He will serve on the Board for the remainder of the two-year term ending in May 2025. Congratulations to Mark Smith on his appointment to the 2024-2025 Sun City Aliante Board of Directors.
There are serval upcoming events I would like to share with you. First, I want to note that we have many veterans living in Sun City Aliante who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and a very active Veteran's Club and Veteran's Auxiliary These Clubs and their events are open to everyone in our community and they welcome your involvement. On Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m., our Veteran's Club will host a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Memorial Monument in front of the Community Center There is a long tradition and rich history associated with this service and ceremony
This solemn Flag Retirement Ceremony is conducted to ensure that Old Glory, as the American flag is affectionately known, is honored in its final moments. This process reflects the deep respect and patriotism felt towards the flag, acknowledging that even as it reaches the end of its service, it deserves a dignified and respectful conclusion. The local Boy Scouts, a bugler from TAAPS and bagpiper will assist with this amazing ceremony
Another event you won't want to miss is Military, Veterans and First Responders Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 19 at Craig Regional Park from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join the fun and show your appreciation to our heroes. This event, celebrating its 10th Anniversary, is open to the public and is well supported by our Veteran's Club, Veteran's Auxiliary and Sun City residents.
I hope you can attend our COFFEE WITH THE BOARD on Thursday, October 24 at 10 a.m. in the Vista Room. We are excited to share our ideas with you and look forward to getting your comments and suggestions as we build a plan for the future.

contributed to maintain, protect, and enhance our Sun City Aliante community My last day was September 11, 2024, at the conclusion of the Board of Directors meeting.
After serving on the Finance Advisory Committee (FAC), I was elected to the Board May 8, 2019. My peers on the Board elected me as Treasurer in May 2020, and Vice President in May 2024. I achieved my DCAL Certification (Dedicated Community Association Leader) from Community Associations Institute (CAI) in September, 2020, and my Advanced DCAL in September, 2023. These designations reflect my dedication to becoming the best Director I could be by being knowledgeable in the responsibilities and current best practices of serving on a Board of Directors for a Homeowners Association.
I have attended nearly 50 Board meetings (and never missed a single one), completed well over 150 education classes and attended two National CAI conferences ~ while also serving on two CAI-NV committees: Membership and Legacy
I received the Award of Excellence for the Southern Nevada Dedicated Association Community Leader (DCAL) of the Year for 2023. I have spent numerous hours, too many hours to count, preparing for and attending meetings, serving on various committees as Board Liaison, continuously assessing our Association's financial health, making decisions that are best for our community, and solving problems. All to ensure that our community is the very best it can be.
Will I miss this intimate interaction with all things Sun City Aliante-oriented? Absolutely! But it is time to focus on my personal and family life to accomplish things that I have been putting off far too long. I am humbled and most grateful to this community for the support and confidence in me through the years.

