At least the basics of music To further help you with songwriting you should learn to play an instrument. There are many popular choices. These choices include piano or guitar. These instruments are great for songwriting because these instruments allow you to play both melodies and chord progressions. Also, for melody writing, the voice is a great instrument to use. The voice is a great instrument that has the added advantage of combining the words and music together.

Getting Started At some point you will write a song. Songwriting can be fun and rewarding. But as with many things in life it will require work and discipline in order to be successful.
