ADAPTED RECREATION

Adapted Gymnastics (Adv) (4-9 Yrs)

ADAPTED RECREATION Recreational and Social Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities Adapted Recreation programs are designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities from 12 months to over 60 years of age. Adapted Recreation staff is composed of certified special education teachers, certified paraprofessionals, and volunteers, who are on hand for most programs to assist and encourage the individuals as needed. Any individuals requiring assistance with matters not directly related to the activities and needing assistance with toileting and feeding must bring a chaperone/aide. For information please contact Dianne Dillon at 972-941-7272.

This class is for athletes ages 4 to 9 who are successful at basic tumbling and gymnastics skills. Please see instructor for approval before registering. Gymnastics provides a multitude of benefits for children with special needs, as it challenges the brain to work in connection with the body as the child becomes physically stronger. Some of the skills this class will focus on include cartwheels, round-offs, front and back walkovers, chin up pull overs, back hip circles, and more. All of these activities aim to help improve the student’s motor skills and confidence as well as their ability to follow directions.
