Homeless Cover Model I may be a Valentine Girl with my red tutu and pearls, but I'm also representing President’s Day! You see, I’m one of the “Presidential Pups” enrolled in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program through Monty’s Home. My name is Monroe and I’m a 1-year-old Redbone Hound. Along with four other dogs (Madison, Kennedy, Reagan and Ike), I will finish my training and be ready for a forever home at the end of this month. I am also celebrating our huge Pet Expo event on the 23rd of this month! The Pet Expo is Monty’s Home’s biggest fundraiser and they need vendors, volunteers, auction items and, most of all, you to attend! Please see the ad on page 24. You can meet me and my fellow pups on Saturday, February 8, at our Animal Lovers Thrift Shop at 401 Hwy 117 S in Burgaw. We’ll be there from 11am to 1pm, but come anytime between 10am to 5pm on Thursday, Friday or Saturday to shop! Volunteers are needed there as well. Be a luv and help out! Visit our website at Hey there, I’m a beautiful, friendly and playful Shepherd mix girl named Henley! I weigh just 35 pounds and am likely at my full size, since I’m 1½years-old. I appear to be house-trained and am spayed and vaccinated. I tested positive for heartworms but, never fear, I am on a slow-kill regimen to address the issue and will soon be heartworm free! Please come to the New Hanover Humane Society and meet me! You can call my friends at 910-763-6692 with any questions, or just come on out and let’s get to know one another in the yard. I’ll be waiting to cuddle and play! I am sponsored in loving memory of Levi D. Forever number 1.

Do you like redheads? Well, here I am! My name is Ludwig and I’m a sweet young fella, orange in color, who was found by a good Samaritan after I was hit by a car. My broken leg is completely healed but I still have an eye defect from the accident. It doesn’t stop me from playing and having lots of fun, though! I am very loving and friendly Photo by Michael Cline Photography and I’m ready to make your family complete! Please call my friends at 910-256-2624 or email for more information or to submit an application for my adoption. I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

For more information about Azalea Dog Training Club, please visit: Or call: My name is Patsy and I am looking for my forever home! I am an easygoing, happy girl. I love to play and my favorite toy is the laser pointer. My hobbies include: sitting on the window sill and watching birds and people go by, following my human into the bathroom, waiting for someone to pet me, scratching on a scratching post and waiting for more treats. I am laid-back, happy to lay next to someone on their bed or lay by their feet. I love, love, love to be petted. I’m not that fond of being picked up - I find it terrifying. Chicken-flavored Temptations are the best treats. I will be a great friend in a calm household with people who love and respect me (preferably an only pet). I might like to have a buddy but have not had much interaction with furry friends yet. I can be a little shy at first but I always warm up! For info on me or to inquire about the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or visit I am sponsored in honor of all the wonderful foster mommies & daddies who care for homeless animals.

910-392-2040 An “EASY” dog that’s what my friends at the shelter call me! Take a look at my photo and you’ll see one reason why. I follow commands like a champ and sit for treats! I also get an A+ in housetraining and leashwalking. My name is Niya and I’m a 3-year-old Pit mix girl who has been patiently waiting for a family since February 2019 one year ago! I can’t understand why I’ve been overlooked and it’s making me so sad. I have such a friendly personality and so much love to give. I’m just a delight! I’m also in great health. A wonderful girl like me shouldn’t be living in a shelter month after month. I hope you’re one of those people who recognize a gem when you see one! Please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and ask them any questions. Better yet, stop in and meet me! I am sponsored by the Furry Friends Re-sale Shop in honor and memory of all the animals who've passed through the doors of Pender Humane Society.

Hi, my name is Jenga (19-44) and I’m a 1-year-old female Silver Marten. I weigh 6.5 pounds and have already been spayed. I have a mind of my own and it is evident, even in the shelter environment. I am often seen chinning, exploring, head bumping, and presenting for petting. I have also been seen binkying, headshaking, playing with toys. I may tail flag or thump occasionally if I see someone or something I dislike. I enjoy a great deal of attention, want a permanent home and I’m not shy in making demands known. To know more information about me, please send an email to, call us at 910-686-9171 or visit us online at

Under the supervision of Monty’s Home volunteers, my inmate trainers are teaching me basic commands as well as walking nicely on a leash. I am spayed, microchipped, crate-trained, vaccinated, and will come home with some toys, food, and my crate! I’m looking forward to living happily ever after in a forever home. If you think you could be my happy ending, call 703-864-5754, email or fill out an application online at Like us on Facebook at

Are you looking to rescue an awesome dog? Sign up here! My name is Spot. I have a heart full of love with a zest for life and I’d love to show you what fun we can have together. Who wants to be my playmate? It’s no fun playing all alone! My name is Church and I’m a loveable boy, a total sweetheart, and I’d be great in a home with other dogs and children. Like all youngsters, I enjoy playing with all kinds of toys and I sure do love getting attention from my human friends. Kisses and cuddles are awesome! I am neutered, vaccinated and very healthy. If you’d like to meet me, please call PEAR at 910-512-8522 or send an email to and let’s arrange a play time!

Hi, my name is Keke and I am 7-years-old and 13 pounds with a calm, loving and affectionate personality. I had an infection from a broken tooth, which had to be removed, and I am feeling much better now. Folks say I have been the perfect patient, quiet and agreeable to everything. I have been spayed, I am up to date on vaccinations and I have a microchip so I am ready for my new home. If you are interested in adopting me or learning more about me, please call Sharon at 910-617-3760.

