FINDING A JOB THAT CHANGED MY LIFE "I look forward to coming to work each day. I love the people I work with and seeing the end result of my work at the end of the day puts a smile on my face." By Diane

DIANNE Full Time, Clean Works GRADUATE OF: Pathways' Property Maintence Training Program (PMT)

B

efore coming to Pathways, I was overwhelmed with stress from trying to make ends meet.  Raising 3 boys as a single mom on Ontario Works and trying to provide the best for them was a daily struggle. I did volunteer work and had some cleaning jobs on the side, but it wasn't enough to make ends meet.

that would support my family, so PMT was the perfect fit.

I was referred to Pathways by my Ontario Works caseworker, and decided to take the PMT Course. At that point in my life I was shy, nervous and quiet. My goal was to get a full-time cleaning job

Today, 4 years later, I still work for Clean Works full time. For me it is the perfect job. I look forward to coming into work very day.

I absolutely loved the course! The two months in the course gave me great experiences and showed me that I am capable of anything. It was a great learning experience, and after I was offered a job at Clean Works!

I love the people I work with everyone is awesome, and seeing the result of my work at the end of the day puts a smile on my face.

"My job at Clean Works means the world to me" "Dianne went from a timid woman who sat in the back of the class, to a confident woman who smiles each day she comes into work." - Becky Strong, Clean Works

Dianne's Advice Don't give up. The staff at Pathways care about you and your success. They are always there to help you with whatever you need. My second piece of advice is Hire Clean Works! We have many services that we can tailor to your site's needs. To the many companies who already hire Clean Works Thank you for making my job possible!

Dianne's Key Takeaway A key lesson I learned was that when you're stuck in life there are solutions and people who care. The PMT course gave me the inspiration I needed!

My Favourite Inspirational Quote "Laughter Is The Best Medicine" "At the start of the PMT course Dianne was timid and didn’t say much, but as course went on she gained more and more confidence After graduation she secured a position at Clean Works and has been with us for almost 4 years.   We have had some companies mention that they wouldn’t want anyone else cleaning their facility because Dianne does such a good job.   You will always see a smile on Dianne’s face. She is a very positive, dependable and hardworking member of our team - and it wouldn’t be the same without her. "

Becky is the Director of Clean Works. Becky talks about what Clean Works means to her and how she began her journey. What led you to become the Director of Clean Works? My experience before coming to Pathways was in the facilities maintenance field.  Working with Clean Works was different in that it was obviously about the cleaning industry but more importantly, it was about investing in people.  The concept of working with people to help them improve and learn new skills and gain confidence was what set this apart from any other kind of facilities company.  I started as the first employee of Clean Works and did a lot of work on the sites, driving the power washer, operating the equipment along side of the staff that I hired to work with me.  After the company increased in size we were able to hire an operations assistant which allowed me to work more with the customers and contracts and progress to the role of Director.

Why do you like working at Pathways/ Clean Works? Pathways is a positive and inspiring environment where you can see people change their lives. Working at Clean Works gives me the extra advantage of seeing people throughout a longer journey, to a place where they become people who believe in themselves and their abilities and make bright futures for themselves and their families.

FAVOURITE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE “If it doesn’t challenge you – it won’t change you” This is a motto for me in work and personal life. I often work best outside of my comfort zone, as much as it is a scary place. I honestly think that is true for most people.

Is there a story of a staff member who has had an impact on you? The story of Sam. Sam  is a young woman who came to us with potential but not a lot of experience.  I watched Sam grow into a professional, strong,  and determined leader who could manage people and industry cleaning standards. Not only did she learn how to deal with conflict she also started to praise her accomplishments and believe in herself.  She went from being unemployed to managing a crew in a different city complete with facility and staff challenges.  At the beginning, she needed guidance for even the smallest decision or change to a schedule, and near the end she was beyond capable of taking care of the day to day operations of her site complete with staff and schedule issues and client challenges.  Sam was hired on by a new company in an even larger capacity and she excelled,  as I knew she would.
