Students Enjoying The Aapala Paryavaran Film Festival At Gadkari Rangayatan, Thane.
On 4th & 6th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO conducted 8th Aapala Paryavarn Film Festival at Gadkari Rangaytan, Thane. Ms. Aarti Madhankar (CSR Head-Bharat Bijlee), Mr. Prathamesh Kharatmal (Sophiya College), Mr. Mohan Upadhye (Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra) & Mr. Purushottam Kale (PresidentParyavarn Dakshata Madal) graced the inauguration ceremony. The festival screened documentaries which focused on effective resource management. Mr. Prathamesh Kharatmal( from Sophiya College) gave information about sparrow conservation. Mr. Mohan Upadhye & Mr. Shankar Ghadge gave information about the activities of Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra NGO which conserve turtles in Konkan coast. He urged students to join their turtle conservation movement by participating in the 'Turtle Festival' conducted every year. Mr. Hemant Karkhanis (Head Of Mangrove Conservation Project,Godrej), Mr. Nagesh Tekale (Vice-President-Enviro Vigil), Teachers of all the schools also graced this ocassion. Discussion on subjects like waste water management, marine resources, conservation of birds in urban areas, mangrove conservation etc. was conducted after each documentary. Ms. Rupali Shaiwale ( Incharge-Paryavaran Shala – Dombivli) anchored the event & conducted a power point presentation on Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's 'Devrai Afforestation Project, Runda’. Another power point presentation on Green Shoppe was conducted by Ms. Bharti Rokde & Ms. Shreelata Menon (Green Shoppe –Team). Two thousand five hundred students from eighteen schools & three colleges attended this environmental film festival. The objective of this festival was to create awareness towards environment & implement grassroot level solutions towards environmental conservation. On 2nd December 2017, Aapala Paryavaran's Eco Film Club conducted a session of environmental documentary films in Paryvaran Shala, Thane. It was conducted by Ms. Sudeshna Puntambekar (ConsultantEco-Film Club & Editor & Designer Of Aapala Paryavaran Monthly Online Newsletter). Seventeen people attended it. On 12th December, a similar session was conducted by Green Club of RADAV College, Bhandup, in association with Paryvaran Dakshata Mandal. Ms. Pournima Shirgaonkar (Incharge-Green Career Courses) & Ms. Sudeshna Puntambekar fascilitated this event. Ms. Bhagyashree Grampurohit (Asst. Professor Of Environmental Studies ) & Ms. Saroj Tulankar (Prof. Of Business Communication) from RADAV College, helped with the successful completion of this event . Hundred students

On 16th December Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's Paryavaran Shala –Kalyan & Rotary Club of Kalyan conducted 'Nisarga Mela' by conducting various competitions for school students at Shishu Vikas Secondary High School, Kalyan (W). The subject of these competitions was linked to environmental education & awareness. A photography exhibition on animals & waste management was also conducted. It was attended by one thousand
five hundred students & other citiz ens. Mr. Yakub Bhetasiwala(President, Rotary Club of Kalyan), Mr. Hycenth Bhetasiwala (Rotary Club of Kalyan), Dr. Purushottam Kale (President- Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal), Ms. Sangeeta Joshi (Secretary- Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal), Mr. Sushrut Vaidya (Secretary- Rotary Club of Kalyan), Mr. B. M. Shivarraj (RTN & District Govenor, RID 3142), Mr. Milind Kulkarni (District Secretary, Rotary Club of Kalyan) Rtn. Jitesh Karya (RTN, Project Chairperson- Nisargmela), Mr. Kashyap Raja (Member of Rotary Club of Kalyan), Mr. Borole (Principal -Shishu Vikas Secondary School) graced the occasion. Fifteen volunteers from Shishu Vikas Secondary High School also helped in successful organization of this event. Three hundred & fifteen students from twenty one schools participated in this event. Ms. Rupali Shaiwale (Incharge-Paryavaran Shala, Dombivli), Ms. Hemangi Samant (Project Coordinator-Paryavarn Shala, Dombivli, Ms. Nishtha Raut (Project Coordinator-Paryavaran Shala, Kalyan) & other employees of Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal conducted this event. The objective of this event was to engage youth in environmental protection & increase their knowledge towards various facets of environment.
Corporates Of KPIT, Mahape, Enjoy A Paper Bag Making Workshop On 20th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO conducted a paper bag making workshop at KPIT, Mahape, Navi Mumbai. It was facilitated by Ms. Suvrana Bange. Ten employees participated in this workshop. The objective of this workshop was to educate people about the hazards of using plastic carry bags as they are non - biodegradable & substitute them with paper bags.
Nisargayan Nature Trail At Mamnoli, A Biodiversity Spot From 27th -30th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO conducted nature trail & shram daan (voluntary work) at the Nisargayan centre at Mamnoli. Mr. Shree Tare (Project Coordinator -Nisargayan) was the facilitator of this activity. Two hundred & seven students from Raja Shivaji Vidya Mandir, Lokmanya Nagar, Thane participated in this activity. The objective of this activity was to give an opportunity to urban students to serve nature & educate them about the biodiversity at Mamnoli. Devraee Afforestation Project Green Ambassadors Plant Trees In Devraee At Runda

