Empowering for the Future A New Vision for September 2016 Our mission: Every student to achieve their potential

Aspire

1 Ensuring ‘Aspire ~ Achieve ~ Succeed’ is the reality for all everyone encouraged to aspire for themselves and others, achieve at school and succeed in life. 2 Taking pride in our school community on the part of students, parents and staff, given our reputation for excellence. 3 Upholding a strong sense of tradition based on values that are understood, shared and celebrated within and beyond the school. 4 Developing an inspirational staff team across the school that is collaborative and dedicated, always seeking further improvement. 5 Delivering high-quality lessons so that all students can make good progress in every lesson, every day.

6 Fostering ‘Park View Learners’ which empowers students to take ownership of their education, providing the skills required for college, work and life. 7 Offering a curriculum that meets the needs of all through being rich and varied in every aspect – with extended provision and a highquality and coherent key stage 3 programme. 8 Promoting activities, partnerships and networks that make a real difference for our community. 9 Exceeding national averages in all aspects of attainment and progress. 10 Making rapid progress right from the start so that expectations for year 7 are as high as for year 11.

High quality and extremely dedicated teaching and support staff enable our young people to have the highest expectations of themselves.

Achieve

Our mission is to enable every student to reach their potential. Our examination results show we are succeeding.

Succeed

We prepare our students for life beyond school, whether they are aiming for a place at a top university or an apprenticeship when they leave.

Students’ attitudes in class are consistently good and often exemplary and there is a positive ethos around the school. Ofsted 2013

Our students benefit from personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education that is taught in curriculum and tutor time. By exploring topics such as relationships and personal

finance, our young people develop the confidence to make positive life choices. We nurture all students through personalised support – from special care for our new year 7s right through to careers and further education guidance for year 11s. Our non-teaching Year Team Deputies are focused on pastoral support and some students have been trained as peer mentors. Students and their families have access to exceptional support services at school.

Ofsted 2013

The school understands that students’ happiness is the key to achievement in all areas of learning.

ASPIRE ~ ACHIEVE ~ SUCCEED

Students report few instances of bullying. They say when it does occur it is dealt with by the school. Ofsted 2013

Internationalism has a strong focus and celebrates the languages spoken in the school.

05

We provide a safe learning environment with a firm anti-bullying culture and our staff work hard to make students feel happy, secure and confident. In return, we demand very high standards in terms of homework, behaviour, attendance and uniform. We foster an ethos of respect, which results in a strong sense of community. The school understands that students’ happiness is the key to achievement in all areas of learning.

Support

06

Learning Students show exemplary social, moral, spiritual and cultural development in a supportive and highly cohesive learning community.

Our vibrant curriculum – including a broad range of GCSE and BTEC courses – is designed to spark interest in every child. Teachers provide the right level of challenge for each student, setting personalised targets, monitoring progress and providing additional support when required. We focus on developing independent learning skills so students are ready for further study. We currently have four ex-students at Cambridge University.

Ofsted 2013

Our Performing Arts work enables us to use drama, music and dance to build students’ confidence in a way that benefits all areas of learning. Students participate in creative workshops and productions in school and in the community, and we are proud to have achieved the prestigious Artsmark Gold award. ICT is used innovatively across the curriculum and our school demonstrated by our retention of the ICT Mark. We also use our managed learning environment (MLE) to promote e-learning at school and at home. With a strong focus on literacy, our average class size in English is 22. Our specialist teaching staff ensure that students with English as an additional language or with special educational needs participate fully in the life of Park View. All students are encouraged to become “Park View learners” through the development of independent learning and thinking skills.

To develop students’ interests, aptitudes and team-building skills, we provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These range from Saturday schools, sporting, creative clubs plus pre and post school coursework clubs including a Homework Club.

In 2013 we will be launching a House system by which all students and staff will be allocated to a particular House. This is an exciting initiative which over time will encourage closer collaboration between students within each House and a growing sense of belonging within the School.

ASPIRE ~ ACHIEVE ~ SUCCEED

Our young people know that their opinions count. With an elected school council and year councils, many students get the opportunity to participate in the development of Park View. Open to all years, our student leadership programme gives students responsibilities as translators, supervisors, participants in staff recruitment.

07

Students get the opportunity to enjoy inter-school competitions, educational outings and foreign visits for sporting tours, field trips or develop language skills. Our students relish special theme days such as the school’s international festival, ‘Parkstock’.

Community 08

We work in partnership with families to ensure that students make the best possible progress at Park View. Parents and carers are kept informed through regular newsletters, text messages and the MLE. All our staff are accessible via e-mail, telephone or in person at the school to deal with any concerns. By offering a range of extended services to students, their families and the local community, we contribute to the vitality of the neighbourhood and promote lifelong learning. As well as providing activities outside of school hours and during holiday periods for young people, our site is home to a community Learning Centre, which offers adult education and training courses.

We have strong partnerships with local primary and secondary schools and foster links with a diverse range of businesses to secure visits and work experience placements. Our students are encouraged to celebrate their cultural diversity and develop their global awareness. Staff and students participate in a number of projects with schools worldwide and we are proud to have achieved the full International Schools Award.

A good school with outstanding leadership and management. Ofsted 2013
