שדח המ MAH HADASH
WINTER 2024–2025

Winter at PAS brings new programs, diverse worship options, and the celebration of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, beginning Dec. 25.
The annual Shabbaton will be Jan. 24-25 and will examine, in depth, the state of affairs on American college campuses that have found themselves in the middle of turbulent debate amid a rise in antisemitism since the Oct. 7 attacks.
The Men's Club and Women's Network have full calendars of events, and Young Families can connect through their own events and the Penn Early Childhood Center.
Our new website launched, offering an enhanced user experience that’s easier to navigate, faster to browse, and filled with new features. Check the online calendar for full listings and take a class, come hear a guest speaker, or talk parenting with the Cosgroves while sipping cocktails. There’s something for everyone.
EVERY SHABBAT
WORSHIP
It’s always perfect when family and friends come together to celebrate Shabbat and holidays. At Kabbalat Shabbat, on Shabbat and holiday mornings, and at weekday Minyan, we read Torah, learn from our rabbis, sing with our cantors, comfort our mourners, and pray together from wherever we are.

Judaism Is About Love

SESSION 3

‘Burning Psalms: Confronting Adonai after Auschwitz’
WED / JAN 15 / 7:00 PM / 87TH ST AND ONLINE
RABBI SHAI HELD AND RABBI COSGROVE
Upending the centuries-long misinterpretation that Christianity is the religion of love and Judaism is the religion of law, Rabbi Shai Held offers the radical and moving argument that love belongs just as much to Judaism. Blending intellectual rigor, a respect for tradition and the practices of a living Judaism, and a commitment to the full equality of all people, Held shows that love is a part of Jewish faith, and brings to life the Jewish perspective on injustice and protest, grace, chosenness, family life, responsibilities to our neighbors, and even our enemies.

WED / JAN 22 / 6:30 PM / 87TH ST AND ONLINE
MENACHEM Z. ROSENSAFT AND RABBI COSGROVE
Menachem Rosensaft’s Burning Psalms laments, accuses, rages, weeps, and yet, somehow, still addresses God. The son of two Auschwitz survivors, Rosensaft imagines the voice of his older brother, Benjamin, who perished in the gas chambers before Menachem was born. His 150 psalms are masterful recreations of the original texts, turning praise into dirges, festivals into mourning – until subtly suggesting a hint of comfort through the mere fact of their existence.
