase them down the hall. I get along well with other cats and love to hang out near my humans. My personality will shine in my new home! To meet me, please call or text CAT at 910-599-2755. ♥
▲We are Bastet and Ra, an 11-month-old brother and sister duo who would love to be adopted together. We are friendly, outgoing, and loveable. HELP!!! It's Kitten Season!
Each year too many unwanted kittens are born outside in the rain and cruelty of their surroundings, and each year Friends of Felines (FOF) volunteers and caregivers are out in force trying to prevent these unwanted births through a managed trap/neuter/vaccinate and return program. For years, FOF has teamed up with local adoption groups to try to get these young feral kittens out of colonies and into foster care, but there are just not enough homes for everyone.
Please support us on our mission to reduce unwanted births so no kitten has to survive outside, dodging cars and wondering where its next meal is coming from.

Aloha! I’m Dee, a super loveable, 60-pound, 10-year-old Boxer mix. Yes, I’m an older girl, but there are benefits that come with adopting me. First, I’m housetrained, leash-trained, crate-trained and know basic commands. I take correction well and have zero destructive behaviors. Secondly, my temperament is fully developed! What you see is what you get, and what you’ll get is an extremely sweet girl with a laid-back, friendly, eager-to-please personality. Thirdly, I’ll be so happy to hang out and/or play with you! Whether it’s a walk in the park, a few rounds of fetch in the fenced yard, or relaxing on the couch and watching TV, I’ll find a way to keep us engaged. Fourth, I know what loyalty and companionship is all about because I was once loved and cared for by my human. He passed away over a year ago, but he taught me how to be a great companion. I would do well in a laid-back or active home, just as long as there are doggy toys. I should have been a social media influencer for a dog toy company! ORANGE ROUGHY & DADDY BATTS
The volunteers call me "Roughy" and I am a gorgeous boy. My fur is long and orange and my eyes are beautiful. I’m a little shy around new people, but give me a chance, it will be well worth it to have a sweet kitty like me. I’m a kind soul, I’m 1-year-old and I just want to make you happy. Snuggled up behind me is Daddy Batts and he is the sweetest big boy ever. He is a Maine Coon mix who was attacked by a coyote. He almost lost his front leg, but he’s now all healed up and back to normal. We are the best of buds and would love to be adopted together.
PERCH
I am a BEAUTIFUL Russian Blue mix boy with an adorable white spot on my neck. I just LOVE other cats, so I would be best with a FURR buddy or perhaps a kitty you already have? My fur is super soft and I'm a little pudgy, so needless to say, I like to eat! Come rub my belly and spend some time with me. Pleeeease?
DONATE: Covering medical costs, pet supplies and food are every day expenses for FURR. We accept monetary and non-monetary donations which are tax-deductible to the extent of the law!
BUDDY
I was living under a Topsail Beach pier. I was scared and surviving on hardly any food. A nice man was really concerned for me and called FURR to come save me. I am a beautiful, healthy boy and I can purrrr to beat the band. All I need now is a permanent home with lots of love! Please consider adding me to your home. I will be SO grateful!
SHELLS
I’m a sweet, petite kitten girl who would love to be part of your family! My dilute Tortoiseshell coloring is so beautiful and accents my golden eyes. FURR rescued me from a horrible place and I express my eternal gratitude by purring up a storm whenever I am petted and loved on. I get along splendidly with all the other FURR kitties and am only about 20-weeks-old, spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Could I please be your future family member?
VOLUNTEER: There are lots of ways to help our cause, from raising awareness about spaying/neutering, to helping with fundraisers or simply volunteering time to care for the kitties!
BATTLET TEENS
We’re like dogs in feline bodies. We’re freakin' adorable black kitties who are extremely friendly because we have been handled since birth by our rescue. We’re funny and playful little ones (two boys, one girl) who will keep you entertained for hours. Once play time is over, it’s cuddle time and boy, do we love to cuddle. All of our vet work is included with our adoption fees! Don't wait too long because we’re eager to love you.

SAWYER
I am just a "beautimous" kitty! I am only a couple of years old, and so handsome that I should be on a calendar. I am a very sweet but shy kitty and I love other cats! I've been fixed, vaccinated, blood tested, and given a clean bill of health. That means I'm ready to go home with you today. I need a little more socialization, but I know you can help me with that. I'm waiting for my new person.

