Every year we feel like the holidays zoom by far too quickly. As moms of toddlers and tweens, we seem to get the hang of things more and more while navigating what’s worth stressing over and what’s not. Because we love this time of year we try and map everything all out ahead of time, including holiday shopping. We also think about the downfalls that come along with the holidays —nutrition goes out the window and our kids go crazy with their new routine. But with all the rush and meltdowns (kids & parents), we love our family! This issue we've gathered our favorite gift ideas, recipes, no-fuss looks for the holidays, and our family holiday traditions. We hope you love this issue as much as we do! Happiest Holidays to all our friends, family, and subscribers who made this year a great one! Sending you love and gratitude this holiday season. See you all in 2018 - exciting things to come!

xx Fanny and Patricia

Our Family Holiday Tradition - Gingerbread House in the City BY PATRICIA ORO Six years ago we took the kids to San Francisco to see the enormous gingerbread house at the Fairmont Hotel. Since then we've made this our family holiday tradition. We are big believers in public transportation so we usually take the ferry instead of drive. The kids love it! They get to ride in a big boat, enjoy the view, eat donuts and drink hot chocolate. We feel very fortunate to have this option available to us as commuting on the San Francsico Bay is hard to beat.

Once we arrived at the Ferry Building we got fresh bread from Acme Bread Company and then walked to Philz Coffee for a cup of hipster coffee. We then took the cable car up California Street to the Fairmont Hotel. After the kids see the gingerbread house, write a letter to Santa and explore around the hotel we walk to Chinatown for lunch.

This year we added one more stop - the San Francisco Cable Car Museum. I'm so glad we went to see how the cable cars work. It's pretty amazing and a must see. You'll be amazed at the mechanics and also learn a lot about the history of one of two National Historic Landmarks that move (New Orleans’ St. Charles streetcar line is the other). We ended our trip with ice cream back at the Ferry Building, and two tired parents.

HEALTHY LIVING EASY WHOLE 30 RECIPES, Nékter Classic Cleanse, and Ways To Stay Healthyish When You Have Kids

mondaysparkles.com | FALL 2017

EASY WHOLE30 RECIPES BY PATRICIA ORO Here are a few of my easy Whole30 recipes. I like to get my ingredients prepped on Sunday so I can mix and match dishes all week. I usually have the following in my fridge: chopped bell peppers, carrots, cucumbers as well as cooked steamed kale, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I also like to have emergency protein ready like cooked bacon, ground beef and grilled chicken. To save time I sometimes get a roasted chicken from the grocery store (On Friday's they're on sale at Whole Foods). For fruit I always get apples, bananas, melons and berries. I like to keep at least a couple of avocados on hand for salads. And last I always have roasted/cooked sweet potatoes. They come in handy for frittatas or any egg dish. Clean eating doesn't have to be complicated or expensive if you plan ahead. A great app for ideas, planning, shopping and cooking is the Nom Nom Paleo App. It will save you time and keep you on track.

Simple frittatas. Recipe here.

Lettuce wraps. I stir fried some of my chopped veggies with my emergency protein and topped with raisins.

Slow Cooker Beef and Tomato Stew. This dish is a must try! You can get the recipe here.

Made a quick salad with leftovers. Lettuce, bell peppers, grilled chicken, bacon, chopped almonds and raisin. Topped with olive oil and lemon juice.

I used whatever left I had in the fridge to make this vegetable and chicken soup. Boil 2 cups of chicken broth then add your veggies and protein. A pinch of salt, white pepper, ginger or whatever seasoning you like. Topped with some cooked bacon.

I made this salad bowl for dinner. I used steamed broccoli, kale, roasted sliced sweet potatoes, bell peppers, grilled chicken, avocado and raisins. Olive oil and lemon juice for dressing.

Ways To Stay Healthyish When You Have Kids Our co-founder Fanny joined some pretty amazing ladies on a six month fitness journey with InShape Health Clubs. And here she is starting her sixth month! Since partnering up with InShape, she's been working out, intermittent fasting, obsessed with making and baking healthier versions of her favorite treats, and is down 2% body fat.

Here are her top ten ways to stay healthyish: 10. Breathe. No, REALLY. Just breathe. Take time to mindfully breathe. In fact, take three deep breaths right now. Involve your kids and their breathing buddies. 9. Pack a Snack: Banish that 4pm slump with a chocolate treat. Yup. Dark Chocolate trail mix with over 70% cocoa for mama. The kids love it too. 8. Workout Buddies and workout apps are priceless! You'll burn more calories. 7. Try before you buy. Find a health club or gym that fits all your needs. Schedule, kids, type of classes, fitness goals, etc...most places will have free trials or pay per class. Try out InShape for the entire family for 7 days free! 6. Track Your Food. It's a pain, I know. I've been counting macros and it's been eye opening. The good news about this is that I can have a glass of wine if I wanted to. I track most days. I don't track on cheat days.

