WHAT ABOUT ME?

WHO I AM I was always detail-oriented. I’d recall a person’s outfit quicker than the interaction with them. My love for fashion was undeniable. Coming face to face with the industry I discovered I was cheated on by the media’s representation (perhaps it was lust?) and soon found myself switching gears. I learned of my other interests that had been lingering for so long. I became in tune with this new self I didn’t know existed. Research, synthesis, analysis, & communication...

I learned of my other interests that had been lingering for so long. I became in tune with this new self I didn’t know existed. Research, synthesis, analysis, & communication... I have a passion for being different and innovationally (sic) driven; I consider myself an intern absorbing what it takes to be a leader. At this point I find myself at an intersection between business, law, and fashion. The idea of what drives a business is appealing however, knowing how to exercise legal matters within the business sector is just as exciting. I may not know the exact path though it is only a matter of time before it makes itself clear.

RESEARCH

I remember going to church as a child and thinking I had a problem because all I could do was focus on the beauty of the art on the ceilings.

RESEARCH

PROJECT: POP-UP LEARNING

DETAILING PROJECTING REPRESENTING

Focused on the city of New York and bettering the educational system to promote that children experiment more with “the right side” of their brain. One of my challenges was to focus on the financial side of the equation. To whom would we appeal for funds? What steps were we to take? What were the existing entities providing access to funds and what did we need to do to get to them? Our program depended upon financing. While researching, I felt the importance of stressing our purpose to further our options of entities willing to invest.

RESEARCH

PROJECT: SUSHI TRUCK START-UP

CALCULATING PROJECTING EXPANDING

Food on the go is quite popular in New York City, Assigned for a group project, we came up with the idea of introducing a sushi truck located near Union Square. Each member of the group was responsible for a portion of the research. I had the task of indulging in the legal aspects of the project. Part of my research was confirming we met the city’s requirements: I needed to keep track of the types of licenses we were to acquire; the length of time offered per license; the necessary permits and the mandatory courses we needed to take in order to be certified. I was also to calculate the costs behind it all.

PROJECT: THE ESSENCE OF WALKING

DETAILING CLASSIFYING OVERSEEING EVALUATING

A semester-long project with the intention of finding pedestrians’ reasons for how they choose to walk in New York City. Important factors were the pedestrian’s origin, culture, destination, and urgency. How do walkers think about their walking? Are they self-conscience? Do they feel the pressures of having to walk correctly? Where are they trying to go and how fast do they need to be there? The main purpose of the project was to strategically inform the pedestrian of how they could correct their walking in New York City by tapping into their conscience that would speak to them and answer the questions above.

PROJECT: TODAY’S FIRST AMMENDMENT PROTECTION

RESEARCHING REVISING PRESENTING

Project based on a case prevalent in America. I was committed to an in-depth research covering all important conversation relevant to freedom of speech. I took the advise of informing myself on an international level. I integrated my findings to compare with our nation and form a conclusion. I found all types of databases providing an overload of information. I was able to identify what information I needed and what information to discard. To end, a presentation would be created in efforts to visualize my paper.

A final project where I used my knowledge of type and proper placement of information to communicate it in an aestheticallypleasing way. The research consisted on the history of the font family known as Eurostile. PROJECT: EXPERIENCE MAPPING

COMPILING CLASSIFYING INTUITING

Project focusing on measuring my anxiety. Being a person that has always given thought to everything that occurs in the present, the occurred, and what has yet to occur, I walked around with my notebook & pen to give a precise account of my anxiety levels by a system of rating. Additionally, I included my mood for each moment. I Learned what was occurring affected my anxiety but realized my anxiety was greatest due to a past event or a future event I was anticipating; rarely did my anxiety correlate to the present time. Some pairings didn’t make sense, this was because of my tendency to being in one place while my head was in another.

CONCLUSION

Part of the process of finding fulfillment is knowing what you are good at and sticking to that route even if it deviates from the norm. I entered Parsons being fashion-driven and I am leaving Parsons with a completely different vision. It is not to say I do not feel the same way anymore. On the contrary, after having discovered that I can combine my abilities, it will serve as reinforcement and as such open new oppurtunities to achieve career satisfaction - my ultimate goal.

EPILOGUE

To my mother who was and always has been my biggest cheerleader: giving me the confidence to feel that I could achieve it all. And my God... for giving me all that strength even when I didn’t have it in me.