Hi there, my name is Arya and I’m a spunky Yellow Lab mix girl who was born in December 2020. Look at how I’m sitting on command for my photo, I’m quite pretty, don’t you think? I am already spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. I walk well on a leash and I love spending time in the play yard. I get along fine with other dogs and would do well in a home with another one to be buddies with. So if you already have a dog, please bring him or her out to the shelter to meet me! You can find me at Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR) and if you have questions, call my friends at 910-457-6340.
I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.
My name is Lily and I’m a 3-year-old Calico! I was surrendered by my elderly mommy. She was very sad because her health had taken a turn and she could no longer properly care for me. Columbus Humane Society made her a promise to make sure I was adopted into a loving home. I’m heartbroken she’s not in my life any longer but I’m a welladjusted, friendly adult cat who gets along with other cats. I’m eating well, using the litter box, and scratching in the right places. I am curious, sweet and always up for some pets and play! Do you have space for a loving companion like me? If you’d like to meet me, contact Janet with Columbus Humane Society at 910-499-1194 and leave a message or call Laura at 224-805-2825. ◄My name is Annie and I’m a 5-year-old mixed breed girl. I weigh 57 pounds, I am heartworm negative and I’m spayed and vaccinated. I am moderately active but would like a fenced in yard with regular neighborhood walks. I really love people and will roll over to get belly rubs. I can be picky about my dog friends so I would do best in a home with no other animals. If you are an experienced big dog parent, I would love to meet you. ♥
►I’m Abel, a 10-year-old Chihuahua who weighs 14 pounds. I love with my whole heart and I love all other dogs. I have a heart murmur and I take a daily maintenance drug to stay healthy. I would like a home with a woman who likes to snuggle. I am nervous with men but get used to them with time. Once I settle in with you, I promise to be loyal and stay by your side. ♥
►Hiya, I’m Barney and I’m an 8 to 10-year-old boy who weighs 30 pounds.
I’m Basset Hound and Wire-Haired Terrier mix. I am heartworm negative, vaccinated and neutered. I am deaf and have poor vision but my heart is fully capable of showering you with love. I’m really sweet and I get along with all other dogs but will sometimes bump into them. I am ready to spend my days wandering around your home. I do get used to my surroundings and get confortable very quickly. ♥
►Chico is my name. Loving and playing are my game. I’m a Manchester Terrier mix who is 2-year-old. I weigh 10 adorable pounds and am heartworm negative. I like to play with other dogs and I like all the attention during laptime. I have lots of energy and would like a yard to play in and long walks are fun, too. ♥

Hi, my name is Mango (although my foster mom calls me The Bestest Boy, Buddy, or Sweet Boy). I am about 1 to 2-years-old. I was dumped in a neighborhood by some not so nice people and left to fend for myself. My foster says I am a big boy with large ears and a little chubby tummy. I love to play and wrestle! I am running and playing with my foster siblings all the time so I would love another younger kitty to play with. I also spend my downtime watching the birds and squirrels outside the window. It’s like a real life Youtube channel! I have really bonded with my foster family so it may take some time to adjust to a new home. Once I feel safe and comfortable with you, I will want to be involved with your daily life! I am affectionate and love to give hugs, I will crawl into your lap to cuddle, and I insist on accompanying you to the bathroom. And I think the best water is the water out of a running tap...it is so delicious! I may play a little rough for young children so maybe a home with no children or older children would be best. I’m vaccinated, neutered, dewormed and on flea prevention. Please give me a chance to show you my true self! For more info or to inquire about adopting me, email Kitty Pawtrol at kittypawtrol@yahoo.com, call 812-598-0130 or visit our website at www.kittypawtrol.org.