My name is Misty. At a couple of months old, I was found as a stray along with my littermates. I’m a sweet Tabby girl who will require a little patience while I warm up to a new home. Once I am comfy, I am a little purr machine. I am playful and love to jump at string toys and follow laser pointers. I like to spend time looking out windows. I also like to lay with you so I may want to sleep with you. I get along well with cats but have never met a dog. I would do best in a quiet home. I’ve had all my vet care and am microchipped. To adopt me, call 910-200-0612 or email

My name is Stormy and I have been with Jaded Paws Rescue for a long time now as I came in with a rough past. My dream home includes no other animals, as I like to be the dominant one, and preferably no small children as they tend to make me a little nervous. I do fine with older, respectful kids. I’m an older dog who likes to be able to do my own thing. I love to go on walks and I’m crate-trained. I am spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and heartworm negative. For more information, or to request an application, please email Jaded Paws Rescue at or call 910-389-2372. You may also visit us online at

I’m a sweet kitty boy named Django and, as you can see, I’m great with kids and enjoy being held! I arrived at the rescue with severely broken legs but, after undergoing surgery, I am completely healed and ready to go home with my new family! I am 6-years-old, neutered, vaccinated and Feline Leukemia/FIV negative. I like everyone and I’m very loving. I enjoy children, I’m friendly to other cats and I’m pretty indifferent with dogs. I will rub and purr on you all day long, if you let me! To adopt me, call 910-256-2624 or email or and ask for Heather.

THUNDERING PAWS PET ADOPTION I am Zoey, an 8-month-old spayed and vaccinated female. I am a brown Tabby with some cinnamon swirl markings on my back. I am a loving, affectionate and very sweet kitty. I was adopted as a kitten but sadly returned last month because my parents could not take care of me. I have a very easy-going nature and get along with children, other cats and dogs. I’m looking for a forever family who will love me! To adopt, please email, call 910-224-6068 or visit

ROSEYS RESCUE I'm Jersey, an 8-month-old Rottweiler and Pit Bull mix who is vaccinated and spayed. I get along with other dogs, but my foster mom says I am too curious about cats. I have never hurt one, but I do like to tease them. I love to run around the backyard and wrestle with the other big dogs, so I do need a fully fenced yard. I don't rarely go potty in the house and I’m crate-trained. I love all humans, big and small. But I am a big puppy and might accidentally knock over a small human. I like to sleep in bed with all my other dogs, and I don't like to be by myself. I really love playing with the water hose, too! If you want to know more about me, email, check out my posts on Facebook at ‘Roseys Rescues’ or text 910-547-0998.

My name is Nora and I'm 14-years-old. Yes, I am an older girl, but I have much more love left to give. Just ask my foster parents. They say I am good as gold and fit as a fiddle! I am a good all-around mature gal and get around just fine. I have good energy levels and my personality is shining through. I like people, other dogs, and am good in my crate. I will even use a doggie door! These days I am happy, healthy and like attention just like my dog roommates. If you are looking for an older lady with some pep in her step, I just might be your gal. To meet me, please call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 888-909-2387 or visit I am sponsored in loving memory of KC, Babe, Grace, Beauty, Frodo, Sassy, Max, Twinkle, Casper, Coach, Flower, Nell, Duffy, Melody, Whisper, and Raspberry.

Hi there, my name is Tarheel! I’m one of the teenagers at Cat Adoption Team, just 10-months-old. Everyone tells me I’m so handsome with my silky gray stripes, long white whiskers and adorable face! I am a sweet and gentle boy and I’m quite the biscuit maker as well. I just love to knead on anything and will get my purr machine rolling at the same time. I get along fine with other cats and people, and I even lived in a foster home with an old dog. How can you resist me? Please come and say hello at Petsmart on New Centre Drive in Wilmington. Adoption hours are 5pm to 7pm on weekdays, 1pm to 5pm on Saturday and 1pm to 4pm on Sunday. You can also call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 for more information. You won’t regret it! I am sponsored by ECM Corporation. Thank you!

SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us! ◄Ahoy! I’m Skipper and they think I am a Shar Pei / Collie mix. Well, they may not be sure about my lineage but they DO know I’m a supersweet boy! I turned 3-years-old and am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention! All I need now is a yard to run and play in and a family to love me furever and ever! I’ll be the best friend you’ve been searching for. ◄Bonjour! I'm Lovie, and yes, the name fits! I don't always like to be picked up and held, but I love to cuddle and roll around while you pet me. I will even let you rub my belly! My vet visits have all gone well and I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations and litterboxtrained. I didn't bring a lot with me when I came to SOAR, so I can be packed and ready to go quickly! ◄Hi, I’m Rambo!! And as you can tell, all the ladies at SOAR are in love with me and can’t stop giving me kisses! And though I love them, too - I really want my one and only to love for the rest of my life! I’m a 2-year-old boy who is neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Now all I need in my life is you!

◄My name is Moose but don't let the name fool ya! I'm as sweet as they come! At about 6-years-old, I’m neutered, litterbox-trained and up to date on vaccines. I eat a special food because of a slight intestinal condition - but it’s nothing major. Oh, you might want to pick up a laser pointer while you are at it because I LUV playing with those crazy red lights! Oh, one more thing, I like to be the alpha cat among other kitties. Please give me the gift of a home this Valentine’s Day! ►I’m Jasmine, a very beautiful grey Tabby girl with a striking coat and I’m as sweet as can be! At 7-months-old, I’m a friendly and playful darling who gets along well with other felines. I love hanging out with people and giving them lots of love and affection. If you come to SOAR, you’ll find that I’m ready to be petted and given lots of attention. I’ll be a life-long, loving companion made just for you! ◄Hello - my name is Velma - yes, like the girl on Scooby Doo! I'm a pretty and purring Siamese mix little girl, about 5-years-old. I'm supersweet once I get to know you - it just takes me a little longer than most to get comfortable in new surroundings. I'm spayed, litterbox-trained, vaccinated and I'm making a Valentine wish that you will come meet me and fall in love and take me home to love you forever!

Cat Tails Please call 910-253-1375 to adopt us! ◄My name is Glenda. I’m a beautiful Calico girl who’s almost 2-years-old. My last family dumped me in a feral colony and I was very scared. Then I was trapped and that scared me even more. And then I came to Cat Tails! Now, I’m not scared anymore but there is one more thing that I want to happen…I want a family to love who will keep me forever. ►I’m a really nice cat. My name is Elroy and everyone loves me. I haven’t been adopted because many people find my eyes off-putting. I have scaring on my corneas that makes one of my eyes look white and the other look half-white. I can still see, though. I’m only 2-years-old and I’m a medium-haired tuxedo. I’m snuggly, playful and could be the cat of your dreams. ◄My name is Rhett and I’m a great-looking, gray and white 18-month-old boy who is ready for a home. The problem is that I don’t really like people all the time. Sometimes, I love to be petted and sometimes I wish people would just leave me alone. Also, I’m a very big boy. I don’t know my weight, but I tower over my friends. So, if you’re looking for a big, somewhat friendly boy, come see me.

