Spirit of Giving
INSIDE: How you are there for patients and families in body, mind and spirit
Spring 2020
Violet found out she had a brain tumor on her 9th birthday She’s known all along YOU were there to help Violet’s world was turned upside down when a trip to the Emergency Department ended in a diagnosis of t-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since then, Violet has made it clear that she is a fighter and a hero. After her diagnosis last year, Violet began treatments at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at
Ascension St. Vincent. Then on her 9th birthday, an MRI revealed a mass on her brain. After three surgeries and a 54-day stay in the hospital, Violet is now undergoing maintenance treatments and is doing well. This is where you come in! Although Violet has not been able to attend school during her recoveries and treatments, she has worked with the school teacher at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and with art and music therapists – all funded by generous donors. Programs like these are made possible by people like you who care enough to give. You continue to save the lives of patients at Ascension St. Vincent every time you donate, sponsor an event or purchase a ticket.
Violet received the True Hero Award presented by Peyton Manning at the Celebration of Caring Gala. Continued on page 2

Hoosier Babies Could Have More 1st Birthdays Here’s one way YOU can help If an unborn baby or a new mother’s health are at risk, the mother can be put on bedrest (sometimes for a long time). It’s best for both, but can be frustrating or scary for a mother who has to stay in the hospital. You can bring comfort to mothers on bedrest (and many other patients!) through Healing Arts Therapy sessions. These can include things like recording a song to play along with the mother and baby’s heart beat, or writing a poem with wishes for baby. Indiana has a long way to go to improve infant and maternal health, and donors are key to the solution. Thanks to the support of Meyer Najem Construction and the Najem family, the High Risk Unit at Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital now also has an Art Therapy studio. The studio was named in honor of Anthony Najem’s aunt, Sister Rosemary Haboush. The space hosts therapy groups, and is open for patients and families as a safe haven outside the four walls of their hospital rooms. Art supplies and games are always available. Donors are the reason these special programs exist. You can help more Hoosier babies celebrate their 1st birthdays. Will you join Meyer Najem Construction and the Najem family by giving today?