Hi there, my name is Eden (A458388). I’m not sure how I got my name but maybe it’s because living with me would be paradise! You see, the shelter staff have nothing but good things to say about me: At 1½-years-old, I’m a spayed Pit Bull mix girl who is very sweet and friendly. I’m quiet but active and enjoy playing with all types of dog toys. I have a happy-go-lucky personality and I’ve been very easy-going with the volunteers. I take treats so gently with my mouth, too! If you have another dog in the family, please bring him or her over to meet me! I’m at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit, and adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. ◄My name is Grace and I am a Malamute, Husky, Gray Wolf (17%), and German Shepherd mix. I am estimated to be around 3-years-old, and I am big (weighing close to 90 pounds), so the family who wants me should have plenty of space. I need a family who is experienced with Malamutes and Wolfdogs. I am vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, crate-trained, leashtrained, house-trained, and heartworm negative. I love my swimming pool and I love to play fetch but my favorite thing is riding in the car! I will need to be your only pet as I’m not good with cats or dogs. I do love kids of ALL ages. My home must have a 6-foot, securely fenced-in yard, as I will jump over anything smaller. I am a very affectionate gal and would love to run around and cuddle with you on the couch. Due to hybrid laws, I am not able to live in certain counties, so Roseys Rescue will have to look into your county laws before you adopt me. ♥
►▼Hi, Chaco here, pictured on the right. I want to tell you a little about me and my brother, Wolfie. We are 4-years-old and we are Husky/Lab/Shepherd mixes. I’m the gorgeous copper colored one and Wolfie looks like a Husky with his black and cream colored markings. We are neutered and
vaccinated and have microchips. My brother and I do everything together. We go potty together, we eat together and we sleep together. We don't mind being in a crate but we are mature enough to not tear things up like puppies do so you don’t need to crate us. Whoever wants to adopt us has to accept us both. I can't live without my best pal.
Why don't you come and meet us? ♥
►BOOP! My name is Hope and I am a sweet girl who loves to give hugs. I was a hunting dog before I came to rescue and I still get a little excited when I hear hunters nearby. I have an amazing voice and I love to hear myselfespecially when I want to eat. I know my name and I always go to my foster mom when she calls me. I'm pretty good walking on a leash, I don't tear things up but I do like to drag my blankies out of my bed and lay on them. Running and playing with other dogs are my absolute favorite. I need someone to make me a part of their family. I'm already spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and about 2-years-old. I'm a Treeing Walker Hound and I’d love to be your gal. ♥

Where Are They Now?

would consider the duo. She sent a few photos, including those taken at the photo shoot, and before too long she was dropping the youngsters off for a trial period at the Gordon household. The main criteria for the potential new house members was that they get along with Shafer, the Gordon’s beloved senior Great Dane. Says Christine, “Our cat of 17 years - Shafer’s friend - had passed away. He loved cats and was lonely. He was so happy when he first saw the kittens. They were a little shy at first, but not worried or upset.”
It was the early days of the covid epidemic, but Donna Bloomer, a foster mom for Adopt-An-Angel, had a bonded kitten duo in need of a home, so she jumped at the opportunity to have their photos taken for the May 2020 issue of PawPrints Magazine.
With medical masks firmly in place, she and photographer Michael Cline Spencer found a willing participant in Juice, the girl, who sat easily for the camera. Aspen, the boy, took a little more coaxing, but he eventually relented and struck several handsome poses. “I was definitely committed to finding a great home for them together,” recalls Donna.
Around this same time, Donna was put in touch with Christine Gordon who, along with husband Jeff, was looking for a new addition to the family. Christine had seen Juice online and was interested in meeting her, so Donna asked if they
With that important introduction completed successfully, the cats were soon invited to stay permanently. Juice was renamed after Violet Denison, a family friend of Jeff’s mother, known as Aunt Denny. “She loved cats,” says Christine. “The name honors her memory.”
The cats keep the family thoroughly charmed and entertained. “They make us laugh every day!” says Christine. “From running down the hall and skidding under the furniture, to playing in boxes. The first week, Aspen was walking on the bed and threw his head to my face when I opened my eyes. Denny would always sleep right next to Shafer.”
Shafer passed away in the summer of 2022 and, since then, the couple has noticed a definite change in Aspen’s demeanor. Says Christine, “He has taken on the personality of a dog since Shafer passed. He follows you from room to room, speaks when spoken to and wants to be part of our activities.”
Christine recommends adopting cats in pairs. “Pairs are bonded. They get along well and keep each other company. These two are awesome and bring us much happiness. We adore them!”
Love Connection
Due to the covid shutdown in 2020, Juice, left, and Aspen, right, were featured in an unprinted, digital-only edition.
“They put a smile on our face every day,” says adoptive dad Jeff Gordon of Aspen and Denny.
Juice, now Denny, enjoyed time spent with Great Dane Shafer (above) while Aspen looks lovingly at adoptive mom Christine (below).