▲Both of these pictures are me. Can you believe it? Same little, scrawny body. Same huge, round eyes. I’m Otis and I’m 1½-years-old but still look like a kitten. I’m sweet and playful and I get along with all the other cats here. I may be just what everyone is looking for: a kitten who will stay a kitten. ◄My name is Wilma and I’m the cat you’ve been dreaming about. Were you thinking orange, black or white? Doesn’t matter, I’ve got all three because I’m a Calico. Do you want splotches, stripes or spots? Again, I have all three. It’s hard to find one cat who can please everyone, but I can do it! I’m only 10-months-old so I have years and years to make everyone happy! ►Love Calicos? My name is Penny. I was only a couple of weeks old when a police officer found me on the side of Highway 17. Luckily, he brought me here to Cat Tails and they sent me to a foster home where I got healthy and learned to play. Now, I’m 6-months-old, absolutely beautiful and ready to go to my forever home.

Hi, I’m River! I’m a 53 pound, 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix boy, already neutered and vaccinated and doing very well with my housetraining. I love to play and am eager to please and crave attention. I’m looking for a devoted family who will welcome me into their home and give me all the love I deserve! Call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 to adopt me. Sponsored in loving memory of Roxy.

My name is Roosevelt and I’m a large white boy with light green eyes. I’m a glossy big fellow with a chirpy meow. I will flop beside you and wait for a belly rub. I live with my big brother, Snowflake. He has gorgeous ice blue eyes. We are almost identical in stature and looks. We were rescued as young strays in Onslow County and are about 18-months-old now. We are very bonded and often intertwine our tails. We love treats and that is a surefire way to get our undivided attention! Our hearts are full of love to give you! And what’s not to love, we’re purrfect. We would love to be the kings of your cat castle. We’re FeLV/FIV negative, neutered and vaccinated. We haven't been around a dog, but might be okay if introduced carefully. It will probably feel like a Tyrannosaurus Rex walking in the room so we might be a little intimidated initially. Please be smart, grab your smart phone and call our foster mom at 910-619-7028 to adopt a couple of bros.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Voted BEST LATE NIGHT EATERY in Wilmington Since 2005

My name is Taco Mia. I know, it's a funny name, but I am a funny girl! I am a 1½-year-old Carolina Dog mix, and I am up to date on all my vaccines, spayed, wormed and microchipped. I get along with lots of other dogs, but I don't like cats too much at all. I love to run, and my foster mom says she thinks I am part Whippet! I have to have a completely fenced in yard. I have lots of energy and am a busy girl, so I would like it if there was another dog or 2 who wanted to play with me. I never potty in the house, and will go out the doggy door or will let you know when I have to go out. I don't mind going in the crate, but I don't like to sleep in one all night long. I want to be with my family! Mom says I pull on the leash, so I could probably use some extra training on that. I love all humans, but mostly I like ladies. I am afraid of some men, not all, but some. I would make an excellent running partner, and love to go on walks or hikes. If you want to know more about me, contact Roseys Rescue at, check out my posts on Facebook at ’Roseys Rescues’ or text 910-547-0998.

My name is Pebbles and I’m a bobtailed girl with long luxurious tuxedo fur. I’m sweet and very playful. I am shy at first but really I don't like to be alone. Give me a few days and I will blossom into a wonderful companion for you. I do great with cats, older kids and dogs are ok, too. My owners surrendered me and my two siblings to an overcrowded shelter when they couldn't care for us anymore. Luckily, AdoptAn-ANGEL was able to bring us into their program. Come meet me at Petsense in Leland or call my foster mom, Jackie, at 910-523-9719. I’m Tally, the sweetest Beagle girl you will ever meet! I am 6-years young, spayed, housetrained, crate-trained, and I LOVE other dogs and meeting new people. I am around 17 pounds, which makes it easy for me to go with you around town if you like! My mom passed away recently and I really want to find my new home. I have a noncontagious skin condition that can make me itchy requiring daily management through medication and periodic medicated baths. It’s not life threatening and not contagious to other people or animals. I just want a family to call my own! If you are interested in being my forever family or would like to know more about me, please send RescueConnect an email at or grab a phone and call 910-302-7290. I am sponsored by Atlas and Bonnie Mayew. Thank you!

Breed Rescues We are all from different Breed Rescues. Please read our stories! RUSSELL RESCUE INC. - CAROLINAS

My name is Dash, and I'm about 10-years-old. I am vaccinated, neutered, tested negative for heartworms and received a dental. I love long walks and all-night cuddles (sleeping under covers as close to you as possible is nonnegotiable!). I would prefer to stay home during the day with a canine friend or a human who is retired or works from home. Are you ready for your "rest of forever" Jack Russell? Pick Me! To adopt me, email, call 910-821-3504 to leave a message, or visit

I'm Marble, a 4-year-old male Great Dane who came into rescue when my previous owners moved and left me tied to a tree. I love car rides, day care, a fluffy couch, and some good ear rubs. My world centers around stuffed Kongs and squeaky toys. I will do best in a home with either no kids or kids over the age of 15. I have some mild peripheral blindness so fast moving little ones tend to startle me. To adopt me, email for an adoption application. Check out some of our other Great Danes at or call 704-584-9257 for info.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE My name is Maggie! I am a young lady (about 4-years-old) with a joyful energy! I am friendly, good with adults, house-trained, leash-trained, love to ride in the car, and know how to use a doggy door. I am best suited for a home with older kids (12+) because I can get a little too playful. I am not sure that I like to be part of a pack so the best house for me does not have any other four-legged family members. My foster mom is working with me on my house manners. She says that I am a smart girl and catch on quickly. I really love my people and I like to snuggle and cuddle with them as much as they will let me. To meet me, call 888-909-2387 or visit

