efore she was BadGalRiRi: music, fashion and beauty icon, Robyn Rihanna Fenty was a little girl in Barbados transfixed by her mother’s lipstick. The first time she experienced makeup for herself she never looked back. Makeup became her weapon of choice for self-expression- a way to radiate her every changing mood- and it powered a fearless take on beauty that helped her become the boundary-breaking icon she is today. We love how Fenty Beauty products are designed to feel lightweight, even as they deliver buildable coverage that effortlessly layers, to ultimately “make skin look like skin”. Barn//it: The reinvention of the hair appointment

Before

After

I

t’s the North West salon that everyone’s talking about. It boasts a cocktail and bar and as ParentFolk Founder, Nic Spindler, discovered it was about to give her her mojo back. ‘So somewhere between having child 3 and child 4 I lost my mojo. My hair mojo I mean. What was once a hairstyle became a mass of hanging follicles, and depending on the season only varied slightly with either more or less highlights. I had become a hair bore. I rock up to Barn//it, the now infamous John Dalton Street Salon (yes, the one with pink neon glowing in the window) and instantly know

Photography credit: Dom Salter this place is different, there’s a great vibe and a familiar feel. I’m rather partial to a hair salon. For me going to the hairdressers signals two (possibly two and a half) glorious hours to myself. Time to stop, relax, and recharge. I’m introduced to owner, Andrew Trott-Barn, who shares his vision for the salon experience he’s creating. “We want every client to leave having had the Barn//it experience. We do things differently here.” And yes they do. Whilst I’m in the salon there’s a never ending flow of clients coming in for blowdry’s. Colour transformations seem to be the

signature appointment here too. I’m booked in for a complimentary blow dry experience, and it doesn’t disappoint, my limp, in a rush, school run hair, looks glossy and voluminous, and what’s more this magic has been delivered whilst I’ve sat back and enjoyed a cocktail – yes, this is how blow dry appointments should be. Then comes my brave question “So Andrew, if you were restyling my hair what would you do?” And just like that there was no going back. Two weeks later and I’m back at Barn//it. I’m booked in with Carmen for the chop. It’s time to bring some style back to this lifeless mumsy hair

and with it a new colour too! Two hours later and I’m a mocha brown brunette with this seasons ‘lob ‘cut. I feel like a new me. My mojo has been found. In summary, yes Barn//it is a great city centre salon that provides a unique sanctuary to relax and recharge, but more than this it’s a place that gives a mum, soon to hit 40, the chance to reinvent herself. Thank you Barn//it. For appointments and to find out about the host of pamper packages on offer visit: www.barnit.co.uk