See what I did there, I am wearing a sombrero! But seriously, hey y’all, my name is Harold (A138586) and I’m a 12-year-old Black Lab and Beagle mix who sure would love to meet you! I like to snuggle and I know how to make a mean margarita. If you are ready for a fiesta followed by a siesta then I may be just the boy for you! I am neutered, gentle, calm and sweet. Please head
the shelter and get to know me! ♥
◄Hi there! My name is Pete (A137290) and I’m just 4-months-old right now, but my shelter friends say I am an Alaskan Husky and Boxer mix so it’s expected I will grow up to be big and strong. Like all young pups, I would benefit from basic training so I can be a confident boy and it also helps me bond with my new family! I’m a total sweetheart who is already neutered and ready to join you on the ride home. Won’t you please come meet me at the shelter today? ♥
►Have you ever seen such a perfectly beautiful Black Lab Retriever like me? I’m Leo (A138439) and when I’m not stunning everyone with my good looks, I’m being a very sweet, friendly fellow who eagerly awaits companionship! At 1-year-old, I’m looking for a nice family who will teach me the ways of the world. Could that be you? ♥

I’m a Golden Retriever mix girl (A467360) who was found walking the streets with another doggie friend. The shelter staff is quite surprised that no one has come looking for us because we’re so sweet!
My friend was
just adopted and I’m waiting patiently to go home, too. At just 3-years-old, I’m already spayed and I love to play. I enjoy all types of dog toys and I’m very food-motivated. I absolutely adore the peanut butter treats they put in my Kong. If you already have another dog, please bring him or her to the shelter for a meet and greet. I’d like to meet you, too! I’m at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit and adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. Hi, I’m Emmy, a 5-year-old pocket Boxer. I’ve been at my new foster home for a week now. My last foster home found out I like to chase the animals on their farm, so I had to move to another cool place. Don’t worry, I didn’t harm them, I just wanted to play. This new foster home is full of dogs, a little boy, and a foster mom and dad. I love exploring their large fenced in yard. I’ve been working on commands and leash-training. I love learning - it’s like a game! I love to play ball, too. I’m considering trying out for a doggie basketball team because I’ve got an awesome vertical jump! I’m not always active and I like to sit up in my kennel. I do like to be lazy and watch TV with my humans. I’ve met 2 of the 3 dogs here. The first one is laid-back and we hit it off. The second one, well, she’s old and set in her ways. I antagonized her in her kennel and tried to get her to come out and play. Foster Mom allowed us to meet finally. I did the proper dog introduction, had a tense moment or 5, and then we became friends. I try my best with the old dog and make her act young again. I enjoy getting the dogs to run around the backyard with me. For more info or to adopt me, email Carolina Boxer Rescue at carolinaboxer@gmail.com, call 910-799-5638, or visit www.carolinaboxerrescue.org.

▲►Hello, I am Telly (pictured top left) and these are my brothers, Trebek, Tundra and Twitch. We are all very much alike: we are all 4-month-old boys, we all look the same, we’re all very friendly, we all like to play, and we’re all very handsome - if we do say so ourselves! Another way we’re all alike is that we all want to be adopted soon! ♥
►We are Holland and Harris. We are 3-month-old brothers who came here from Columbus County. All of our friends said we wouldn’t get adopted so we should just stay home. They said we were just Tabbies and nothing fancy or special! But we aren’t discouraged because we know we’re especially friendly and have been practicing all that cute kitten stuff just so someone will love us! Come meet us – you’ll see! ♥
►I’m 10-weeks-old now and I’ve been in my foster home since I was 3-weeks-old. My siblings could barely crawl but when my foster mom put me on the floor, I just took off across the room. She said I was the first one in the family to find my running shoes. Those beautiful high-top white running shoes have even given me my name. When you come to meet me, ask for Hightop and just see if you can catch me! ♥
◄Not everyone wants a rambunctious little kitten so I’m ready to go. My name is Lily and I’m already vaccinated and spayed and just 9-months-old. My bags are packed, my paperwork is in order, I’m up to date on everything so all I need is a new home. I was adopted for a while until I had to come back because of allergies, but I really miss having a home and a loving family. ♥
◄My name is Pascal (pictured top left). I’m 3-months-old and I need to be rescued ASAP! My brother, Pepper, is no problem but I need to get away from my sisters, Patsy and Prudence They are definitely a problem. They are both Calicos and you know what Calicos are like – all attitude! Sure they are cute, but Pepper is good looking and I’m gorgeous with my long, light gray hair and my perfect eyeliner. Wait, does it sound like I’m the one with the attitude!? ♥

