Paryavaran Shala This Gudi Padwa’s Main Mantra‘Solid Waste Management’

Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO’s Thane Team Along With Other Participants At The Gudi Padwa Rally At Thane

O n 18th March 2018, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO participated in New Year Swagat Yatra rally which was organised by Kaupineshwar Sanskrutik Nyas on the occasion of Gudi Padwa. The NGO designed a Chitra Rath with the theme of 'Solid Waste Management'. Small models & exhibits with the theme of 8 R's Refuse, Repair, Remake, Rethink, Resource, Refill, Recycle & Reuse were exhibited on the float. Various slogans were written on these models. Four thousand paper bags were distributed in the rally to spread the message of banning plastic bags. Fifty organisations participated in this New Year Rally. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO's float design concept was awarded third prize. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's entire team, members of Green Lovers Club & volunteers worked very hard for the successful completion of this event. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO's Kalyan Unit & Rotary Club of Kalyan participated in a similar Swagat Yatra – Kalyan 2018 organized by Kalyan Sanskriti Manch. Rtn. Yakub Bhetasiwala (President – Rotary club of Kalyan), Rtn. Hycenth Bhetasiwala (Rotary club of Kalyan), Rtn. Kashyap Raja, Rtn. Jitesh Kariya & their team attended Swagat Yatra & actively participated in it. Sixty volunteers of M.J.B.K. School & Millenium School with their teachers also helped in successful organization of this rally. In a recent mishap Adharwadi dumping ground caught fire. To highlight this event & to create awareness of solid waste management among citizens of Kalyan, the theme of 'Waste Management' was chosen for ChitraRath. Pamphlets of 'Swachh Kalyan' were also distributed by Rotary Club of Kalyan. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO’s Dombivli Unit & Ganesh Mandir Sansthan, Dombivli conducted various awareness sessions on solid waste management & other events before Gudi Padwa celebrations. Ms. Rupali Shaiwale (Incharge-Dombivli Paryavatran Shala,Ms. Nishtha Raut (Project Coordinator -Kalyan, Ms. Hemangi Samant(Project Coordinator-, Mr. Suhas Pawar(Project CoordinatorDevrai) worked toward the successful completion of these events in Kalyan & Dombivli. The objective of this celebration was to educate people during festival time to manage their solid waste effectively by being a conscious consumer & celebrate Eco Friendly Gudi Padwa. One thousand four hundred & twenty participants participated in these awareness sessions. For more details please see annexure on page 5

Paper Bags Replace Plas c Bags On 7th March 2018, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO conducted a paper bag making workshop at Joshi-Bedekar College, Thane. Eighty students of Second year B.A. & B. Com attended this session. Prof. Pradnya Rajebahaddur (Lecturer at Bedekar College) arranged this session. Ms. Pournima Shirgaonkar (Inchare-GLC) & Ms. Suvarana Bange conducted a demonstration of making bin bag. The students made hundred paper bags & fifty bin bags & donated the bin bags to Paryavaran Shala. The objective of this workshop was to teach students to make reusable bags of biodegradable material as plastic bags are hazardous to environment.


Infotainment Through Eco Film Club

On 3rd March 2018, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO's Aapala Paryavaran Eco Film Club conducted a documentary film screening session at Paryavaran Shala, Thane. Short Documentaries on environment subject were screened in this two hour session. There was a discussion after every documentary. Ms. Sudeshna Puntambekar (Incharge-Eco Film Club & Editor & Designer Of Aapala Paryavaran Monthly Online Newsletter) conducted this session. Fourteen people attended it. The objective of such an eco film club was to educate the audience about the contribution they can do at grassroot level to conserve environment. Another objective was to motivate people to conduct such sessions in their colleges/schools.

