Father Sabbas Assenga celebrates service jubilee By SHARON BONTHUYS St Augustine’s Parish Church, Narromine, was full last Wednesday, July 9, as beloved church leader Fr Sabbas Assenga celebrated 25 years of service as an ordained priest. Local parishioners from Narromine, Trangie and Peak Hill joined with parishioners from Warren, Cobar and Orange and farther afield to celebrate the special event, which was also attended by several Catholic clergy. The Bishop of the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes, the Most Reverend Columba Macbeth-Green OSPPE DD, officiated at the two-hour special milestone event, which included the celebration of Mass, beautiful music, prayers, hymns, Communion, and ended with an exchange of gifts and presentation of donations to the church. The jubilee service was followed by a light lunch in the St Augustine’s Parish School hall. During the service, those attending learned more about the life of Fr Sabbas and his faithful service to his church and its communities.
