LISTENING IN LENT: More than the Search for our Next Rector

Have you signed up???? The direction of any parish is determined by the people who participate in the life of that parish. As Episcopalians, we are not only guided by the Holy Spirit, we are rooted in the Baptismal Covenant (Book of Common Prayer, p. 304) as we seek to faithfully follow the call to live and work and witness as God’s people in New Bern and beyond. As Christ Church begins in earnest to seek her next rector, parishioners are encouraged to join the conversation in one of six opportunities to share the ways you believe God is calling Christ Church to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to hear how others believe God is issuing the same calling. Each of these conversations will be grounded in the five questions of the Baptismal Covenant and will explore two questions for the parish’s common life together:

LISTENING IN LENT: What about the kids? The Sunday evening (5:00pm)Listening in Lent session is the only one with a separate program specifically for younger children. Bill+ will work with the 2nd—5th graders, preparing them for their First Intentional Communion. Pre-K—1st grade will participate in a fun and faith-filled activity with Ann Bustard and Paul+. Childcare will be provided in the nursery, as well!

What strengths do we need to gain and/or build upon as a Parish to live more fully into our Baptismal Covenant?

What characteristics are we looking for in a new rector to assist us in living more fully into our Baptismal Covenant?

Using an Affinity Diagrams model based in part on the Expected, Required, Delighted triangle used in the Director of Music search last year, facilitators will guide weekly Lenten conversations based one of the five Baptismal Covenant promises. Look in the Reception Area near the Parish House to sign-up for a group that best suits your schedule. The March Crown has more information. Help the Vestry in planning by signing up now!

There is a lot to know about the election of the next Bishop of East Carolina.  

What does a bishop do, exactly? How are we connected to other Episcopal churches in East Carolina? Who elects the Bishop, and how does the election work? What do you need to know about the Nominees for 8th Bishop of East Carolina?

For a great conversation on these and other questions,

join the Rev. Paul Canady in the Library on Sundays at 10:00am on March 16, 23, 30, and April 6. Paul serves on the Bishop Transition Committee and chairs the Communications Team. We will use a discussion guide developed by the Rev. Catherine Powell, Rector of Church of the Servant, Wilmington. We want our voting delegates to cast their vote based on who parishioners feel the Holy Spirit is calling to be our Bishop. We invite you to be a part of that discernment with our clergy and lay delegates.

A mock-up of the dedication plaque is on the wall in the reception area. The plaque is in recognition of those who contributed to the building campaign in recent years. Katherine Haroldson has asked parishioners to check the mock-up and then let her know if there are any corrections. (There are a few names missing due to a copying problem. Those people have already been notified.)
