EEN STO R M ING 01 GR urban agricolture ideas Academic project location: year: professors: team:

Adriano district, Milan. 2018 / 19 Carlotta Fontana. Lidia Brambati, Martina Ciampi.

The thesis presented comes from a previous project developed during a previous workshop that dealt with the redevelopment of Via Adriano, the central hub of the homonymous district. For several years, the district has been the centre of interest for the study of the outskirts of Milan due to the bad and poor conditions of most of the houses and commercial activities in that area. Following the theme of the workshop, this thesis is intended to continue the urban regeneration project focusing on the theme of greenery and in particular of the urban gardens, not only involving the associations situated in the neighbourhood, but also the municipalities and districts nearby. The gardens of Bergamella, in the municipality of Sesto San Giovanni next to Adriano district, were the main reference point of our project. Thanks to the direct comparison with the horticulturists, it was possible to observe an active and functioning project with both its positive aspects and its critical issues. Moreover, it has been useful to participate to numerous meetings organized in the district in order to realise the feasibility of the plan, considering that it previews the direct involvement of the local residents. Two different areas were considered and two different types of vegetable gardens were designed for each part: an educational vegetable garden located inside the town and a private garden in an area where there are already some unauthorized vegetable gardens, along the Martesana canal. The intent was to create an opportunity for the inhabitants to return to the care of their land, inviting them to feel the territory and also favoring social interaction The final tables are the result of the collected material, starting from an urban scale and reaching a greater level of detail in order to achieve an executive final project.

O STR UZIO NE 03 Csocial housing Academic project location: year: professors: team:

via Carlo Boncompagni, Milan. 2017 Andrea Campioli, Gianni Utica, Gianpaolo Rosati. Lidia Brambati, Martina Ciampi.

The objective of the project is to redevelop a suburban area in the city of Milan by connecting the lot analyzed with the already existing green system and the one still in the forecast. As a result we have almost all of the lot used as a park, both public and private, in order to guarantee to residents a transit and a rest area equipped with services that could be useful for the entire community. Inside the lot, on the front facing the street we found two residential buildings, intended for social housing and, on the ground floor, spaces for commercial activities. Inside the private park there are covered structures that change function according the needs (bicycle storage, meeting spaces, etc.) that follow the principles of flexibility. Internally we find different types of accommodation (one-room, two-room, three-room and four-room) designed to be suitable for different types of families (young couples, elderly couples, families with one or more children, students etc). The theme of the green continues inside the building where we find walls that host vertical gardens. On the side facing the road they have a private connotation while on the side of the private garden it becomes a meeting place for the inhabitants. Two different construction solutions have been developed: the first one, more traditional, with a heavy structure in reinforced concrete and the second one with a steel structure and dry-mounted elements. We made esign choices in order to make the project more sustainable and the selection of construction materials was influenced by this intent too. The Life Cycle Assessment has been studied for both solutions.

I- C A L C HI 04 Rrestoration of the historic building “Calchi e Taeggi” Academic project location: year: professors: team:

Corso di Porta Vigentina, Milan. 2018 Maria Paola Borgarino, Raffaella Laviscio, Daniela Oreni. Lidia Brambati, Martina Ciampi, Giulia Griziotti, Roberta Nappo, Berta Jovè Batallè.

The intervention is based on five fundamental principles: the functionality of the intervention, obtained thanks to the planning of an easy and immediate accessibility to all spaces; the highlighting of historical memory, achieved through the study of the most important thresholds; the respect for existing structures, which consists in keeping distance from the elements considered historically valuable in order to protect them; the reversibility of the intervention, obtained thanks to the use of materials that require dry assembly; readability of the steps of history, which consists in making the new interventions distinguishable from the old ones. The functions to be included in the design phase have been proposed according to a study by the usability. The chosen activities satisfy different areas such as leisure, culture and health and are aimed at sharing and production. Everything is correlated by space for events. They have been chosen activities that allow the building to be frequented by users of all ages and during all day. Inside the building the present functions have been maintained and some new ones have been implemented instead. The functions included are the following: a bar, an area dedicated to recreative workshops, a study space, an exhibition hall, a school of artistic disciplines such as music, dance and theater, a space dedicated to courses for the elderly, a gym and a co-working area. The internal appearance of the building has been kept as unchanged as possible, with the exception of those functions that required particular maintenance interventions or internal redistribution of the spaces.

A M P US L INK 05 Cproject for the new school of architecture Academic project location: year: professor:

Plaza Ejido, Malaga. 2017 Ciro Sebastiรกn de la Torre Fragoso.

The project borns from the intention to put in direct contact the reality of plaza Ejido with the rest of the area belonging to the university campus. The proposal is to generate a public passage at the foot of the building that could represent a new crossing and meeting place. The new square that is being built has large staircases that can be used not only to reach the auditorium but also as a seat for student recreation. Around the square there are areas of interest for all students on campus: the library, the cafeteria, the copy shop etc. while in the two upper arms of the building we find the classrooms dedicated to theoretical lessons and laboratories, linked together through a connection area located at the ends of the building.

O R TO NA’ S THR E A D 06 Cworkshop: Cortona 3D Academic project location: year: professors: team:

Cortona. 2016 Gianluca Vita. Nicolò Croce, Alessandro Dorlini, Isabella Flore, Benedetta Gatti, Carlotta Olivari.

The system of installations designed in the small city of Cortona, located in Tuscany, is conceived as part of a “game” that anyone can takes part. A dense urban fabric, narrow and winding streets characterize the city of Cortona. The impression one gets is that of loss and disorientation while being surprised by unexpected views, interesting and special details at every turn. This quality has inspired the comparison with the labyrinth and consequently the legend of Ariadne’s thread. We digitalized the thread by integrating a game with an app and putting different sensors throughout the city that communicate with this by providing clues to the player. The aim is to encourage who visits Cortona to chose alternative ways, different from the main avenue located in the center of the city. At the same time it invites to explore the city not only through observation but with the use of all five senses and providing a more complete knowledge and understanding. The sensors, through sensory experience, will drive the player throughout the city and finally lead him into one of the five pavilions located at the ends of the village and dedicated to one of the five senses. These pavilions host other activities and present themselves as a meeting point not only for the visitors but also for the inhabitants of the city. Cortona becomes a smart city that communicates and is likely to be rediscovered in all its facets.