Hello, my name is Mumford and I am a big hunk of love!
I am a handsome 6-year-old fella who is looking to find my forever home! I am super-friendly, a great snuggler, and all around a happy boy! I know ‘sit’ and ‘paw’, I walk well on a leash, and I love to play. I’d love a forever family who wants to have fun every day, take me on adventures, and go for car rides together. I think I am a small, petite dog at 74 pounds, so if you have children, I would prefer them to be older since I can be described as a Bull in a China Shop when I play. I have so much love to give and hope my forever family is out there. The kennel environment is stressful, and I’d enjoy showering my forever family with kisses of appreciation every day. So, if you are up to being my bestie, then come on out to Paws Place and let’s see if we’re a match! The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm; no appointment is necessary. You can also call 910-845-7297 or email info@pawsplace.org for adoption information.
I am sponsored by Tony and Peggy Durso. Thank you!
Hi, my name is Max and I just celebrated my 1st Birthday! I’m a sweet baby who wants to be a Lap Dog. I love to swim in the lake and play with my toys. I like any toy that squeaks or has stuffing. I’m an indoor dog but love to go outside and play. I know how to sit on command and I like to play fetch. I’m good with kids, up to date on all shots (including bordetella) crate-trained, house-trained and neutered. I don’t like cats or other small animals but would be good with other dogs my size (65 pounds). Could I be your best friend? That way when we are out and about town and you introduce me, you could say, “This is my best friend, Max.” I’d like that! To learn more about me and the adoption process, call Janet with Columbus Humane Society at 910-499-1194 and leave a message. You can also email jhinson6@ec.rr.com or visit Friends of Columbus Humane Society on Facebook and send a message.

◄Little dog alert! My name is Caramel! I am a 9-year-old, 10 pound Chihuahua. I am a little dude and a typical Chihuahua. I am house-trained, completely vetted, and pretty smart. I need a home without small kids or cats, but do fine with dogs. I can be nervous at first so I need a patient, quiet home. For more information, please give Sherry a call at 910-523-1254 or Jill at 910-620-3783 or you can come meet me on Saturdays at PetPeople Store on Oleander Drive from 11:30am to 3:30pm. ♥
◄Hello, my name is Sandy. I am 2-years-old, up to date on vaccinations, spayed and heartworm negative. My Beagle nose works perfectly. I am about 35 pounds of pure joy. I have a little energy so I may be too much for a cat, small kids, or elderly people. If you have a dog, a meet and greet is required. Feel free to come out and meet me at Pet People Store in Wilmington on Saturdays from 11am to 4pm or you may call Sherry at 910-523-1254 or Jill at 910-620-3783 for more information. ♥
►BUFF TABBY
ALERT! My name is Loki. I am a 2-year-old super friendly guy. I do well with kids and cats, but I’m not sure how I feel about dogs yet. I am super affectionate, but may take a few days to settle into my new home and new routine. My owner moved away and left me behind and that would take anyone some time to get over. Call Jill at 910-620-3783 for more info or come meet me at Petsense in Leland. ♥
►Just wait until you see my pretty pale green eyes in person! My name is Corbin and I am a true cuddlebug. Everyone who meets me says that I am very sweet and loving. I was a stray at the animal shelter and Adopt-AnANGEL thought they could find me a home if I only had more exposure. So, they took me into their program. I seem to do well with kids and other cats, but I have not been exposed to a dog yet. Come meet me at Petsense at 100 Shallotte Crossing Parkway in Shallotte or call Sherry at 910-523-1254 to adopt me. ♥
►My name is Fish! I am a wonderful young dog who is about 3-years of age. I am a 50 pound Pit Bull mix and I need someone familiar with my breed. I do great with dogs, kids and everyone I meet. I am house-trained, I’ve had some obediencetraining and I am learning good manners from my foster mom. You should see her walk me with five other dogs at the same time. She says I am a real character. I recently went to a fundraiser at a local brewery and I stole the show! Everyone loved me and I loved everyone. If you would like to meet and adopt me, please call Sam at 910-443-7507. ♥
◄I'm a loving and loyal companion with a sprinkle of “catitude.” I love treats and having my head scratched. My hobby is swishing my tail. I was a wonderful mother cat and now that my kittens have been adopted, I'm ready for a wonderful home of my own. My name is Maria and I have shiny, soft, black fur. Please come out and meet me at Pet Supermarket (3908 Oleander Drive in Wilmington) or call Jill at 910-620-3783 for more info. ♥

