CLINIC

Welcome to 2013! THE  WORLD  NEVER  ENDED  ON  THE  21ST!

I  for  one  had  no  doubt  that  I  would  make  it  to  the  new   year  and  since  we  weren’t  wiped  out  by  a  huge  explosion   the  only  thing  were  waving  goodbye  to  is  the  festive   season  and  entering  the  January  blues.   After  all  the  presents  have  been  opened  and  unwanted   ones  have  been  recycled  its  hello  boss  and  goodbye   turkey,  in  this  month’s  edition  of  clinic  I  have  great   detoxing  ideas  to  help  you  get  rid  of  those  additional   pounds  from  healthy  recipes  to  spas.     Also  read  the  dramatic  change  I’m  making,  the  latest   celebrity  hairstyle,  mineral  makeup  and  a  quick  back  to   work  outfit.

CLINIC

My hair transition I  discovered  hair  extensions  at  the  age  of  15  and  at  the  time  I  thought  I  had  hit   gold,  it  was  the  answer  to  all  my  hair  problems.   They  were  maintainable  and  came  in  all  the  colours  of  the  rainbow  which  saved   me  the  bother  of  having  to  dye  my  natural  hair,  it  took  me  some  getting  used  to   at  first  but  eventual  after  a  few  trial  and  errors  I  mastered  the  craft  of  the  well   maintained  hair  extensions,  I  call  it  a  craft  because  any  one  who  wears  hair   extensions  knows  about  the  “dry  ends  syndrome  and  the  blending  nightmare   that  @team  hair  extensions  have  to  master.     Two  years  later  I  had  finally  mastered  the  craft  of  blending  and  the  dry  ends   syndrome  but  just  as  I  had  mastered  these  two  challenges  I  noticed  that  the   whole  hair  extension  thing  became  less  enjoyable  but  more  of  a  task,  if  I  didn’t   have  them  in  I  wouldn’t  feel  comfortable  which  meant  definitely  not  showing   my  face  in  public.   I  didn’t  like  what  a  few  strands  of  horse  hair  were  doing  to  me  and  turning  me   into,  I  stopped  appreciating  my  natural  being  and  became  obsessed  with  this   alter  ego  which  I  guess  I  could  call  it  that  because  when  I  had  them  in  I  felt   confident  and  proud  but  when  I  didn’t  I  felt  venerable  and  not  myself.     I  suppose  I  stuck  with  them  because  I  was  used  to  them  and  I  couldn’t  imagine   myself  without  them  but  as  the  years  went  by  I  stopped  liking  them  all  together   and  I  just  started  hating  the  whole  process,  plus  as  I  got  older  I  began  to  change   and  long,  high  maintained  hair  just  wasn’t  me  anymore.   Which  was  when  I  came  to  the  conclusion  (last  year)  that  I  was  done  with  hair   extensions  all  together,  the  new  me  like’s  something  completely  different….I   have  decided  to  go  natural!     It’s  not  a  decision  I  just  made  up  one  day,  I  have  been  wanting  to  do  this  for  a   year  now  but  I  guess  I  was  just  looking  for  the  right  time  and  now  I  think  is.   So  high  five  to  all  my  natural  sisters  out  there  not  that  there’s  anything  wrong   with  women  who  chose  to  wear  hair  extension,  I  liked  them  once  but  now  I   think  I’m  subconsciously  fitting  into  my  “hippy  persona”    I’m  a  vegetarian,  I  like   organic  products  and  I’m  very  free  spirited  and  almost  5  years  later  I  think  my   exterior  is  slowly  catching  up  to  my  interior  and  I  couldn’t  be  happier.

CLINIC   PLAITS ARE BACK!

Remember  plaits?......yes  those  tight  little  worms  attached   to  your  scalp  made  of  hair,  they  are  back  and  bigger  than   ever.   Celebrities  from  Rita  Ora  to  Rihanna  have  recently  being   sporting  them,  for  those  who  do  not  know  what  plaits  are.   Plaits  are  traditional  way  of  styling  hair  across  the  African   continent  and  have  been  dated  back  as  far  as   3000  B.C    and  continue  to  be  the  choice  of   hairstyle  for  many  women  inside  and  outside  of   the  continent.     They  even  made  an  appearance  in  Valentino’s   spring/summer  2012  show  and  continue  to  do  so   on  the  catwalk  as  well  as  off  and  something  tells   me  they  will  be  around  for  decades  to  come.   If  they  are  still  making  a  comeback  after  decades   than  I’m  sure  they’ll  be  around  for  generations.

CLINIC

Mineral makeup   Every  female  can  relate  to  being  knee  high  and  being  fascinated  by   their  mothers  makeup  routine  and  jumping  for  a  kiss  just  for  hope  of   lipgloss  on  your  lips.   As  soon  as  you  get  to  the  appropriate  age  you  started  experimenting   with  makeup  only  to  find  out  it  could  give  you  spots  but  now  you  can   wear  your  makeup  without  any  woes  thanks  to  minerals.     Mineral  makeup  isn’t  something  new,  it’s  been  about  since  I  was   studying  beauty  therapy  in  college  that’s  two  years  plus.     It’s  an  amazing  invention  it  does  good  for  your  skin  internally  rather   than  just  working  on  your  skin  externally  like  most  makeup  because   its  made  up  of  real  minerals.     Mineral makeup is actually made up of tiny micronized minerals that occur naturally in the earth. These are usually minerals such as zinc oxide, titanium oxide, mica, or iron oxides. Certain combinations of these and other minerals together mineral makeup different varieties of makeup that are created specifically for the skins benefit.   Surprisingly  enough  mineral  makeup  hasn’t  really  taken  off  which  is   something  I  can’t  wrap  my  head  around,  being  a  makeup  artist  I  find     myself  having  to  explain  it  to  many   other  makeup  artist  at  shoots  on  a   regular  basis.   There’s  nothing  worse  than  a  spotty   model  because  it  makes  your  job   harder  as  well  adding  to  the   photographer’s  photoshoping  time,   which  is  why  mineral  makeup  is  the   solution  because  it  does  good  for  the   skin  hence  no  spots.   I  strongly  suggest  it  not  just  for  models   but  for  females  of  age  everywhere,  it’s   a  great  invention  and  I  think  it  should   at  least  be  given  the  chance  to  work  it’s   magic.

Quick healthy recipe to get rid of them carbs!

CLINIC

AMERICAN  VANILLA  STYLE  PANCACKES  WITH   RHUBARB

Ingredients

.300g mangetout, trimmed .2 avocados .Juice of 1 lemon .4 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil .1 tbsp Dijon-style mustard .1 red onion, thinly sliced .100g sun-blush tomatoes .1 tbsp chopped fresh mint or tarragon .2 handfuls of pea shoots 3 tbsp pumpkin or sunflower seeds

1. It's up to you whether you blanch the mangetout or eat them raw. Unless you've picked them yourself, they will taste a little starchy when raw - I blanch them in water at a rolling boil for no more than 30 seconds, then set aside on kitchen paper to soak up the excess moisture. 2. While they rest, prepare the avocados. Halve lengthways and remove the stones. Using a small knife - a paring or fruit knife is ideal - cut criss-cross shapes through the flesh, stopping just short of the skin. Now you can simply peel the avocado over the salad bowl and let the pieces fall in. 3. Mix the lemon juice with the oil and mustard and dress the avocado pieces immediately. When ready to eat, add the other ingredients and toss lightly. Season to taste and serve. Tip: As recherché as sun-blush tomatoes have become, it's best to use them before and after the summer - when British salad tomatoes are still on the wrong side of bland and watery.