In the month of December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO conducted a number of visits at Devraee for students, senior citizens etc.Mr. Suhas Pawar & Mr. Subhash Isame (Project Coordinators- Devrai) conducted these visits. They explained the 'Devraee Afforestation Project' in detail, the different species of indigenous trees planted in this forest & the process of volunteering work for tree plantation, mulching, water treatment etc. in Devraee. They also gave information about snakes & the misconception & myths regarding snakes. The objective of these activities is to motivate people to plant more tress as deforestation is on a rise. Three hundred & for ty one people visited Davraee. For more details see annexure on page 5.
Bhatkanti Naturetrails At The Magnificent Wetlands Of Thane Creek, Bhigwan & Kumbhargaon Bird Sanctuary & Kacharali Lake

On 3rd December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO organised a nature trail for 'Bird Watching' at Thane Creek 2017. Mr. Hemant Karkhanis (Bird expert) was the facilitator of the trail. Thirteen people participated in this nature trail. The objective of this trail was to acquaint the enthusiastic participants of the two hundred species of birds sighted in Thane Creek. On 16th-17th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal arranged a naturetrail at Bhigwan & Kumbhargaon Bird Sanctuary. Bhigwan is located just beside the Ujani Dam & many villages are spread around its backwaters. This backwater offers very good habitat for wetland birds. Magnificent birds in the backwater habitat at Kumbargaon Village, Sugarcane fields of Dalaj Village & a grassland habitat at Loni-Kalbhor village were sighted. One hundred & twenty one species of birds of wetland & scrubland, mammals & reptiles were sighted in this trail. Bird experts Mr. Avinash Bhagat & Mr. Pravin Vishe guided the participants about the habitat, migration & threats to the wetland birds. On 24th December, another nature trail was organised at Kachrali Lake, Thane. Ms. Anjana Devasthale (Botanist) was the facilitator of this trail. Four participants attended this trail. The objective of this trail was to educate the participants about the local trees, their habitat & the threats they possess in the lake city of Thane.
Green Living Consultancy (GLC) Convert DomesticWet Waste Into A Precious Resource On 16th December 2017, Enviro Vigil's Green Living Consultancy conducted a session on Waste management at Khalasa College. Ms. Pournima Shirgaonkar (Incharge-Green Living Consultancy) facilitated the session. Dr. Charuta Vaidya (HOD, Department of Botany, Khalasa College) co-ordinated the session. Thirty students attended the session. Methods of composting were explained by conducting a power point presentation & the process of domestic wet waste management was also explained by using magic bucket. The objective of this session was to create awareness about wet waste management as it is a precious hygienic economic resource. Due to effective domestic wet waste management, it does not land up in the landfill.
Learn About Birds & Their Habitat On 16th December 2017, Enviro Vigil's Green Living Consultancy conducted a session on 'Birds & their Habitat'. Mr. Ajit Joshi (Bird Expert) facilitated session. He screened a film on birds & conducted a power point presentation that explained the importance of birds. He also disussed grassroot level solutions to conserve birds in local areas etc. Thirty bird enthusiasts participated in this session. The objective of this session was to invoke an interest in urban people about birds as they balance the ecosystem.

On 9th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's Green Lovers Club organised a session on 'Landscaping' at Shriram Vyayam Shala, in front of Gadakari Ranagayatan, Thane (W). Mr. Nandan Kalbag (Horticulturist) of 'Go Green organization facilitated this session.He explained the types of plants required for landscaping & conducted a practical session too. Thirty four participants participated in this session. The objective of this session was to develop interest among urban people in horticulture.
Green Shoppe Green Shoppe For Environment Enthusiasts

On 2nd December 2017, Enviro Vigil set up Green Shoppe stall during Eco Film Club at Paryavaran Shala, Thane. On 4th & 6th December, during the annual film festival, Green Shoppe set up a stall of the environment education publications & conducted a Power Point Presentation at Gadkari Rangayatan, Thane. The Green Shoppe also gave gift hampers to L&T InfoTech Airoli for its foreign visitors. On 15th & 16th2017 December two stalls were set up at the Convergence festival in Somaiya College (Environment
Science Dept) . Around fifty people visited the stall. On 16th December 2017 another stall was set up at Aanad Mela organised by Godrej & Boyce Pvt Ltd. at Vikroli. One of the Directors of the company Mr. Vijay Krishna inaugurated the event & also visited the stall. He appreciated the effort of the Shoppe. More than five hundred people visited the stall at the Aanad Mela.
Ankur Theme Park Visit Visit To Ankur Theme Park, A Natural Key To Urban Environment Restoration In the month of December, visit to Ankur Theme Park was conducted for students of various schools & organisations. Visitors were given information of the various projects in the theme park like Vermicomposting, Biocomposting, Organic Farming, Rainwater Harvesting, Butterfly Garden, Shade Garden, Aquaculture, Medicinal Plants, Magic Bucket etc. The objective of the theme park is to provide a one stop solution to sustainable progress. One hundred & two students & two teachers visited the theme park. For more details see annexure below.