My name is Minion. I got my name because my people thought there was something wrong with my eye, but the doggy doctor said it was ok. I was surviving on my own, went to a shelter and my peeps at Freedom Bridge Animal Rescue came and got me. I'm pretty skinny and my doggy doctor is making sure I don't have anything wrong with me ’cause I love to eat, but am still keeping my really slim figure. So far, they say everything looks good and I have since put on a little weight. I'm an Ibezan Hound and I am supposed to be skinny, but maybe not as much as I am? I'm about 5-months-old, I’ve had all my doggy shots, I got microchipped and I’ve been neutered. Everyone tells me I'm a sweet boy but a little sassy. I LOVE having another fur brother or sister and really like to hang out and play with them. Wood panels around a bunch of grass (I think humans call it a fence) is super important to me. If you have kids, they should be older because I do like to nibble on their little fingers. I can't help it because they’re always into something and they're so tasty. I hope you see my picture and want to give me a chance. I'll be waiting! If you’d like to meet me, please call Freedom Bridge Animal Rescue NC at 843-614-0231 or send an email to freedombridgeanimalrescuenc@gmail.com.

Hi there! I’m an All-American cutie pie named Teddy, just 7-months-old and 34 pounds. I was previously adopted, but I came back to the shelter because my former owner’s chickens looked mighty good to me. So my new home should be poultry-free and, just to play it safe, cat-free too. But if you have a dog, please bring him or her out to the shelter to meet me! I am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Like all young pups, I’ll benefit greatly from basic obedience training. It would not only give me confidence, it would be a great bonding opportunity for me and my new family. I am very eager to find my true forever home and I’ll shower my people with a lifetime of love. Come meet me at the New Hanover Humane Society! We’re open Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm. You can also call 910-763-6692 with any questions.

Now, how about that laser pointer? ♥
◄I’m Sterling, a 1½-year-old Russian Blue mix boy. At 15 pounds, I’m a handsome guy who was surrendered by my owner through no fault of my own. Right now I'm a little overwhelmed by this turn of events. The nice folks here are letting me settle in at my own pace, and I’m already warming up to the shelter staff and purring when they pet me. I am neutered, vaccinated, litterbox-trained and on flea preventative. A loving, forever family is exactly what I need. Could yours be the one? ♥
◄I’m a Bengal girl named Senshi and I’m looking for a loving home where I can be the only fur-baby. I am a very unique and beautiful kitty. Pictures don’t do me any justice! I’m Cooper and I’m looking for a very special forever home filled with patience and kind voices. I’m a 6-year-old boy who just loves attention, but I am easily startled and I communicate by making what sounds like low growls. I need a family with no children or other pets and one that understands how best to work with me. You see, I don’t like negative corrections or raised voices, and I don’t like high-stress situations. I do respond to positive reinforcement. For example, if you want me to drop something, offer me one of my toys rather than uttering a stern “no.” I love walks and I am very good on the leash but car rides are my favorite! I love the humans in my foster home and I can be very affectionate. I will hop up on the sofa next to you, roll over and “love talk” for a belly rub. I know how to sit and come when called and I love my toys. I am very smart and I have adjusted well to my foster family’s various schedules. I am fully housetrained, vaccinated, neutered and at a healthy weight. I love Granny Smith apples and green beans as snacks. Please don’t let my quirks discourage you from giving me a chance. I will make a great companion for the right family. To adopt me, please call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 888-909-2387 or visit www.cbhr.com.

