Belief in the sanctity of life Most religious believers, including Christians believe in the sanctity of life. This belief says that:  God is the source of all life.  Life is sacred and must be preserved.  Every life has a purpose.  God alone should decide when human life ends. 

Main: Case study - Conjoined twins 1.

2.

16 year old conjoined twins that have a good quality of life. After watching this clips: Can you think of 3 questions conjoined twins might raise for religious people?

Case study 2 Chris and Alex were born as conjoined twins.  They are joined at the abdomen and doctors would have to conduct a series of difficult and risky operations to separate them. Parents and doctors have to decide what to do now they are two years old. If they separate them one may well die but at least one is likely to survive. If they do nothing, it will be impossible for either to live a ‘normal’ life and there is a serious risk that one or both will die in the next few years.  What do you think is the right decision?  Would a religious person agree with you? 
