Since Mike Sinyard started Specialized Bicycle Components in 1974 with the money he got from selling his VW van, the company has helped shape cycling in America and around the world. Starting as an importer of rare European cycling components, Sinyard progressed to addressing rider needs with Specialized’s first branded product; the Turbo tire. Specialized has grown up in the birthplace of mountain biking and immersed in some of the best road riding in the country – when we’re looking for inspiration, it’s never too far away. Each and every piece of performance equipment we create is shaped by who we are, where we live and by the riders around the world who make what we do the best job in the world. And when it comes to setting our bikes and equipment apart from anything else out there, Specialized has always counted on our biggest advantage over the competition—our people. We don’t just hire the best people we can find to do what they do, we go out of our way to hire people who bring something else to the table. The diverse experience our people have in competitive cycling, motocross, and other sports plays a huge role in understanding what riders are looking for, which helps give us the edge on the competition—and gives us lots of great people to ride with.