I’m Liberty. I’m a smart girl and a quick learner but I still prefer to “flop” instead of “sit” and “follow to make sure you’re ok, and not having fun without me” instead of “stay.” I’m working on my cratetraining but I like it better if I can go with you. I’m such a polite girl out and about so why not tag along? I like to pretend that I’m really attached to my foster mom but whenever I meet a new person, I’m quick to climb in their lap for cuddles. My foster family says I’m the BEST EVER on a leash and I walk well off leash, too. P.S. If you snore and need someone to blame it on, I’ll have your back! CAROLINA BOXER RESCUE I’m Sophie, a super sweet dog who loves people. I’m cratetrained, but very well behaved so I don’t need to be crated. I don’t jump up or counter surf, and know basic commands like "sit". Most of all, I love cuddling and I’m pretty much a perfect companion! I am timid in new situations because it’s likely that I was left on my own a lot in my previous life. Because of this, I can be dominant with other dogs and would be best to be the “queen bee” in your house. I love getting attention and rubs, and I’m looking for my forever home. Could it be you? To adopt me, call 910-799-5638, email, or visit

I was once for sale at a meat market in China! Thankfully, committed rescuers purchased me and my puppy from a butcher just before we would have been killed. I’m Jove, a 10 pound, 2-year-old Mini-Schnauzer/ Maltese mix girl who is simply a precious sweetheart. I’m leashtrained, fully vetted and mostly potty-trained. I’ve been groomed since this photo was taken and am waiting for a loving family and a wonderful home. To adopt, visit, send an email to or call 919-723-7145 for an adoption application.

I am Princess Mew-Mew aka Sweetie. I am shy at first, but I blossom into a total sweetheart with a little time. I hum when I am nervous, and chirp when I am relaxed. I love to be groomed and cuddling makes me happy, too. I live with dogs and cats in my foster home and would prefer to not live with A LOT of animals, if I can help it. I am a dainty little Tabby who has been overlooked quite some time. Please call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-6203783 if you would like to meet me. For info on me or to inquire about the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or visit My name is Sekani and I’m a German Shepherd mix who is less than 1-year-old. I am always happy, and love to play. I love kids, and cats, ducks, chickens, etc. I love to walk on a leash, and go for long walks. I am very smart and a quick learner. I was surrendered because my owner was not able to afford a couple of surgeries needed after a car wreck that broke my hip. I am still recovering but can run faster than my other foster siblings. If you have lots of love to give, please call Columbus Humane Society at 910-234-1681 or email You can also visit us online at Hi, my name is Maddox. I am a beautiful boy who is looking for a furever home where I can have a job or an active yet patient human to give me the time and training I need. I can run for hours and then happily snuggle next to you on the couch when you're done. I’m a 1½ to 2-year-old ‘good ole country boy’ who is believed to be a mix of Cattle dog, Collie, and maybe a little something else? I am up to date on my vaccinations and flea/HW preventatives. I’m already neutered and weigh just shy of 60 pounds. I would do best in a home with a sister or as an only pup and no cats, please. For more information, send an email to or call 252-414-9219. Search WagonTailsFarm on Facebook and be sure to like our page.

Pender Humane Society Please call 910-259-7022 to adopt us! ◄I’m a very happy Hound boy named Marshall! My fur is chocolate and cream and I’m just 5-years-old. I’m looking for a wonderful family to love me, and also a fenced-in yard to run and play. I’m neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Come over so we can get acquainted! ►If your household feels lonely and you’re searching for love, I’m the boy for you! Visit me and I’ll walk up to you, purring, rubbing myself against you, even drooling a little from the attention you give me. My name is Tank, and I was once part of a family for many years. Changes in the household, however, is what brought me to the shelter. I’m an 8-year-old neutered boy who is vaccinated and litterboxtrained. I currently weigh 22 pounds and need to lose some weight, but I’m sure I can do it. I’ll be too busy lounging in your lap to have time to eat, anyway! ◄How did an awesome companion like me end up back at the shelter? Unfortunately, a family member became allergic to cats, so now I’m waiting for a new family to discover what a loveable gem I am. My name is Chloe and I’m an affectionate, friendly girl. I always welcome soft rubs on my head and back, and I LOVE scratches under my chin. I am spayed, vaccinated and litter box-trained. If you already have another cat at home, you’re in luck because I get along fine with kitties!

◄FAMILY DOG ALERT! I’m super-friendly and love everyone I meet! My name is Leo and I can’t wait to slide right on into home life with you. I walk well on a leash, I know how to sit on command and I love attention from people. At 2-yearsold, I’m a Lab/Walker Hound mix and I’m simply a great dog who is in great health. Let’s go! ◄My name is Camille and I’m a 1½-year-old pastel Tortie. I’m as pretty as a fine work of art with my stunning coat and green eyes! I was found abandoned with five little kittens, but now I’m spayed and ready to be YOUR baby. I’m a very sweet girl who welcomes attention from humans as well as back rubs! I’m also vaccinated, litterbox-trained and I’d love a quiet home to call my own. Please stop by and meet me!

◄▲We’re a sisterly trio, simply adorable, and we can’t wait to purr and cuddle in the arms of our new families! I’m Hazel, the black and white girl. I’m very playful and have a great time chasing after toys. My sister Autumn is very outgoing and adventurous with a love for exploring. Amber is the mellow one who likes quiet time and cuddles. We are all 5-monthsold, spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We’d prefer a home with no dogs, but other cats are fine. You’ll find us in the playroom, so hurry over! February 2020 19

Look no further if you want a handsome Shepherd / Aussie mix - I’m definitely your fella! My name is Bobbles, and my life has been a bit confusing lately as my owner had to give me up due to unforeseen reasons. Even though I’m showered with hugs and kisses at Paw’s Place, I’d sure love to get back into a nice, comfy home and claim a couch again. I’m 6-years-old, I have an outgoing personality and, believe it or not, I like the feline critters, too! Please come see me, share some walk time and give me some belly rubs. Need directions or have questions? Call Paws Place at 910-845-7297. I will be looking for you! I am sponsored in loving memory of Grace Harrington.

