Swimming & Aquatic Activities Pool closure

Slider wants to remind you children under 3 years of age must wear a swim diaper.

Clean pools are fun pools! Keep these things in mind the next time you visit the pool at Panorama: • Showers are required before entering the pools to wash off any dirt and body oils (BC Health Act). • Please use the washroom before entering the pool. •

If you have children, ask throughout the swim if they need to use the washroom.

Parents are strongly encouraged to use swim diapers for their young children. Children under 3 years of age must wear a swim diaper.

Reusable and disposable child-sized diapers can be purchased at reception. If you forget your swim diaper, please ask reception for a sample.

Caregivers are encouraged, where appropriate, to use swim diapers or adult pool pants for their children or clients.

Pool Closures are an inconvenience for everyone. If a pool is closed due to an accident, it may be closed for a half hour or up to 13 hours. It takes a little bit of effort from everyone to keep our pools clean and open! Thank you for your cooperation!

Accessible Waterslide Panorama Recreation offers the only accessible waterslide in North America! The waterslide features an elevator from the pool deck to the top. Breath taking views can be taken in before heading down the waterslide! Patrons who have a disability are now able to enjoy the thrills and joys of riding a waterslide. Swimming & Aquatic Activities Ian Mattock - Olympic Dream Ian Mattock has been employed at Panorama for about 4 years as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Ian spends a lot of his time studying at the University of Victoria working on his Economics degree. Ian also trains more than twenty hours a week preparing for the Olympic Swim trials from March 27th- April 2nd in Montreal; his ultimate goal is to be on the Canadian Olympic Swim Team for London 2012. “I am very excited but nervous at the same time. This is a sort of once in a lifetime event (unless I decide to try for Rio 2016!) and I have put a lot of work towards preparing for this meet so it’s easy to be apprehensive but at the same time I can’t wait to get there, have some fun, and see what I am capable of. And of course, anything can happen!” Ian’s success is due to motivation, perseverance and training. With the guidance of his coach they tweak his training to his strengths. “I find most of my success is attributed to my focus on technique. Not being the tallest or most muscular guy in the pool, I am forced to rely on better skills such as faster turns and more efficient strokes to compete with the higher-level swimmers.” Ian’s words of wisdom to others is “as Dory said in Finding Nemo ‘Just keep swimming’.” From everyone at Panorama and your hometown of Sidney, good luck Ian. We hope you reach your dreams!

Sidney Island is indisputably one of the most pleasant and picturesque of the Gulf Islands, and the last one of this size that has remained undeveloped. Often referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Gulf’ it is about an hour kayak paddle from Sidney where we will pick a spot on the lovely sand spit for lunch. After there will be some time to explore the park before proceeding kayaking back towards Sidney through the little group of islands where there are Seal Colonies, Eagles nests, and if we are lucky river otters. A great way to spend a summer day and of course all lead safely by our expert guides. Bring a lunch, water, sandals and sun block.
