The design was inspired by the radial geometry of the lotus, the petal was manipulated as a motif to create illustrious archways as facade for the stadium. The petals are also arrayed at the roof. The truss was thus conceived accordingly, with members bifurcating from the base, intersecting at the middle, and then again diverging to finally meet the ring beam.

MASSING ITERATION 1: THE STAGGERED PYRAMID This iteration was proposed with terrace gardens outside each classroom so as to promote children to move outdoors. It aimed to provide a wholesome learning experience and environment.

MASSING ITERATION 2: THE LINEAR STEPS A major issue with the previous iteration was that each classroom received a very different type of sun quality, which posed an issue with the day to day activities. To resolve this, all the classrooms were placed with windows facing the same direction.

MASSING ITERATION 3: THE OPEN OCTAGON This iteration took a step away from the previous two iterations by removing the staggering, but at the same time providing a slight sense of the same by giving balconies of different widths overlooking the central courtyard.

FINAL ITERATION: THE CIRCULAR STAGGER This is the final design in the process of design development, which combines all the previous iterations by providing a central courtyard overlooked by staggered classrooms opening into terrace gardens.

THE CIRCULAR STAGGER

THE FINAL DESIGN WAS ARRIVED AT AFTER EXPERIMENTING WITH MANY ITER ATIONS, AND THEN EVENTUALLY FIXING THE DESIGN WITH A CENTRAL COURT YARD TO KEEP THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF THE SCHOOL LOW. ADDITION ALLY, ALL THE CLASSROOMS HAVE BEEN ARRANGED IN A RADIAL FASHION FACING THE NORTH, EAST, AND SOUTH DIRECTIONS ONLY. A GREEN TERRAC HAS BEEN PROVIDED OUTSIDE EACH CLASSROOM IN ORDER TO PROMOT THE STUDENTS TO MOVE OUTDOORS.

CERAMIC TISSUE: FLEXBRICK THE FACADE OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING IS DESIGNED BY USING ROTATING ‘FLEXBRICK’ MODULES, WITH EACH MODULE HAVING A DIFFERENT ANGLE OF ROTATION SUCH THAT THE CLASSROOMS DO NOT HAVE DIRECT SOLAR HEAT GAIN FROM THE GLAZING. THIS HELPS IN MAINTAINING A LOWER AMBIENT TEMPERATURE DESPITE HAVING LARGE SIZED WINDOWS. THE SIZE OF THE GLAZING AND THE ROTATING ‘FLEXBRICK’ MODULES HELP IN ALLOWING SUFFICIENT DAYLIGHT FOR VARIOUS TASKS ALONG AS WELL AS OPTIMAL VISIBILITY.