I’m Prince Charming, an awesome Maine Coon mix who is sure to steal your heart. I will rub on you and purr all day long. I like to play, jump and climb, but I'm also a great lap companion. I am pretty indifferent about dogs and I like children, but I’ll need to warm up to any new feline family (no surprise, right?) I came here with a broken leg but it was surgically repaired. I am 4-years-old, healthy, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and ready to go home with you! Please send an email to or call 910-256-2624 if you are interested in learning more or adopting me. I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

Onslow County Animal Services Call 910-937-1164 or 910-455-0182 or email to adopt! ►I’m a sweet senior boy named Rocky (43469353) and I’m a loving Labrador mix. I was given up by my previous owner (through no fault of my own) after owning me since I was a pup. I am an active and playful pup who loves toys – I carry them around with me wherever I go. I enjoy going to doggy daycare, I’m house-trained and I love children. I love to give hugs, love everyone I meet and do well with cats, too. Much like many of the dogs in our area, I was never provided with heartworm preventative and am now heartworm positive. Sadly, 25% of the dogs in the southeast are in the same boat. I need to find an adopter who will be willing to take me in and pay for my treatment. I am a special boy in search of a special family. Please come see me at the shelter 12 to 5pm Tuesday thru Friday and 10 to 3:30pm on Saturday. No appointment necessary.

◄I’m a sweet Hound named Xavier (43477350) and it’s thought that I’ve spent most of my 5-years of life as an outside dog. I’m hoping to find someone who can show me what it’s like to be a house dog. I’m a good boy who loves attention and being around people. I need a family who will be patient with me as I learn the rules of the house and discover new things (like vacuums and ceiling fans and garbage cans). When I came to the shelter, I arrived as an emaciated and sick pup, and have already come so far. I would love a home with a big, fenced backyard where I can follow my nose and nap in the sun - with an understanding family who will give me the time I need to feel safe as part of a family. ►Meow. My name is Chili (43627040) and I’m a 1-year-old who is the biggest lovebug! If you are looking for a cat who enjoys affection and attention, I am your boy! My brother, Pepper, and I are currently available for adoption at Onslow County Animal Service. ◄I’m Jasper (43475690), a 1-yearold, happy-go-lucky, wiggly and playful boy. I am still not much more than a puppy and still full of puppy energy. I do well meeting other dogs and would be a great addition to any family. Because I am a Pitbull mix, I am having a difficult time finding a family. With many breed restrictions in place, it can be harder to place us bully breed friends. I’m a fun and most deserving pup. My friends here at the shelter hope that I will find my perfect human and my happily ever after.

Jonesy is my name, and chewing bones is my game. I live with two fur brothers and let me say, I love having buddies to play with all day. A few of my favorite things are zoomies in the yard, taking rides in the car, and cuddling real hard. I am sometimes a little shy, but give me some time and I’ll be your guy. A fourlegged sibling will help boost my confidence, since I get a little scared with new experiences. If you’re in the adopting mood, then give Merit a call and tell them you want me furever, dude. For info on our adoption process, application, and fees, email, visit, or give Merit Pit Bull Foundation a call at 336-618-PITT. I am sponsored by Robyn Davis in loving memory of Duncan. I am a beautiful, brilliant, sweet and cuddly girl who is searching for my perfect home. My name is Josie and I’m spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, housetrained and cratetrained. I know basic commands and love to learn and train. I have come a long way on loose leash walking but still need work on that. I am an almost 2-year-old Labrador mix who is about 58 pounds and loves people, children and cuddling up to give and get lots of love. I am capable and fond of jumping my foster home’s 6-foot fence which is not a safe situation for me. I am known as an opportunistic runner and therefore cannot continue in my service dog training. My perfect home would be someone with experience with a young, energetic Lab, and a desire to continue my training (which is one of my favorite things to do)! I need a safe place to run my energy off and be a dog (an unescapable fence or wide-open land with no proximity to roads). I think I would excel at Frisbee or agility, as I am so smart and love being busy. I get along with other dogs but would probably be better in a home without cats. Please call 910-506-3647 or email if you’d like more info. An adoption application can be found at I am sponsored by Kelly & Diane in loving memory of Dr. Emma Jane Lackey.

R.A.C.E. (Rescue Animals Community Effort) To adopt one of us, please call 910-579-0407. ◄Hi!! My name is Alfred. I am 12-years-old and only weigh 15 pounds. Maybe I should’ve said that I am 12-years young because I have so much love to give. I am a Maltese and Pekingese mix. I like hanging out with my dog friends and I love people. I am very calm and I’m patiently waiting for someone’s lap to call my own. I hope you have a loving heart to share with me. Call today to start the adoption process!

►I am baby Aldo. I am 6-weeks-old now and will be ready soon for my new family. Mom was a Feist mix and weighs 25 pounds but I don’t know who my dad was. The vet thinks I will be around 40 pounds when grown. I like other dogs and even like cats, too. ►My name is Cocoa and I came from a local shelter. I’m 10-years-old and weigh 15 pounds. I am a heartworm negative Lhasa Apso mix. I’m a quiet girl, I like other dogs and I like to hang out with my people. I am ready to be your forever family member and best friend.

►Am I cute or what? My name is Columbo and I am a 1-year-old Rat Terrier mix. I weigh around 12 pounds and I’m heartworm negative. I just love people and I like playing with my doggy friends. I am not quite housetrained yet but I’m really smart and working hard on it. ◄I’m too handsome for my own good! My name is Maverick and I am only 10months-old. I like other dogs and I am lots of fun.

►Hello! My name is Cutie Pie and I’m a 13 year-old Poodle mix. I only weigh 8 cuddly pounds. I am blind but I get used to my surroundings really fast. I am heartworm negative. I came from a cruelty case but feel very safe now. I would like a quiet home and someone to snuggle with. ◄Hi, I’m PJ. I am a 4-month-old tuxedo kitten. I like other cats and I am comfortable with big dogs. I would like to come live with you and be your snuggle buddy. I am completely vetted, neutered and microchipped.