Eminent Scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar (Former Director Of BARC) Planting A Sapling In Devraee

On 25th March 2018, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO celebrated it's first anniversary of Devrai at Runda & 21st March being 'World Forest Day' the celebration was even more euphoric. Eminent scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar (Former Director Of BARC), Mr. Rajendra Kadam (Chief Forest Conservator), Mr. Kishore Thackeray (Public Forest Division Conservator), Mr. Anil Thackeray(Consultant for Devrai & Retired Sub Divisional Forest Conservator), Ms. Sangeeta Joshi (General Secretary-Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal), Dr. Mansi Joshi (Botanist & Treasurer-Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal), Dr. Vikas Hajirnis( President-Enviro Vigil), Mr. Vidyadhar Walavalkar & Dr. Raghunandan Athalye (Vice-President Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal) graced the occasion. The event was inaugurated by planting saplings in Devrai by the Chief Guest, members of Green Lovers Club, etc.The Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Kadam said that planting trees is not just working towards making a forest but building an entire ecosystem. Mr Anil Thackeray spoke about the amazing result of the trees planted four years from now. Dr. Anil Kakodkar congratulated Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's efforts of making Devrai. He also stated that a laboratory can be set up in this area. He further stated that employment can be generated in future for local people because of various activities in Devrai. After this, 'Aapala Paryavaran' magazine & a book that documented all the work accomplished in Devrai was published by the dignitaries. Mr. Suhas Pawar (Project Coordinator-Devrai) gave information of the various activities of Devrai & emphasized that further plantations in Devrai will continue to be of indigenous species. Mr. Vidyadhar Walavalkar concluded the event with vote of thanks. All employees of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal took efforts for the successfull completion of this event.

Nisargayan Nature Enthusiasts Visit Nisargayan

On 9th March 2018, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO's Nisargayan centre conducted a visit for Bedekar College of Commerce, Thane to their Mamnoli centre. Fifty students participated in this visit. Mr. Shree Tare & Mr. Subhash Isame (Project CoordinatorMamnoli/Nisargayan) facilitated this visit. On 25th March 2018 eminent scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar (Former Director Of BARC) visited the Nisargayan centre after attending the inaugural function of first anniversary of Devrai. He saw the working model of small bio gas set up & honey bee box & appreciated the effort of conservation of honeybees by Nisragayan team. The great scientist Albert Einstein said “If the honeybee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” Fifty other visitors also visited the centre on the same day & went home with memories of conservation to cherish.


Bhatkanti Nature Trail At The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary From 1st -4th March 2018 Paryavaran

Dakshata Mandal NGO conducted a n a t u r e t r a i l a t D a n d e l i Wi l d l i f e Sanctuary, Karnataka. Around one hundred & forty six endemic bird species were seen during this trip along with different types of mammals, reptiles & insects too. Six people participated in the trail. Mr. Avinash Bhagat (Bird Expert) conducted the nature trail. The objective of this nature trail was to bring people closer to the biodiversity of Karnataka.

Green Lovers Club Green Lovers Club’s Session On ‘Bulbous Plants’ On 10th March 2018, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO's Green Lovers Club conducted a session on 'Bulbous Plants' at Paryavaran Shala, Thane. Dr. Mansi Joshi (Botanist & Treasurer –Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal) was the facilitator of this session. She conducted a power point presentation & demonstration of Bulbous plant & explained their various forms. Seventeen people attended this session. The objective of this session was to acquaint people about the ornamental 'Bulbous Plants' as they add beauty to home gardens. Green Living Consultancy (GLC) Cook Nutri ous Food In ‘Solar Cooker’

On 17th March 2018, Enviro Vigil's Green Living Consultancy conducted a session on

technologies) facilitated the session. He discussed the functions of Solar Cooker, it's advantages with a demonstration. The objective of this session was to make the people aware of alternative, sustainable, cost effective energy resources for environment conservation. Ms. Shreelata Menon (InchargeGreen Shoppe & Ms. Pournima Shirgaonkar (Incharge –GLC) co-ordinated this session. Twenty people participated in this session.

Green Shoppe Friendship Bonds With Natural Holi Colours Of Green Shoppe On 3rd March 2018, Green Shoppe set up a stall which focused on natural colours for holi & celebrated holi at Sulochanadavi Singhania School, Thane. A group of Denmark students under the International Student Exchange Program of SMT. Sulochanadavi Singhania School joined the natural colour holi celebration. Twenty two Danish girls & boys & twenty two Indian celebrated holi in Singhania School.The Danish students also made a painting with the same colours depicting the bond of friendship. On 17th March another stall of Green Shoppe was set up during a session of Solar Cooker at Paryavaran Shala. Twenty five participants visited the stall. The objective of Green Shoppe is to motivate people to buy natural products as they are biodegradable & do not contain harmful chemicals. The Danish Students Made A Painting With Eco Friendly Holi Colours Depicting The Bond Of Friendship At Sulochanadavi Singhania School, Thane.
