A great travel readBy Deborah FortunaThis book is such a good read for travellers as well as arm chair travellers. It was a very realistic account of the pitfalls and joys one experiences while travelling,. I highly recommend it.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An Around the World
Tour!By CustomerWhile in their 60's and celebrating a couple of milestones, the author and his wife set off to travel the world with just their hand luggage. From India to Brazil, they visited a number of countries and wrote about their travels in diary form, with photos throughout. Complete with humorous anecdotes, moments of frustration, and engaging descriptions, Cooke and his wife share the remarkable experiences they encountered.I enjoyed Cooke's take on places I have also visited and/or lived in. I especially enjoyed India, and like Cooke, found it to be frustrating, surprising, friendly, poor, and diverse. Bolivia and Peru are still on my bucket list and I read through those chapters first and appreciated the author's accounts of their sometimes hard travels to Machu Pichu and the floating islands.A travelogue and memoir, Old's Abroad is a book that you can refer back to over and over and still find surprising insights about each country visited. Filled with relevant travel information, the book contains the names of good restaurants, hostels, travel companies, and tour packages. The information provided would be helpful to anyone planning to visit the same countries as the authors.I enjoyed Old's Abroad and recommend this informative read to anyone who plans on, or thinks about, taking time off to travel the world.
