New Dragon Hilary Devey steps into the Den Hilary is to join the next series of Dragons’ Den when it returns to BBC 2 later this year. She joins the other formidable Dragons, Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis, Duncan Bannatyne and Deborah Meaden, who are all returning for the new series. With her extensive business experience, she will bring a new dynamic to the Den, turning up the heat on prospective entrepreneurs as they seek that all important investment.”

I know you can all deliver great growth this year. I am told we made some good contacts at Multi Modal and it is a good arena to promote our brand. We are in the peak selling season, so let’s leave no stone unturned in seeking out new business. I wish to take this opportunity of thanking you all for your hard work following the launch of TWINE. We are very close to confirming our Romanian partners, which I am sure will feature in our summer edition. Europe is without doubt a major opportunity for Pall-Ex and its members. Exports into Europe are increasing and we must be aware of these selling opportunities, whilst the growth of our pan European network gains pace to take full advantage. You can rest assured; I will take every opportunity to promote Pall-Ex and its members, along with seeking out opportunities with my fellow dragons. Pall-Ex will gain a lot of valuable PR from this exposure and I am certain it will bring with it more business to our doors.

They dug office computers from the rubble and working in conjunction with the Pall-Ex IT department (in particular Jamie Sharp) set up a temporary office in the building - business continued without a hitch! My gratitude goes to Chris and IT along with Annemarie, Lorraine, Shona and John Caldwell for helping us maintain our operation throughout.

IT Update

Despite the challenges of implementing the new system, we have greatly benefited from the positive feedback and support received from Members across the network with regards to existing and new functionality that the system provides. Particularly gratifying is the number of Members who have already indentified the numerous benefits the system delivers to their operations.

……other developments. Whilst a lot of our efforts have been focused on TWINE, we are still investing in other areas of the IT remit. One particular area is the depot “batch” scanners. Several Members have asked if we can improve the scanning of barcodes in very low light (or “pitch black”) conditions. I am pleased to announce we have found a solution that we will be rolling out to depots that require it over the next few weeks and we will continue to work with Members to bring additional value to their IT requirements.

……very very important! Regular readers of the IT Update will know the importance that the team at Pall-Ex put on Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC): I thought it would be a good time to remind you all to review your IT back up processes and run a general health check across you hardware. None of us can afford to lose key operating systems or valuable data, so if you require any advice on what you need to do to ensure IT systems continuity, please give the IT Department a call at the Hub for some friendly free advice.

Ace Express receives award Ace Express has been awarded with the prestigious Deloitte “Irelands Best Managed Companies Award” for a third consecutive Year, the only freight company in Ireland to receive this accolade. Phillip Tracey, Managing Director, commented, “we are in the service business and in particular the logistical business, the cost of warehousing, transport and general logistics is one of the first areas companies look at when they want to reduce costs, as a service company we must listen to our customers first and do our best to give them what they need. If we fail to meet with customer requirements or expectations we are no use to our customers.” The award was presented to Phillip by the President Mary McAlesse.

David McCutcheon braves arctic conditions for charity David McCutcheon of Bullet Express (D105) completed a 120 mile trek in freezing conditions in Norway raising over £20,000 for The Rangers Charity Foundation. David said: “I was challenged to my limit with one or two very scary moments! We were caught in snow storms and could not see 5 ft in front of us. There were many challenges from endurance to sleding skills, as well as dealing with temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees. We had to work as a team to heat cabins and drill into a lake for water for dinner and breakfast. On clear days the views were superb and I was lucky enough to see the northern lights.”
