This year, in 2018, the Earth Day was observed in April 2018 with “End Plastic Pollution” as the central theme, while central theme for the World Environment Day 2018 is “Beat the Plastic Pollution”. Keeping in tune with these themes related to pollution due to plastics, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal had organized a workshop on how to make paper bags as an alternative to plastic bags at Sterling Talent Solutions located at Ghodbunder Road in Thane on Saturday, 18th May, 2018. The resource person for this workshop was Mrs. Suvarna Bange who is in charge of the workshops for Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal. She was assisted by Mrs. Pournima Shirgaonkar. Mrs. Bange demonstrated how 3-4 different types of paper bags can be made out of paper. Total 45 employees from the company participated in this hands on activity and enjoyed a lot. Shreyas Desai and Akansha Rana were the coordinators from Sterling Talent Solutions and extended valuable cooperation.
Eco-Film Club Infotainment Eco-Film Club Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal organizes screening of the environmental ﬁlms and documentaries under the banner of Eco Film Club on the ﬁrst Saturday of every month. Accordingly, a ﬁlm show was arranged on Saturday, 5th May, 2018 by Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal on the theme related to biodiversity. The ﬁlms that were screened included 'Nagzira', 'Western Ghats-Economic Lifeline of India', 'Devrai' (Sacred Forests), 'The Asiatic Lion' and 'Life of Birds in India'. 15 people attended the ﬁlm screening. They all enjoyed the ﬁlms. Screening was followed by an interactive session which was facilitated by Ms. Pournima Shirgaonkar. Audience engrossed in viewing the lms during the Eco lm club event
Devrai Aﬀoresta on Project On Saturday, 19th May, 2018, Mrs. Gayatri Khedekar paid a visit to the Devrai project at Runde village. She is Head of the Human Resources at Cipla Pharmaceutical company in Mumbai. She was accompanied by her husband Mr. Kumar Khedekar. Mrs. Sangita Joshi, Dr. Kalpana Joshi and Dr. Sanjay Joshi from Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal were also present on this occasion. Sangita Joshi briefed the visitors about the project. A short trail through the forest was organized under the guidance of Mr. Suhas Pawar, Coordinator, Devrai Project. Mrs. Khedekar appreciated the magnitude of the project and commended the efforts of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal to develop and protect the forest.

Green Shoppe The Greenshoppe had organised a training for volunteers from the 2nd May to the 7th May 2018. The training mainly focused on explaining various aspects of Green shoppe and marketing strategies. Total 8 participants from different sectors attended the training. They were briefed about all the products and how Green Shoppe procures these products from different sources across India. Also, there was a discussion on the future projects of Green Shoppe. Two resource persons Ms. Anjana Devasthale & Ms. Rupali Shaiwale conversed with the participants on different aspects like gardening and entrepreneurship. All the volunteers liked the objective of the green shoppe. An exhibition and sale of the Green Shoppe products was organized in the Thane Station Post Ofﬁce, station branch on 14th May 2018. The volunteers form the training programme extended their support for this exhibition. Now, Green shoppe has started selling products online through its website www.envirovigil.org and has put a few products on the site.

Green Lovers Club Green Lovers Club is one of the initiatives of the Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal under which various short courses are conducted throughout the year to provide hands on experience and training to the participants. Under this activity, a ﬁeld visit was arranged on 12th May, 2018 at Go Green Nature Center, Barapada near Panvel. Total 12 members of the club participated in this ﬁeld visit. They were accompanied by Dr. Manasi Joshi, (Coordinator of the GLC), Mrs. Sangita Joshi, (Secretary, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal) and Mrs. Nishtha Raut, (Project Coordinator at Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal). After reaching the destination in the morning and after having a breakfast the participants went for a hands on experience of pottery. A live demonstration and hands on training was organized at the venue. This was followed by a nature trail through Go Green. The expert resource person was Dr. Nandan Kalbag, a (renowned Horticulturist). This trail was followed by Dr. Kalbag's presentation on the ferns. Post lunch visit to a nearby Yusuf Meher Ali Center was equally enriching. Participants were

demonstrated how different types of ecofriendly articles are made. The ﬁeld visit was concluded later in the afternoon. Mr. Sanket Shelar of Go Green was quite helpful in coordinating these visits.

Nature Trail around Jail Talav In the morning of 6th May, 2018,a nature trail was arranged by Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal around a lake popularly known as the Jail Talav as it is located near the Central Jail in Thane. The objective of this trail was to identify and learn about the trees in this area. The trail started form Court Naka and terminated around the lake. There were total 9 participants in the trail. Mrs. Pournima Shirgaonkar was the resource person for this trail. The participants were enriched with knowledge and experience of getting close to the trees in their natural surroundings. Green Living Consultancy (GLC) On 19th May 2018, , Enviro vigil Green living consultancy conducted a session on Urban Farming at Paryavaran Shala. Mrs. Pournima Shirgaokar facilitated session from 5.00 P.M. to 7.00 P.M. Mrs. Nistha Raut started session by introducing Enviro vigil. Pournima brieﬂy explained the need of urban farming and its importance. She also explained how to select locations within the houses or society premises for Urban Farming. Pournima gave a presentation on various tools and techniques that can be used for Urban Farming. Total 17 participants attended this session. They were very happy about the proceedings of this session. On 19th May 2018 Mumbai Grahak Panchayat had organized a session on Plastic Waste Management at Vile Parle. Prof. Vidyadhar Walavalkar was the resource person for this session. Approximately 46 people were present for this session.

On 25th May 2018,Mumbai Grahak Panchayat had organized a session on Environment and Waste Management at Samanvay Bunglow, Thane (W). Total 20 participants attended the session. Mrs. Pournima Shirgaonkar from Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal and Mrs. Swati Tillu from Grahak Panchayat facilitated the session. Mrs. Varsha Burke, Mrs. Bhave and Mrs. Luman organized the session. During this session Pournima explained how we can save natural resources at ground level and also she explained waste segregation chart. Mrs. Tillu explained the function of the Magic Bucket. Nisargayan at Mamnoli ParyavaranDakshata Mandal has set up a Bio Resource Center called Nisargayan at Mamnoli about 15 kilometers from Kalyan on Kalyan- Murbad highway. Mr. Shri Tare who is the Coordinator at this center celebrated the World Honeybees Day on 20th May, 2018. The visitors including the Central railways employee Mr. MrigeshGohil and others were greeted with live honey bees and instead of running away from the bees, they eventually became friendly with these beautiful insects. Mr. Tare has set up artiﬁcial bee boxes at Nisargayan where the honey bees construct their nest, that is Bee hive. Then products like honey in its original, purest form can be harvested without disturbing or destroying the bees. Apart from this, other commercially most important product, bees wax can also be extracted from this. Celebration of “World Bee” keeping day.
