Arabian Travel Market 2017 welcomed over 2,600 exhibitors with 100 exhibiting for the first time – representing more than 150 countries, across 65 national pavilions. ATM Dubai talked off an in-depth on cruise tourism. With Dubai alone targeting one million cruise tourists by 2020. The cruise experts gave invaluable insight into the growth potential and the steps the region must take to attract more cruise lines. China and India was up for discussion on the ATM Global Stage on how to increase promotional activities to attract more visitors from two of the future’s biggest inbound source markets. Qatar Airways made a host of exciting announcements including its announcement of high-speed

broadband on flights starting this summer, along with a brand new graphic user interface (GUI) for improved usability and a complimentary new entertainment application for early access to thousands of entertainment options, combined with the regional reveal of its impressive and groundbreaking Qsuite.

India – The Largest Growing Outbound Tourism Market Dubai welcomed 1.8 million visitors from India in 2016, up 12.5%, while Abu Dhabi saw almost 323,400 Indian tourists, up 15%, making the South Asian country one of the top source markets for both emirates. India has been named the largest growing outbound tourism market in percentage terms, with the UNWTO predicting 50 million Indians will travel overseas annually by 2020.

More than 300 flights a week already operate between Abu Dhabi and major Indian cities, and in 2016. Etihad Airways announced an expansion of its Indian network through its partner Jet Airways – with the two airlines adding 28 weekly flights and three new destinations. Indian tourists are also making their mark across the Middle East, with rising numbers in Oman and Qatar, among other destinations.

Celebrates Soaring Tourist Arrivals Dubai attracted 4.57 million travelers in the first quarter of 2017, reflecting more than double the growth achieved in the same period last year. The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) figures show an 11% increase in overnight visitation from January to March, with China, Russia and India emerging as key feeder markets. This comes after a record 14.9 million overnight visitors were recorded in 2016, marking a 5% increase on the year before and positioning the Emirate on course to reach its goal of 20 million annual visitors by 2020.