Hello, Sun City Aliante!
There is so much I want to cover this month from political signs, For Sale signs, dog walking on the golf course, to committee volunteers. However, I will focus on one thing only: Age Verification Surveys.
proactively reminding the community about the Age Verification Survey that was due on August 31. Last month, we sent out Courtesy Notices to those who did not submit their survey forms.
Please understand the Fair Housing Act requires a determination of occupancy for each unit every two years. After we sent out Courtesy Notice, we received many phone calls, emails, and walk-ins because they thought we were accusing homeowners of having renters on their property The notice states “the person (or residents) that lives at the SCAL address will be the one filling out and signing the form. IF you have a rental please make sure your tenants complete the form…”
Then there are those who ask why they have to complete this survey So, of course, I happily explain as clearly as possible.
Sun City Aliante is an age-restricted community The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination on the basis of age and familial status, while allowing ce
restrictions are not considered discriminatory if they comply with all of the following requirements.
• At least 80% of the occupied units are occupied by persons 55 years of age or older, and
• The housing facility or community publishes and adheres to policies and procedures that demonstrate the intent to provide housing to persons 55 years of age or older, and
• The housing facility or community can provide documentation for verification of occupancy, by means of –(a) provide for verification by reliable surveys and affidavits; and (b) include examples of published written policies and procedures for determination of compliance with the Act.
Upon demand by a judicial order and/or the United States Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) personnel for verification purposes, the association must provide necessary documents, so we do not lose our age restricted community status.
A hearty THANK YOU to those homeowners who promptly responded to their notices with kindness, calmness, and even an apology Carol and I are here to help and clarify any questions, but please, do pause and remain calm before getting upset because you received a violation letter
On the form, please indicate every occupant in the household. Please submit the form to the Front Desk or to me or Carol. We thank you in advance for completing this form as quickly as possible.
Just a reminder that the Sun City Aliante Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, October 25 in celebration of Nevada Day. The Community Center will remain open regular hours from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nevada Day commemorates the state's admission to the Union on October 31, 1864.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Hello Residents,
CELEBRATING THE 250TH ISSUE OF THE BREEZE
This October, we celebrate publishing the 250th issue of The Breeze magazine. The publication was established under the auspices of the Del Webb Corporation in 2003. During my research, the oldest copy I could find was the March 2005 issue which contained eight pages. The highlight of the
Cordially Invites You ~ To Attend the Grand Opening of the Sun City Aliante Community Center on Wednesday, April 6, 2005.” The Grand Opening included a Ribbon Cutting at 5 p.m. and an Open House from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
With the opening of the new 17,800 square-foot C
Middle School in North Las Vegas to the Social Hall and the Administrative Staff finally moved into their new home. Also of note, at this time, our own Lori Daniels and Shirley Spivey worked as “Monitors” at a much smaller Front Desk. At that time, there were 16 Clubs as compared to the 40 + Clubs and Special Interest Groups we have today.
When I came to work for Sun City Aliante in September 2010, we were publishing a 20-page publication. I came to my position with a plan to expand and improve the content and design of the magazine and increase advertising revenue to support the publication. In order to accomplish this, I developed a program to attract and retain advertisers by offering them opportunities to do educational presentations, health and safety expos, and Advertiser Meet 'n' Greets. It was exciting to see my dreams come to fruition. We went from 20 pages in 2010 to 32, to 40, then to 48; and finally, in 2023 we expanded to 52 pages. We currently publish a 52-page magazine supported by some 50 + advertisers. The annual advertising revenue we collect pays for publishing and mailing the monthly magazine with a substantial excess going directly to the Association's Operating Fund.
Glancing through the many years of Breeze publications is like talking a journey through the history of Sun City Aliante including the expansion of the Pickleball Courts, the Expansion and Enclosure of the Community Center, the many shows, athletic events and tours offered by the Lifestyle Department over the years and much more. Through it all we never missed publishing the monthly Breeze even through the height of the COVID pandemic, and many of our advertisers hung with us through this crisis. A heartful THANK YOU to all of our readers and to those of you who have shared your personal stories. It has been a great ride… and it continues on to even more exciting adventures.
Before I close, I want to focus on health and wellness. The Flu Season is here and it's time to ensure you have all the immunizations you have to keep you healthy and safe. Flu shots and other immunizations save lives! If you missed the Shot Clinic on September 18, no worries. We have arranged to have the Smith's Mobile Shot Clinic set up on Thursday, October 22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Sun City Aliante Parking Lot. If you cannot remember which shots you need, no problem. Pharmacists can access your shot record and determine which vaccines you need. Please remember to bring your insurance card. Payments can be made directly to the pharmacy
Happy October and enjoy the delicious foods of the season!

