Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal Celebrated It's 18 Foundation Day At Thane On 9th July 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO celebrated its 18th Foundation day with great zeal at the Dnyanaraj Hall, Panchpakadi, Thane (W). Mr. Tushar Kulkarni (Special Guest-giraffe expert) & Mr. Kishore Thakre (Guest of Honour-forest conservator) were invited as guests of honour. The butterfly man of India, Mr. Isaac Kehimkar & famous writer Ms. Veena Gavankar also graced the occasion. Dr. Sanjay Joshi & other dignitaries published the Aapala Paryavaran Magazine. Mr. Vidyadhar Walavalkar (Vice-President Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal) gave an overview about activities & projects of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal. A detail presentation on the activities of Paryavaran Shala was conducted by Ms Rupali Shaiwale (Incharge-Dombivli Unit) & Ms. Shreelata Menon (Incharge-Green Shoppe) was conducted by the NGO team. Ms. Sangita Joshi (General Secretary-Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal) delivered a lecture & power point presentation of ongoing Devrai project at Runda (near Titwala). An appeal was made to the audience to become a part of 'Devrai plantation project'. Mr. Tushar Kulkarni gave detailed information about giraffes, their habitat & need to conserve them by screening some videos . Mr. Kishore Thakre suggested that the organization should implement strategic programs through the Thane Municipal Corporation & expand its workforce. Famous writer Ms. Veena Gawankar, said that environment conservation should be practiced in our day to day life activities. After speeches of Dr. Purushottam Kale (President –Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal) & Dr. Vikas Hajirnis (President-Enviro Vigil), Adv. Pravartak Pathak (Director –Enviro Vigil) concluded the program by extending heartfelt gratitude to every individual. A Green Shoppe stall was set up at the premise & it got an excellent response. Around a hundred & fifty people attended this event.

Take Home An Ecofriendly Ganesh Murti This August

On 17th July, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal conducted a Power Point Presentation on eco friendly Ganpati at Gajanan Vidyalaya, Kalyan (W).Fifty students & two teachers attended this session. On 22nd July Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal conducted a workshop of making ecofriendly Ganesh Murtis at Ganesh Mandir, Dombivli. Artists like Mr. Ganesh Adwal, Ms. Priyanka Gade Ganesh Murti Worshop at Ganesh Mandir

& Ankush Gade guided the participants. Twenty five people attended this workshop. The objective of this workshop was to educate people to celebrate ecofriendly Ganesh Utsav to reduce water pollution during immersion of the idols. The idols made during this workshop will be worshipped during the festival. Ms. Rupali Shaiwale, Ms. Nishtha Raut & Ms. Hemant Samant conducted this workshop.


Convert ‘Nirmalya’ Into Manure On 13th July Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal conducted eight sessions about ‘Nirmalya’ management at Madhavi college. Dried flowers & other religious offerings are termed ‘Nirmalya’. The Nirmalya that was collected from the participant’s homes was sent to Ganesh Mandir Sansthan’s Nirmalya Management Centre. Ms. Rupali Shaiwale & Ms. Hemangi Samant conducted

these sessions. The objective of this session was to educate people that ‘Nirmalya’ can be converted into manure, which is a rich economic resource. Around four hundred students attended this session.

World Mangrove Day Celebrated With Zeal At B.N. Bandodkar College Of Science, Thane

On 24th July 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO celebrated World Mangrove Day, organized at B.N. Bandodkar College Of Science. This event was organized in association with Association Of Teachers in Biological Sciences (A.T.B.S.). The objective of this event was to create awareness among people about the need & importance for conserving mangroves that are coastal guards. Mr. N. Vasudevan (Chief Conservator Forest- Mangrove Cell Mumbai) was the Chief Guest of this event. Prof. Clara Correia explained the importance of mangroves at global level & the threat they possess. Mr. N. Vasudevan stated the future role of Mangrove Cell for conservation of mangroves of Thane Creek. He also stated that ecotourism will start in full swing in Than Creek. Dr. Madhuri Pejavar (Principal B.N. Bandodkar) appealed to the students to do mangrove plantation in a scientific manner. She said that the thesis of students on mangrove conservation can be applied at grassroot level. Dr. Prasad Karnik (Coordinator of Mumbai University-Thane Subcentre) spoke about the future prospects of careers in environment. He explained the

transformations the mangroves underwent from the past few years. Mr. Vidyadhar Walavalkar (Vice-President of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO) gave detail information about 'Clean Creek Movement' which is a mass movement practiced from the past ten years. He urged students to becme a part of it.A documentary film on Thane Creek, ‘Treasured Wetlands Of Thane’ was screened. It portrayed the biodiversity of Thane Creek, pollution issues & solution to pollution issues. Solid waste management at source & secondary treatment of sewage water in decentralised sewage treatment plants set up in some localities were some of the solutions given in the film to reduce water pollution in the creek. It also explained the role of ‘Clean Creek Movement’ & the NGO’s role in Wetland Conservation. An exhibition on biodiversity of Thane Creek was conducted in the college premise. Around a hundred & fifty people attended the session.

Presentation At Sharda Mandir On Pros & Cons Of The Use Of Plastic

In the month of July, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal’s, Paryavaran Shala organized various awareness programmes on the pros & cons of plastic at various schools in Dombivli & Kalyan . In some schools power point presentations were also conducted . As 3rd July was 'carry bag free day' awareness was spread about the harmful effects of plastic in day to day life when it is mismanaged. Ms. Sans from Nutan Vidyalaya, Kalyan (E), initiated the activity to get cloth bags stitched by parents. These bags will be sold at 'Anand Mela' of their school. The objective of these sessions was to create awareness among students & their families to make cloth bags from old clothes at home. Plastic waste can be reduced by recycling it & by substituting plastic bags with cloth bags. One thousand one hundred & seventy students from different schools attended these sessions. Afforestation Come, plant a tree at Runda... From 5th to 7th July 2017 a huge plantation drive was conducted in Runda Village near Titwala, for Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal’s ‘Devrai’ project. Around two hundred students from Sacred Heart School (Titwala), Gajanan Vidyalaya (Kalyan), Nirmal English School (Titwala) & IES (Titwala) planted saplings in Runda. Each student planted two saplings. Six volunteers from Rotary Club Of Kalyan, eight volunteers from Rotary Club Of Dombivli (W), fifty volunteers from Rotary Club Of Riverside (Kalyan) also joined the plantation drive. On 22nd July , fifty employees of Tata Reality & Infrastructure, one hundred & fifty employees of Incom Tax Dept (Kalyan, Dombivli, Thane) & fifty members of Subodh Samajik Sanstha planted saplings in Runda.

Discover The Monsoon Magic At Matheran On 29th-30th July, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal arranged a naturetrail to Matheran. The objective of this trail was to study the night life of the forest in monsoon. During the night trail many species of reptiles like Green Vine Snakes, Brooks Gecko, amphibians like Indirana species, Participants For The Matheran Nature Trail

arthropods like Forest Crab, birds like Puff throated Babbler & mammals like Malabar Giant Squirell were spotted during the trail. Despite the heavy rainfall due to high altitude, participants enjoyed the sightings during the trip. Reptile expert Mr. Hemant Ware & Mr. Avinash Bhagat guided the participants in this trail.

On 8th July, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal organised Green Lover's Club Paryavaran Shala, Thane. Ms. Hetal Gala (Horticulturist) explained about the basics of pot filling with the help of a diagram. Dr. Mansi Joshi demonstrated to the members the various techniques of caring for hanging basket plants along with a Power Point Presentation. The objective of conducting this workshop was to create vertical gardens in space constrained society. Forty four participants attended this session.