That is TRIPLE the amount of surgeries in the exact same size building. Did you know that over 30 animal shelters and rescues (as far as 2 hours away) also use their services?
Fix A Friend is enclosing part of their porch and moving the lobby. The existing lobby will become more kennel space. They are adding in more dog runs, more stainless steel cages, and stainless steel shelving to stack feral cats. This will add 200 square feet to the size of the building, but kennels will be built up and customers will move outside to the covered porch for check in/out. Working smarter, not harder! This will cost $25,000 for the addition and an extra $25,000 to add all the dog runs, stainless steel cages and shelving - making the total budget $50,000.
To help Adopt-An-ANGEL defray this cost, please mail checks to Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. You may also donate online at www.adoptanangel.net (include note: Clinic Expansion). Euthanasia in local animal shelters is down across the board since 2012 and Adopt-AnANGEL’s Fix A Friend is proud to be able to take some of the credit by reducing animal overpopulation through aggressive spaying and neutering action.
The staff at Fix A Friend needs a pat on the back if you are out their way (6033 Ocean Highway East, Winnabow, NC 28479). They work very hard and sometimes put in 14-hour days fixing over 100 animals.

I’m a Hound named Harper (A466882) and I hope you’ll come visit me soon! My friends say I’m quite a catch and will be a perfect companion. At just 3-years-old, I’m a spayed girl with a sweet, happy-go-lucky personality. I enjoy playing with my toys and can be quite silly with them, tossing them in the air and having lots of fun. If you have another dog at home, please bring him or her to the shelter so we can meet! I’m at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit in Wilmington. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For more information, call 910-798-7500.
I am sponsored by Fuzzy Peach (Monkey Junction).

Calling all Husky lovers!
I’m Aspen (A466460), a 1-year-old girl with a striking feature: my eyes are different colors! (One is brown and one is iceblue). So far, I’ve been a quiet but active pup who enjoys playing with toys and being with the volunteers. I have a sweet personality, I walk well on a leash, and I’m very gentle with my mouth when taking treats. Like all young pups, basic training would be beneficial and help me bond with my new family! Come meet me at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit in Wilmington. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For more information, call 910-798-7500. See you soon!
I am sponsored by Christy Lee. Thank you!

►My name is Comet and I’m a male Leopard Gecko who is around 3½-years-old. I am a little on the shy side but I’m ready to explore when I’m out. I have a great appetite and I’m ready for my forever home. ♥
►My name is Viri and I’m a super tiny, baby Chinese Water Dragon. Since arriving at Fresh Start, I’m either hiding behind the plants or up on the wires to my light. I haven’t been brave enough to sit out on my hammock or take food from tongs. I do eat well out of a bowl and I like to go for a swim. ♥
◄I’m Pecan and I was brought to Fresh Start by a good Samaritan who found me left behind in a rental home. I need a little help with handling and my age is unknown. I’m eating frozen/ thawed mice and have plenty of growing left to do. I’m believed to be male. ♥
►Hello! My name is Dr. Hiss and I’m an unsexed Ball Python. I am super shy, even for a Ball Python but I love my food and have been eating well on frozen/thawed medium rats. I came to Fresh Start after being surrendered to a county animal shelter. ♥
◄My name is Nada and I was left behind in a rental home and then surrendered to Fresh Start by the landlord. That means I came in with no history, unfortunately. I am unsexed and my age is unknown. I am large enough to eat frozen/ thawed small rats. ♥
►Hi, my name is Geico and I’m a beautiful female day Gecko who is 2-years-old. I have been well cared for and I love to show off my pretty colors. I do not, however, love when you open my enclosure so I'll run and hide. I'm not a Gecko you would normally handle, nor do I want to be handled. ♥
▲My name is Pippin and I came to Fresh Start with a pretty severe respiratory infection and previous bad care. I am well now and turned out to be a very sweet Bearded Dragon. I eat great but I don’t like other beardies so I would prefer to be your only one. My age is unknown but my previous owner had me about 2-years. ♥
►I’m Orion and I came to Fresh Start with no history or background information. I was abandoned in a home along with some other animals. I am not sexed, I’m a little shy but handle well, and I’m happily eating frozen/thawed small rats. ♥