COUNCILMAN RICHARD CHERCHIO - WARD 4
Hello Everyone, and Hello October! It's so enjoyable to be back to two-digit temperatures. Let's get out and enjoy this refreshing weather. I know a lot of our residents leave during the summer months; so, I am waiting a bit longer to hold a noon event in our Vista Room for those interested in hearing from representatives of the Governor's office on many important issues that impact us locally I also have a few speakers from other organizations waiting in the wings to speak with you as well as one of our City Departments.
If you have known me over the past few years, you will understand that aside from trying to represent close to 75,000 residents in our Ward, I have a long-time special appreciation for our active duty, reserve and retired miliary personal and families. I truly appreciate their service to our great country. That's why I want to remind you to attend our annual Armed Forces, Military Veterans, and First responders Appreciation Day on October 19 at our Craig Ranch Regional Park (with hopefully pleasant weather). This will be our "10th YEAR" celebrating our appreciation for their service to our community and country Please go on our website to review the events of past years and information for our coming event. www.nlvevents4military.org
I am also very passionate about our beloved “Furry Friends!” I want to ensure all of our animals are treated properly in every sense of the word. With that in mind, I want to invite you to attend and enjoy another event this month. Our "5th Annual Paws In The Park" will be held on October 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at our beautiful Nature Discovery Park on Aliante Pkwy. (You can access the park from Nature Park Dr next to Carl's Jr.) We will have vendors available offering m a n y d i ff e r e n t p r o d u c t s a s w e l l a s information related to our furry family members. We will also have food trucks available with delicious treats.
In addition, our Animal Protection Service Officers will be available to answer any questions you may have. The highlight of the event will be our Dress up “Pet and Parent” Parade and Contest, where you and your pet can dress alike in a theme-orientated outfit and be entered into a contest to win prizes.
Once again this year, Ms. Christy Stevens of Hearts Alive Village will be on hand to provide Identification Chipping Services for those pet families who cannot afford to provide that safety net for their Pets. In addition to all the fun, we will feature a live DJ.
I will close by mentioning a very important new program that I have the privilege of being involved in. Ms. Cindy Jackson, who some of you may know as she lives here in Aliante, has volunteered her time to begin a New Arts and Culture Program for our city and residents. She has created a non-profit organization to provide art classes for residents. I have known Cindy for many years, and she is also an Animal Advocate. She will be available to explain the program and how you can sign up and begin painting animal art as I have been doing and enjoying. Please visit her website for more information www.artfullives.org
Wishing you a Happy Halloween!!!
Yours in Service, Richard

GOTHIC LANDSCAPING MAINTENANCE REPORT
The maintenance that was performed in August 2024 includes, but is not limited to the following:
Landscape at Widewing Park: Plants were trimmed, area cleaned up and removed debris.
Water Rail Landscape: Plants were trimmed, area cleaned up and removed debris.
Irrigation: Tested and certified the 15 backflows on property One backflow failed testing. The failed backflow was repaired, retested, and certified. The test results were sent to the City of North Las Vegas.
Palm Tree Pruning: All 20 date palms were pruned. By trimming away dead or dying fronds, you can help your palm trees allocate their resources more efficiently and focus their energy on new growth.
Selective Trimming of Overgrown Plants: This process is key in keeping the plants looking their best without interfering with bloom cycles. Once plants have established roots, the burst of growth of the plants and trees throughout the community begins to fluctuate. We need to customize our approach regarding the pruning and general care of all plants and trees.
Mineral Build Up Removal: We continued to disperse the mineral buildup on the decorative rock and decomposed granite.
Weed Removal: We continued to remove weeds by hand around the community and serviced the doggie bag stations.
Extra Work: We sent out an extra crew on two separate occasions to assist with cleanup of dead foliage on the plants. The dead foliage was due to the excessive heat. While the extra crew was there, they also performed other maintenance duties, such as trimming, blowing out, collecting debris, and raking rock.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
MONTHLY BULLETIN:
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
October will bring many of our summer travelers back home. Everyone will need to be aware of their surroundings once again. Watch for strange cars or people walking that you may have never seen before. Not everyone you've not seen before is a suspicious character, but the point is to be observant and aware. With all the new homes being built around Sun City Aliante, we are getting younger people walking through our neighborhood and occasionally knocking on doors or ringing the doorbell asking for water or even money If this happens to you, call Securitas at 702-237-4723.
On the first Monday of the month, you may have noticed a car, and possibly a different car each month with a magnetic sign on the side that reads Community Ambassador They are a part of First Services Residential, our management company, and they are checking to see if homes are in compliance with issues like weeds, open garage doors and water leaks, to name a few Jim Blossey has received calls regarding this vehicle and the positive is, people are being observant. Keep it up.
Residents are always welcome to attend our monthly Neighborhood Watch meetings. Join us on October 17 at 4:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. For information regarding the Sun City Aliante Neighborhood Watch p r o g r a m , c o n t a c t o u r c o o r d i n a t o r

