Recycle cardboard the crafty way with stylish new storage from Sarah Jackman Read

W

ith the last bank holiday weekend of the year coming up next month (sob!), use your free time wisely and give unruly craft bits and bobs their own papercrafted home. Not only is Sarah Jackman Read’s project a talking point in itself, but it’s great for using up cardboard that would have otherwise gone to waste. We can’t get enough of the patchwork effect Sarah has created – it’s the shabbiest, chicest way to upstyle your craft room, while also saving the environment.

You Will Need  Craft essentials (see p92)  First Edition Deco Mache papers: Green Polka, Pink Foliage, White Wood, Garden Bloom  First Edition Deco Mache Gloss: Adhesive, Varnish  Papermania Bellissima Charm Pack  Cardboard box: 17cm x 23cm  Three cereal boxes: 625g  Acrylic paint: white 1 Undo the base flap on an empty cereal box and fold it flat. Cut the box in half widthways using a steel ruler and craft knife. Measure 8cm from the base fold and score a line along. Cut down the corners to this score line and fold the four flaps to the inside. Repeat

on the other half of the box to create two 8cm-deep drawers. 2 Secure the flaps with double-sided tape and strengthen the bottom of each drawer with glue. Cut a piece of cardboard to line the base and stick down. Repeat steps 1 and 2 twice for a total of six drawers, paint them white and leave to dry. 3 Use a ready-made cardboard box or build the housing with panels of cardboard. To do this, fix the sides together with strong tape and add a cardboard back, securing all joins with a glue gun. 4 Rip up pieces of Green Polka decoupage paper.