5. Walk the walk. I spend a ton of time sitting so I try to park farther when running errands so I can do more walking. When I am on the phone, I will also walk around just so I can move. I'm standing up while writing this piece. 4. Go for recipe websites and food blogging sites that post their nutritional information. Even the dessert ones. 3. Yoga before bed. I've been pretty consistent about doing 5-10 minutes of stretching/yoga before bed and it's helped my flexibility and sleep. The kids will even join in some nights. 2. Going to your third kid party this weekend? Load up on veggies and good stuff before the parties. Everyone in the family loads up. 1. Be yourself. There will be bad days, ice cream days, stay in your jammies all day days, and junk food days... you get my drift. It's okay to give yourself a pass. Just celebrate your wins and reset for the next day!

MEET THE FOUNDER Zandra Azariah Cunningham Tiffany Larson

mondaysparkles.com | WINTER 2017

28

ZANDRA A. CUNNINGHAN What inspired you to create your brand? I was inspired by my dad telling me "NO" . He refused to buy me lip balm and suggested I make my own. Clearly I was up for the challenge. I had no idea it would turn into a major company at that time. I just really wanted lip balm. Biggest Success? Wow, I have to say, every time I get on a stage, teach a #STEM workshop or have the opportunity to share my story and mission with other girls , I feel successful. I have been featured on tons of news outlets, TV shows and in magazines yet the feeling I get when a little girl tells me I inspired her to do something amazing like help her community or start a business, or when I learn that a girl across the globe has school supplies or a bike to travel to school because of work that I put in... my that's what it's all about. Biggest Challenge? Finding the balance I need to between school, work and hanging out with friends. What advice would you give anyone following their dreams and passions? I would say don't stop doing you! if it makes your heart happy, stay focused and keep pushing. When it gets hard , remember your why and try to give back when you can. You can't do it all alone, connect with a super supportive tribe that is like minded. What would you tell your younger self? Ha! okay, I would tell my younger self that anything is possible, fear is not an option and you can and will build a major company that will create change around the world! What do you love about the product we are featuring (THE BIG BALM) Tips? Zandra Big Balms are amazing! the fact that you can use them everywhere, is huge. I have them in very purse, book bag and in the car, I will never get caught out there dry and ashy, not when I have my Big Balm. They are perfect for dry stops, knees, elbows, cuticles and of course your lips. This is where is all began, with lip balm. The Big Balm will forever be my fav. mondaysparkles.com | WINTER 2017

TIFFANY LARSON How would you describe yourself? Intuitive, Giving, Strong What do you do besides motherhood? I am a business owner and coach at Fitness Revolution. My husband Jeff and I started this outdoor fitness boot camp back in February of 2006. It started out as one class per day at a park in Napa and has grown to 4 locations, 44 classes per week, personal training, massage, over 250 wonderful clients and an amazing team of 7 team members that make it all happen! Do you have a family tradition? Birthdays at Benihana. Christmas Day at grandmas. Green jello salad at Thanksgiving. Summer vacation in Tahoe. What’s the best advice you have ever received? Oh my goodness, I'm usually giving the advice! There are so many pieces of advice but two stick out in my head and I know you only asked for one. My grandma would always say “birds of a feather, flock together” and when I was a young girl, I used to hate that saying because it was usually given to me at a time when I wasn’t choosing the best people to hang out with. Now it rings so true for me…. I really try to surround myself with positive people and people that are being or doing things that I aspire to be or do. Life is too short to hang out with energy sucking vampires. Also, a business coach I had used the phrase, “you get paid for done”.... I tend to procrastinate and whenever I put things off, I start hearing his voice saying “you only get paid for done.” How do you balance your life? I always joke that I am a recovering control freak. It sounds funny but it's true. Right around our second year in business, I was still working full time, we had 2 toddlers and a 9 year old, I ran a business at night and wore stress and busy-ness as some sort of badge. I ended up having, what I believe was a nervous breakdown. Then I started seeing a life coach who taught me a totally new concept of self-care. I started taking time out of my unbelievable crazy day for myself, to workout, or read or just breathe. A few years later I was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent several surgeries, chemo and radiation. An experience like that forces you to find balance in your life, it changed me. I can tell almost instantly if I am out of “balance” so I quickly start self care to get back in balance. My workout is non-negotiable. If I feel stress I walk away and come back to work on whatever is later. I come first. Then everyone and everything else. It doesn’t take much to really take care of yourself, maybe 30-90 minutes per day and it really makes a difference mondaysparkles.com | WINTER 2017