Rosh Hashanah observances include candle lighting in the evenings, and festive meals welcoming the sweetness of the year ahead, which often includes challah and apples dipped in honey Prayer services include the sounding of the ram's horn (shofar). Following Rosh Hashanah, the “Ten Days of Repentance” is observed, marking the opportunity to reflect on any sins and transgressions over the past 12 months.
Kol Nidre is a declaration chanted in the synagogue before the beginning of the evening service on Yom Kippur, when fasting begins. The New Year represents a fresh start.
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. It marks the culmination of the 10 Days of Awe. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with fasting and intensive prayer, often spending much of the day in synagogue services.
Break-the-Fast is the meal eaten at the end of the fast day, which is enjoyed after the sounding of the shofar

CELBRATING WORLD PEACE DAY
Minnie Cancellaro, a resident of Sun City Aliante, recently collaborated with friends, relatives and neighbors to create a tribute to World Peace Day, which was celebrated on September 21. “This Spring we got together to do a project related to world peace. Although we have differing political affiliations, we all share the despair and hopelessness that has permeated our nation, and we wanted to do something positive in reaction to it,” explained Minnie.
“The attached photo is a picture of 1,000 origami cranes that we folded and we will send to the Children's Peace Monument in Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan. The cranes will be displayed with thousands of other crane projects from around the world. In Japan, a crane is considered a mystical creature and is said to live for a thousand years. Legend explains that a person or group of individuals who fold 1,000 origami cranes within one year with focused attention are expressing their hope for world peace.
When asked about her motivation to create this project, Minnie responded: “All of my friends are very sad about the wars, meanness and aggression that is going on in today's world. We invited family and friends to come together to talk about solutions and feel a sense of community and love for one another We decided to celebrate our joy of being together by creating this origami crane project which will eventually be sent to the Peace Park Memorial in Japan.”
In celebration of World Peace Day, their inspiring artistic creation for world peace was displayed in the Grand View Room in the Sun City Aliante from September 16 to September 21. The display also included a poster board with an explanation about how and why they created this project and a sign recognizing World Peace Day.
Thanks to all who participated: Terry Anderson, Connie Bensler, Bob Cancellaro, Minnie Cancellero, Mary Jane D’ Agati, Deborah Dunn, Fern Neiman, Sandra Reuther, Judi Stanford, Holly Strasser, Minnie Wood and Jan Zimmerman.
Minnie Cancellaro proudly displays the tribute to World Peace Day that she spearhead with her group of relatives and friends.

OCTOBER IS BEST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH – BE
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held in October every year, aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects one in eight women in the United States every year and 2.3 million women worldwide. Although breast cancer is much more common in women, breast cancer affects men, too. According to the American Cancer Society, 2,790 men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, and about 530 are expected to die from the disease. But lack of awareness and stigma can be barriers to detection and care in men, trans men, and non-binary people.
Breast cancer starts when healthy cells change and begin to grow out of control and turn into a tumor Tumors can begin in different areas of the breast, like the glands that make breast milk, the ducts that carry milk to the nipple, or other tissue regions.
Having a family history of breast cancer, including inherited gene mutations, can increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
When it comes to breast cancer, you have to be proactive, especially if you have dense breasts. You may be surprised to learn that simple mammograms may not be able to detect breast cancer. Learn to know and understand your body
According to the Mayo Clinic, almost half of all women have dense breast tissue. This can hide cancer during mammograms. Molecular B r e a s t I m a g i n g ( M B I ) u s e s g a m m a c a m e r a s t o fi n d w h a t mammograms miss.
MBI is an advanced technique, but the procedure is simple. A tracing substance is injected into your arm. If any breast cancer exists, it will absorb the tracing substance. A special camera shows tumors as bright areas.
MBI plus mammogram finds 4 times more breast c a
studied over 2,500 women with dense breast tissue. A total of 66% of bre
mammograms but caught by MBI. Better testing means confidence in results.
Also, you may think you have everything covered with y o u r a n n u a
mammogram. However, many cancers are silent killers. For example, you may have no signs or symptoms until one day you find out that you have Stage 3 or 4 Ovarian cancer. The best thing to do is to take the initiative, ask your Gynecologist for early testing; become well informed about your own body
Ask your gynecologist to give you BRCA genetic testing to find out whether or not you may be at risk for cancer Another simple blood test is the CA 125 which detects Ovarian Cancer. These tests will show whether or not you have cancer. Remember, be proactive… the life you save or prolong may be your own!
