TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT : CNX In terms of urban planning, TOD (Transit-oriented development) has been applied to several countries. This project was meant to apply this idea to Thailand which the site is located on the Northern of Thailand, Chiangmai. The project aims to focus on the idea of creativity since Chiangmai has been recognized as a creative city by UNESCO, the city itself contains numerous potential artists but it lacks of co-working space and the space exhibiting their work, so the project aim to develop the space for the artist as a co-working space and space for exhibition along with the idea of transit oriented development principles and become the result of the project – “Hidden neighborhood of art”.


ELEVATED SPACE


DESCRIPTION

In this phase, we have to design the utilitarian to helping local people to support their function in their daily life and have a beauty in itself. Our site is on Yaowarat which we can selected the site by ourselves. This project is about to use the space in the most sufficient way. Firsly, Yaowarat is an area that contain many of atrracting place which make Yaowarat is an area that one of the most expensive land cost in Thailand. The typical context in Yaowarat is a shophouse building with 2-3 stories, function as commercial building. The owner is the local people which use 1st floor as a commercial space and left the upper floor as a private space or storage. As from site analysis, I found that most of shophouse has an empty space on upper floor and not use the space wisely, So this project is to re-organized the space and try to create yaowarat in different perspective. The project is an elevated space to use the upper space as a path walk point to attracting location which allow the 2nd floor shophouse to have a space for commercial purpose, to use the space more efficiently since the proportion of the shophouse is a long horizontal way which have plenty of space in the back, So the idea is to use the area on front facade as a commercial area and can split the space on the backside as a private space. The site is on the road fromWat mangkorn MRT station to Yaowarat road, This project concerns on 3 conditions, Physical context, Bangkok construction regulation and acces to the project.

Bangkok construction regulation - construction on upper floor cannot reach out the limit of 1st floor pathwalk which make my project width limit as same as the path walk length on 1st floor. - The bridge cross have to reach the height limit on 5m. (heighest car can pass) Physical contexts (on front facade 2nd floor.) - electric wires on 2nd floor - steel construction add by owner of the building - Air compressor - Condition of different height of building structure - Electric pole / Light pole - Canopy that disturb pathwalk Access to the project In each street has a small alley that can reach to inner part of the area, The project access purpose this area as a entrance and exit on the project, also the building that function as a commercial building that can connect from 1-2 floor (retail store or restaurant), user can use the normal circulation in the building as a entrance to the project on the 2nd floor. **This project aim to focus on realistic construction process while the idea is just an conceptual idea which can develop more further.**