◄My name is Sushi and I am a special needs pup. I weigh 8 pounds, I like other dogs, and I’m just 1-year-old. I was in an accident when I was young and never received care for it, so I don’t have use of my back legs. The good people here said they can teach you how to empty my bladder for me. I’m really excited because I will be fitted for a cart soon and will be able to get around better and go on walks.

Hello Humans, my name is Willow, aka Nugs! I got my nickname ‘cause people keep saying I am “the cutest nugget ever”! I tend to agree with this assessment so I decided this name is acceptable. You might recognize me! I have been with Merit Pit Bull Foundation for a year now and more importantly, I was the cover model for PawPrints Magazine back in January 2019. I definitely have good looks but I am also a lot of fun and very smart. My foster mom plays a lot of games with me and I like that ‘cause I usually win and get all the treats! I LOVE treats of all kinds so feel free to tempt me with a cookie and ask me to do something silly - I will happily comply. Same goes for quiet time. I like to chill with some Bravo TV and a good chewy. I especially like it when my foster mom adds some cream cheese or some peanut butter for a special treat. When I am done with my chewy and ready for bed, “Nugs likes to snugs”! Who doesn’t like a good massage before night-night time? Be ready for some kisses because I like giving kisses - nice big wet ones! I just love people so much! My foster mom is cool and all but I really want some humans of my very own! I would consider a fur brother but I have a hard time sharing with girls. I am a VIP after all! Have you started filling out an adoption application? I mean, what could you possibly be waiting for!? For info on our adoption process, application, and fees, email, visit, or give Merit Pit Bull Foundation a call at 336-618-PITT.

I am a 1-year-old Alaskan Husky mix boy who loves adventure. I would also love a family who feels the same way I do about exploring and going for long walks. My adoption fee includes a physical examination, neuter surgery, heartworm test and rabies vaccination. Hurry out to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services and introduce yourself. Got questions? Call 910-754-8204.

Adopt-An-ANGEL Please call 910-392-0557 to adopt us! ◄My name is Fonzie and I am a total goofball. I am good with other dogs, and older kids. I am housetrained and walk well on a leash. I will need a fenced in yard to run a little energy off since I am still young and playful. It would be great if my adopter was familiar with Hounds since we can be escape artists who follow our noses. I haven't done that yet, but I could so don't leave me unattended in a fenced in yard too long. Did I mention I am an absolute sucker for food? I love it! Please come meet me at Petco on weekends or call my foster mom, Jill, at 910-620-3783.

►Five Facts about me, Frankie: ♥ I am a BIG boy with an unusual curled tail and a mellow disposition. ♥ I am homeless because the family's new baby was VERY allergic to me. ♥ I would like a quieter home without dogs, but I have lived with another cat in the past. ♥ I am an easy houseguest, and need a place to stay for the holidays and beyond. ♥ I would be grateful if you'd share my story with friends who might be looking for a fabulous new fur-family member! Please call or text my foster mom, Donna, at 910-508-5518 to find out more about me!

I am a rare orange and white tuxedo who is a girl. Most of the time we are boys. I do well with cats, older kids and can even tolerate dogs. I am affectionate and ever so sweet. I am a young female probably no older than 2-years. Please come meet me at Pet Supermarket in Wilmington.

►My friends call me Niki! I am a poor girl who came in from a county shelter. I was missing all the fur on the bottom half of my body due to neglect. It’s not often you see cats in such poor shape. I have spent 3-months in foster care healing my body and my soul. See how I have blossomed into the prettiest most unique little thing? I am a Tabby with an ever so slight gold tint. That’s because my inner beauty is shining through. I am great with cats, dogs, kids and ever so grateful for any and all attention. All I want is to be loved and taken care of like I should have always been. If you would like to meet me, please call my foster mom, Jill, at 910620-3783. Did I mention that I am a total lap cat?

◄My name is Victor and I was surrendered to a shelter because a small child was tormenting me. I am very affectionate and playful but I would prefer a home without small children. Can you blame me? I am quiet and undemanding when you want me to be. I have lived with other cats and don't mind the dogs in the pet store. You can meet me at Petsense in Wilmington. I am a black cat and we tend to sit homeless longer than any other homeless animals. Please come get me quick so I don't languish homeless for long and get all depressed.

P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408

◄Russian Blue Alert! My name is Nina and I am a sweet, laid back, affectionate cat. Can you believe I am a Russian Blue feline who is getting overlooked? How can that be? I am totally shocked. As you can see, I am a pretty girl looking for someone to come and love me. Will that be you? You can find me at Petsense in Wilmington.

Looking at me you would never know that I had a rough start living outside with feral cats. But here I am, a sweet, loving and gentle fellow, just patiently awaiting my forever home. ◄My name is Tofu and I’m the sweetest kitten there ever was! At 9-months-old, I’m a darling girl with soft white fur, black spots and the cutest pink nose. I like to follow my people around the house and cuddle. You’ll be amazed at how gorgeous and sweet I am! ◄Hey there! My name is Nellie (A119548) and I am a 1-year-old girl who has surely made an impression on the shelter staff. I came in with wee little babies who I loved and nurtured until it was time for them to be adopted. Then I was spayed and I’m now on track to living a life of luxury. I am looking for a family who would be willing to give me endless snacks and lots of love. Could you be looking for a princess like me?

►Hello! My name is Hobbs (A119815) and I am so excited to share with you that I am officially available for adoption! My shelter friends simply swoon over me and they know that you will, too. Hurry over to meet me!

New Hanover Humane Society Please call 910-763-6692 to adopt us! ◄I’m a house-trained, friendly and playful boy named Gibson! At just 1 to 2-years-old, I’m a 50 pound Pit mix who is neutered, vaccinated and ready to go home! I’m learning basic commands and I get along well with other dogs. My energy level might be better suited for dogs my size or larger rather than small pets or kids. Are you a loveable, active person or family who could help me reach my full potential? Come out and meet me!

▲I’m a sweetheart named Sam who gets along well with children and other cats! My owner died so I’m bewildered by the sudden change in my life, but I’m settling in. It would be so nice, though, to find myself as part of a family again. I’m a handsome, loveable boy - litterbox trained, neutered and vaccinated. I’m just 5-years-old, too!

