Ornamental Shrubs The foundation of the garden, shrubs combine the longevity of trees with the broad ornamental appeal of perennials. Many of today's cultivars are far more compact, floriferous, and vigorous than ever before, offering exceptional color and texture even in small spaces. We are honored to present Wayside gardeners with a selection of the best classic and new varieties. Note: Height and width measurements listed reflect 10 years' growth.

Botanically, all azaleas are rhododendrons, but trade practice calls the smaller-leaved and deciduous types "azaleas". Superb for home plantings, whether large or small. Attractive foliage (often evergreen), excellent habit and gorgeous flowers combine to make them superb for foundation plantings, naturalizing in woodland settings, and for planting in groups througout the landscape. They require little care. Rhododendrons and azaleas are shallow rooted and should not be planted too deeply. Select a location where they are somewhat protected from drying winds and winter afternoon sun. Culture: Cool, moist acid soil (ph 4.5-6.5) is ideal, particularly one that contains a high percentage of organic matter to retain moisture. A coarse mulch, 2 to 3 inches deep helps retain mositure and reduce weeds, eliminating the need to cultivate, which runs the risk of injuring roots near the surface.

Rhododendron 'Camilla's Blush'

Rhododendron 'Camilla's Blush' A vigorous, sweetly fragrant upright selection of the native Piedmont Azalea, this early bloomer boasts large, rounded trusses of shell-pink to nearly white blooms. At times the flowers anticipate the foliage, and their large, bright pink buds are always prominent on bare stems in the winter garden. Content in dappled sun or partial shade in all but the most northern sites, ‘Camilla’s Blush’ colonizes over time, slowly spreading by stolons into a magnificent planting. Selected by the late native plant authority George Beasley and named for his granddaughter. 1-gallon container. Cannot ship to WA. Z 5-9 | early/mid-spring | part shade | H: 10-15', W: 8'

Bred by master hybridizer Tony Shammarello in Cleveland, Ohio, it is hardy to -15° F. Displays bold yellow, orange, and red fall foliage. 1-gallon container. Cannot ship to WA.
