What you will learn and receive through the HeartWork process HeartWork 1 Introduction to some basic principles of HeartWork Objective: To distinguish between a “normality” that is deadeningly repetitive and to understand and experience some building blocks of a new normality that is open, free, and the result of God’s grace at work in you. You will be able to explore: • a way to become more present to yourself • what gets in the way of inner freedom • a method of opening up space in your thinking in order to create more options for yourself • a guide to prayer meant to help you grow in self-acceptance

HeartWork 2 Be who you are Objective: To become more aware of the nuances of one’s emotional reaction to persons, situations, and events in order to discern how and where God is moving in one’s life You will be able to explore: • your awareness or non-awareness of your feelings • how your feelings are signs of whether your needs are or are not being met • an exercise for exploring, understanding, and deepening your awareness of your experience • a guide to prayer meant to help you grow in the courage to be with your experience as it is. Optional: Personal appointment with Sr. Kathryn Hermes, using the HeartWork methods learned thus far. These appointments are meant to offer one-on-one support in applying the HeartWork methods one has learned in order to work through and integrate a specific situation in your life. HeartWork 3 Drawn into the sphere of God’s glory Objective: Using the principles taught in HeartWork 1 and 2 to experience the possibility of embracing the fabric of your life and finding in the deepest level of the ground of your being God’s glory. You will be able to explore: • what makes it so easy to miss the point of the Christian life, which is to become Christ • the structure of the developmental, psychological, and spiritual elements that make up our lived faith-experience as adults and which can deaden us to the action of grace • an exercise to integrate the experiences of your life that are keeping you from loving life as it is • a prayer guide that will help you yield to the work of the Spirit in your daily living

HeartWork 4 Going beyond the logic of this world Objective: Using a new HeartWork tool that integrates what has been learned in HeartWork 1, 2, and 3, to begin to look at negative situations from within the security of God’s reliability manifested in what is given to be. You will be able to explore: • how to work through negative experiences in the presence of Christ • how to let negative experiences become your teacher • a contemplative way of praying the Gospels that heals the negative experiences, disappointments, disillusionments, and unfinished business of your day or life • a concrete path of repentance and newness toward a different future Optional: Personal appointment with Sr. Kathryn Hermes, using the HeartWork methods learned thus far. These appointments are meant to offer one-on-one support in applying the HeartWork methods one has learned in order to work through and integrate a specific situation in your life. HeartWork 5 Becoming the image of Christ Objective: To surface self-images, beliefs, and convictions that paralyze our spiritual growth and prevent us from growing into the image of Christ You will be able to explore: • a tool for provoking the hidden beliefs that are obstacles to your faith development • a method of lectio divina, or sacred reading, that promotes authentic growth in becoming Christ and living in peace moment by moment. Optional: Personal appointment with Sr. Kathryn Hermes, using the HeartWork methods learned thus far. These appointments are meant to offer one-on-one support in applying the HeartWork methods one has learned in order to work through and integrate a specific situation in your life. The appointments are 30 minutes at a mutually agreeable time. Stipend: $30.

HeartWork 6 Love as the answer to the riddle of existence Objective: To discover that it’s by living through the events of your life without resisting them that you learn in the very events of your life how much God loves you. You will be able to explore: • what creates division within yourself • the power of self-rejection and how to become more aware of it • the reliability of reality • a prayer experience to help you discover the riddle of your existence

HeartWork 7 Rewriting Your Future Objective: Using the tools and awareness gained in HeartWork I through VI to identify and water the seeds of positive experiences in your life in order to create a different future.
