Issue with Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Trouble Code P0598 OBD-II

What the P0598 code means? P0598 is the OBD-II generic code for a fault involving the thermostat heater control circuit. The thermostat heater is responsible for detecting the temperature of the engine and using that information to dictate the coolant flow through the engine. To ensure that this part is working correctly, the flow of power through the unit it monitored by the power train control module. If this voltage reading is low, the P0598 code will be stored in the OBD-II unit. What causes the P0598 code?

A loose or corroded connector on the thermostat A coolant leak will cause the code to set The thermostat itself has failed A short or open has occurred in the wiring harness between the computer and thermostat The Motronic computer has failed What are the symptoms of the P0598 code? Depending upon the position of the electronically controlled thermostat at the time of failure, symptoms may vary greatly. Should the thermostat fail after the engine has reached normal operating temperature, the chances of any drivability symptoms being noticed are minimal. If the unit fails when the engine is cold, overheating issues could present themselves. If the thermostat fails when the engine is very warm, the amount of time required for the engine to reach normal operating temperature could be extended. Of course, a code should be stored on the first failure and a malfunction indicator lamp will be illuminated after consecutive failures Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0598 code The entire electronic thermostat is frequently replaced when a problem with system circuitry is the real culprit. Technicians report that corrosion caused by leaking engine coolant may cause wiring and connectors to deteriorate and eventually fail. What repairs can fix the P0598 code?