Open 10am-2pm Mon-Sat

◄Looking for a wonderful family friend? My name is Sally and I’m a housetrained cutie, just 1-yearold and a mere 30 pounds! Isn’t that a great size? I am very friendly and I love to play. They tell me I’m a Hound/Terrier mix who is spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I hope you’ll drive over and spend some time with me. We could be the perfect match! ►I’m a darling little girl named Briar who is just 1-yearold! I’m new to life here at the shelter, but I’m settling in, getting relaxed and enjoying gentle pets and attention from the volunteers. I have a black shiny coat and beautiful green eyes. You must come see my beauty in person! I’m also litterbox-trained, spayed and vaccinated. Please consider adopting me, I’m so sweet!

►Hi, I’m River, a 53 pound, 2-year-old Lab mix boy, already neutered and vaccinated and doing very well with house-training! I was previously living under poor conditions and was severely underweight. But I’ve picked up quite a few pounds and am looking so handsome with my shiny black coat. I love to play and am eager to please and crave attention. I’m looking for a family who will welcome me into their home and give me the love I deserve!

◄I’m a Torbie named KiKi! (A Torbie is a Tortoiseshell with some Tabby mixed in.) When you come visit me, you’ll see I’m a friendly and personable girl, very entertaining and playful as I stalk and bat toy mice around. I’d be a fine companion for children and am spayed, vaccinated and litterboxtrained. I’m just a bit cross-eyed and am helped with lubricating eye drops. It’s easypeasy. I’d love to be your new best friend!

Hello there, PawPrints readers! I’m Buster and I recently celebrated my very first birthday! I made a wish on my birthday cake candle that I would find my forever family soon. I’m a Lab/Boxer mix boy who is already neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Eating and playing are at the top of my priority list and, of course, so is giving lots of puppy kisses to wonderful humans just like you. I’ll be the best, most affectionate companion! Won’t you come out to the shelter and meet me? I’m at Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR) and their number is 910-457-6340 if you have any questions. I’ll be waiting with lots of Valentine cuddles and kisses! I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge. My name is Rogan and I was brought to CARE by a good Samaritan who wanted to help me. I am very sweet, I love to lay outside in the sun, and I will never turn down a treat! I am 7years-old and was diagnosed with Scabies, Heartworm Disease, and numerous skin tumors when I first arrived at CARE. I’ve since been treated for all my ailments and I’m ready for a new home! The masses were surgically removed, and though some were cancerous, they were completely excised. I am a particular fella who needs time to adjust to most dogs, but I don’t particularly care for cats. I am good with kids and just want a comfy place to lay my head and rest. If you would like to meet me, please call 910-256-2624 or email I know I’d love to meet you! I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

All 4 Cats Call or text 910-707-4372 or email to meet us! ►Hey, I'm Ninja or Ninji-poo as my foster calls me. I used to live outside my foster's home. I gave her the run around while she tried to catch me to make sure I got all my shots and was healthy. It took a good 3-months to catch me as I am a crafty kitty (a ninja you may say). I quickly realized that people are ok and living inside as a pet was the life for me. I am about 7-months-old but am a small kitty due to my past life outside. I am ready to find my forever home. I may come off a bit shy but I warm up quickly. I love head bunks and pets. I wag my tail because I am happy to see you. I love other cats but am a bit scared of dogs. I also like to "ninja" my way into the chimney for a nap. Can I come home with you? ◄My name is Bandit. Are you looking for a new best friend? Look no further. I do not know why I keep getting looked over at events because I love everybody, that includes young children. In fact, one came to visit me at my foster home and I thought she was the coolest. We head bonked and played follow the leader. Cuddles and attention are my middle names. At 10-months-old, I just count the days ‘til I get a home and person of my very own. I enjoy other kitty companions, I am FIV/FeLV negative so I’m all set to find that forever home I am looking for. You will never have a dull time with me. ►My name is Cranberry. Do you have other pets but are looking to add another furry family member to the mix? I'm a beautiful 10-month-old Maine Coon mix who gets along with everyone. Being part Maine Coon does mean I am on the larger size of cats but that just means more of me to love. I will even steal the string toys with feathers on them to get my foster siblings to play with me. I enjoy all kinds of toys but can be a lap cat on my own terms. If you sit down and relax on the couch I will be happy to join you. I tend to get overlooked at events because I am on the shy side but at home, I will keep you entertained.

►I’m Lemonade. As much as I love my foster home, I long for a person of my own. I am terrified of all children and dogs. My foster thinks I was abused by kids at one point. At around 3 or 4-years-old, I have seen a lot and raised a sweet son who is my twin and my best friend (Orange Juice, pictured below). I have a couple pellets stuck under my skin from being shot but they don't bother me. I love playing with a stick or string toys. Do you like when a cat tongue bloops? Good, because I do it often. I enjoy music and curling up next to you getting pets. I prefer men over women but can warm up to the perfect person easily. I am FIV/FeLV negative and up to date on everything. Do you have a space for me in your heart? ►Pet me! Pet me! Pet me! I'm Orange Juice and even though I come off shy at events, I really love attention and my foster parent says I have the biggest purr. I will lick your face while you hold me. I love my mom (Lemonade) and could possibly adjust to a new cat friend. I do not care for dogs, though. My loves can come from anyone, even small kids. As long as it is attention, I am all for it. I am FIV/FeLV negative and about 10-monthsold. I am a big boy, I have all my shots and I am fixed. Do you need an Orange lover bug in your life? Pick Me! ◄Do you have a home on the quiet side and want to add a little love in your life? My name is Maytag and I’m 2½-years-old but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good toy or some catnip. I get along with my other foster kitties. I may come off a bit shy but I would love to play with you. My foster is always telling me what a beautiful girl I am but I don't let it go to my head. I am an easy-going girl who just wants to find a perfect someone. I am FIV/FeLV negative. I do not need a ton of attention but I will always be there to have a conversation with you. So if you enjoy a good game night and meaningful conversations, I am your girl.

