Djuna & Djuna Design Studio Colorado

Like many couples who share a passion, Karen and Jeffrey Moore longed for a way to work together while staying true to their professional passions. Jeffrey held a fine art degree from Cooper Union and was the founder and director of The Blue Star Art Space, one of San Antonio’s most revered nonprofit arts institutions. Karen owned and directed two galleries—one specializing in contemporary art and the other in international folk art. As they planned a life together, they knew that they wanted to stay in the design world but expand out of the gallery scene. Modeling their design business on one run by a couple they knew from their years in Texas, they incorporated art, art appreciation, world travel, and togetherness, and named the company after Djuna Barnes, the 1920s Parisian writer known for being a well-read, globetrotting oddball. Together Karen and Jeffrey create interiors that result in layered, eclectic, enviable spaces in Colorado and beyond. Built-ins by the fireplace, nailhead trim, and a few kitschy mountain elements combine to make guests feel fully immersed in the West. Photograph by Kent Pettit
