WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF PALM BEACH, INC.
Enhancing International Understanding
The World Affairs Council of Palm Beach opened its 4th season Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Colony Palm Beach Pavilion Room. Dr. Mehmet Gurses, Associate Professor, Dept of Political Science at Florida Atlantic University, addressed an enthusiastic audience of 150 members and guests on “Turkey: Before and After the Coup”. His discussion, often with personal references to his Kurdish ethnic ancestry, gave detailed insight into Turkey’s radical change from a Secular Democracy to an Islamist State. Since the U.S continues to maintain air bases inTurkey, Dr. Gurses noted how carefully the U.S. must tread in its diplomatic relations with the Turkish Islamist regime.