My name is Darby. I am a handsome 7-month-old teenage boy who came to Adopt-An-ANGEL from New Hanover Animal Services in September. I was badly injured. I had a broken femur that has required 3-months of surgeries, follow up

visits, x-rays and crate rest. See my x-ray? I had pins, screws and plates installed at Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral. The total cost was over $1600. I was only 4-months old and basically lost my kittenhood. I have finally received clearance from the vet and I have made a FULL RECOVERY! I am a wonderful kitty with a ton of energy now that I am free from pain and can actually RUN! I would do best in an active home with someone who has a sense of humor. I need a forever family and pray that I won’t be overlooked because I am black and no longer a small kitten. I have certainly paid my homeless dues. I am great with other cats and kids, too. I have not lived with a dog, but probably could. If you can’t adopt, please consider donating in my honor to help pay my bill so that there is money for the next injured animal who comes in. If you would like to meet me, please call Jill at 910-620-3783 and she will put you in contact with my foster mom. You can donate online at For more information on the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. My name is Luna Skye and I’m a 1½-year-old, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped beautiful kitty cat with stunning sky blue eyes. I am part Siamese and brown Tabby with white and have a long tabby tail. I am a fast runner, high jumper and excellent laser point athlete! I was abandoned by my owners along with my 2 kittens in a duplex before being rescued by Thundering Paws. I am a little shy until I get to know you. I am scared of big male cats who chase me but I get along with females my size or non-aggressive males. My dream home is one with adults where I am the only diva. I love being petted and will chirp meow for attention when I want to be loved. I am very independent and tolerate being held on my terms. I am FeLV, FIV and heartworm negative. If you will give me a chance and be my loving forever family, please send an email to Thundering Paws at, call 910-224-6068 or visit I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in memory of all of those who have loved and lost a fur baby.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you! I’m a GREAT family dog just looking for a family! Housetrained, healthy and lots of fun, I’ll be a super companion. My name is Oakley and I’m a 1-year-old Brindle Shepherd mix. I was adopted a few months ago, but my owner couldn’t take care of me any longer so I’m back at the shelter and ready to go home with you! I’m a sweet, loving boy with an energetic and playful attitude. I am up to date on all my shots, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. I got along well with the other dogs in my former home and I’d love a house with a fenced-yard so that I can play. Please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’d like to meet me or just come on out and say hello! I’ll be waiting. Hello, my name is Veronica and I’m a 6½-year-old girl who weighs 6 pounds. I was rescued from a hoarding situation and am very shy. I need to learn to trust people again. I love to be brushed, love to play with dangly toys, and am good with other cats. I have allergies, which are easily controlled with daily medication. I am looking for a family who lives in a fairly quiet home and who will be patient with me as I overcome my shyness. As you can see, I am a real beauty! Can she be your valentine? If you would like more information about adopting me or another cat we may have, contact Carolina Animal Protection Society at, email or call us at 910-455-9682. Please check us out on Facebook, too! We will be participating in the National Adoption Day event on February 29th at the Petsmart on Yopp Road in Jacksonville. Come see us! I am sponsored by Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar in Carolina Beach and in loving memory of Bess. Hey there – If you are looking to change your lifestyle in the New Year, then pick me – Genesis! I’m a single, athletic, playful gal looking for a guy (or family) who can keep up with my active lifestyle. I’m into running, the outdoors, playing and being part of a loving group. I can keep up with the best of them and I enjoy getting my daily exercise. Oh, and I am just as comfortable with belly rubs and affection. I’m super-smart and ready to find my forever family and play-buddies. Don’t you want to come and meet me? I’ll be here at Paws Place ready to greet you with eager wags! Paws Place Send inquiries for adoption to or call 910-845-7297. ◄Hi there! I’m Chris, and I’m in the market for a forever home. I’m an active, sweet boy, and I love to play! I’m looking for a fun, active family and someone who can take me on walks and really let this Hound nose do its job. And boy, oh boy, would I enjoy a fenced-in backyard so that I can lounge out and soak in the sun! I think I might even like another dog to play with! If you’re looking for a playful pal to add to your family, look no further!! I’ll be waiting for your visit. ◄I’m a super-easy senior named Katie who is doing a second time around here at Paw’s Place. You see, my adopter got sick and couldn’t look after me, so here I am again. But I am so hopeful that my next family will be my forever one. As you can see, as an (almost) 10-year-old lady, I still have lots of spark and play left in me to share. Did I tell you that walks would be great for me, too? I have lots and lots of kisses and tail wags to give – will it be YOU that I share them with? I would be grateful to get another chance at a happy life. Won’t you come visit me and see if we could be a happy match?

◄Looking for a sweet, affectionate, quiet love bug? Well, you found her! I’m Tillie, a 9-month-old, 22 pound cutie who is new to Paw’s Place. Even though I’m trying to figure out my new friends here, I’m really hoping that I get to meet my new ‘human friends’, too. And since I am a Terrier/Cairn mix, I’m the best of two worlds! What could be better than double sweetness? I will be using one of my great features of being attentive when you come visit me! ►My family was facing some hard times and that is how I find myself here at Paws Place. Being that I'm looking for a new family, I should tell you a little about myself! I’m Birdie and, though we don't know for sure, some think I resemble a Bernese Mountain Dog. I am 4-yearsold and I weigh 60 pounds. I'm very sociable with people as well as dogs. I'm being caught up on vaccinations and I was just spayed, so my child-bearing years are OVER! If you think we might be a match, come on out for a visit!

◄Hi, I’m Nina! I’m a very sweet, loveable, 5-year-old Pit Bull. I’m a big girl with a big heart, and I’m looking for someone to love. I like to go on walks, and I’m great on a leash. I try not to pull too hard, and I also know not to jump on people! I like to play with dogs my own size and I’m not particularly fond of cats or small animals. If you’re in the market for a big, goofy, loveable girl to share life with, look no further and come out for a visit with me!

◄I think I got the name Polo because I like to explore – you know, like Marco Polo! Anyway, I’m a typical Hound boy with my nose to the ground. I love going on walks and getting to sniff all those fascinating smells out there. I can be vocal when I’m in my kennel, but that’s only because I want to come and give you some love. I’m a cuddler, just 38 pounds. What do you say, are you looking for a love bug?!? That could definitely be me!
