About I’m currently the Editor-in-Chief of The Free Press, the University of Southern Maine’s weekly student newspaper. Last summer I worked at Maine magazine and Maine Home+Design as a full-time, paid editorial intern. I’ll be graduating from USM in May with a degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship and small businesses.
Experience Editor-in-Chief, The Free Press — January 2011-present Managing a diverse staff of six editors and at least ten writers on the editorial side as well as the advertising staff. Writing features, hard news and letters from the editor. Proofreading all printed and online content and providing feedback to editors and writers. Managing website, Twitter and Facebook page. Planning any short or long-term changes to the paper. Interviewing and training all new hires. Editorial Intern, Maine magazine and Maine+Home+Design — June-August 2011 Assisted the editorial departments at both magazines. Proofread, fact checked and conducted preliminary research for stories. Earned several bylines from short copy including event recaps and book reviews as well as promotional copy for web and print. Helped manage five Facebook accounts and the Maine magazine Twitter account. Freelance Reporter — January 2010-present Written for several publications including the Bangor Daily News and the Portland Daily Sun. News Editor, The Free Press — January-December 2010 Wrote, reported and edited for the News section, including budget, student government and feature stories, often under short time constraints. Managed staff of reporters and set deadlines for staff. Generated long and short-term story ideas every week. Designed News section, including front page, using Adobe InDesign. Took photos when needed. Interviewed a variety of people including university administrators and political leaders. Reporter, The Free Press — September 2009-December 2010 Reported and wrote hard news articles and features and covered university sports including basketball, soccer and baseball.
