Card

Pad

Cartoon Each card is a magical toy that lets kids learn English unconsciously while playing.

2 Factors of Good Learning Materials: Kids like them!

They are effective!

World’s first English animation cards!

How to play? Why do kids like PadKaKa?

1 Show card to camera.

2 Pad plays cartoon!

PadKaKa Makes Cards Not Just Cards Any More!

Why is it effective? Brush your teeth. If there’s only sound, kids cannot understand. (The problem with many learning materials)

Brush your teeth. I get it! Kids learn the meaning through the animation’s demonstration. (The key point of PadKaKa is Animation.)

When kids learn a language, 83% of their learning comes from visual input! Dr. Wath, American Child Expert 6

Why is it effective?

Speaking Kids can record themselves.

Combining multiple senses makes English learning more effective.

Main competitor analysis- AR Card Kids like AR Card, but it’s not good for learning language. AR Card is cool, and kids like it. For example: https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=20C9Dyg18Mo

But AR Card features: – No or very few sentences and no corresponding cartoons to guide kids to learn language (AR cannot have a corresponding cartoon because it has images on the reverse side.) – Few sentences, hard to learn material. – Grammar-Translation Method. – Limited range of words; in order to show the AR image, the vocabulary set is specific objects, such as animals, cars, and so on. There are no abstract terms such as name or cute. – The AR card is on the reverse side of the Pad, but the eyes look at the front side. It is not convenient for kids to operate.

Main competitor analysis- Reading Pen May not be good for pre-school kids learning. “Reading Pen” can read out words or sentences when the pen touches a coded page. From the point of view of the Direct Method, it’s good if the pen touches some pictures, such as “dog” or “table”, because kids can learn the words for “dog” or “table”. But it is hard for kids to learn abstract words, such as “name” and “cute”. Besides, kids cannot really understand sentences from pictures. For example, the pen reads out “Could you do me a favor?” It is hard for kids to understand the meaning from the picture. That is why kids easily lose interest. PadKaka uses animation to help kids understand sentences easily. In fact, “Reading Pen” is designed for kids to learn reading. However, pre-school kids learning English as a second language should focus on learning listening and speaking. The right time to use “Reading Pen” is when they already have some listening and speaking skills.

Two Core Design Principles of PadKaKa Natural Method – Also called the Direct method. Learners directly learn the target language without translating into their native language, unlike the Grammar-translation Method. Children learn English through known words, images, actions and demonstrations. It is the best way for little kids to learn a language, especially listening and speaking.

Cultivate Listening and Speaking Skills – During the critical period for children’s language learning, they should focus on listening and speaking rather than reading and writing.

Play – Learning through Playing Active Learning – Children choose the cards they want themselves. Natural – Natural Method (Direct Method), rather than the Grammar-translation Method.

Cards – Kids love cards. Manipulating cards makes the learning more effective.

Animation – When kids learn a language, 83% of their learning comes from visual input! It plays a vital role in language learning.

PadKaKa’s Role

At Home

• Since it is easy and fun to use, children can play with PadKaKa by themselves. However, it’s even better if their parents play with them! • Increasing the English immersion environment. (Using the Direct Method to learn English.) • Enhancing listening and speaking skills through PadKaKa’s vocabulary cartoons. • A very important key to establishing English skills is immersion in English for at least 10–20 minutes every day.

Padkaka's Role

Tips at Home

• Start from Song Flash Cards: – Especially for children under 3 years old, or for beginners in English. – Babies and toddlers love songs. Children’s songs have rhythms and melodies, so children can easily learn them and like to sing. Children are interested and sing again and again because PadKaKa has animations for each song. English pronunciation is rhythmic, and each sound is connected. Singing songs helps children to speak English fluently. Besides, children’s songs help children feel closer to English. According to research, music and language are processed in the same part of the brain. Music helps a lot in language learning.

Padkaka's Role

Tips at Home

• Let Children Choose Cards: – Parents grab about 20 cards and let the child choose 2–5 flash cards for themselves. 2–5 flash cards per day is enough, since too many cards will distract the child. In addition, the child will watch the vocabulary cartoons repeatedly if they only have a few cards. Repetition is important in language learning. The reason why kids should choose the cards is that they will cherish their choices and have much greater motivation to watch the vocabulary cartoons. The children learn in an active way because they have chosen the cards themselves.

• Children Record Pronunciation – Once the child has watched a vocabulary cartoon, ask the child to record their pronunciation and then play it back using PadKaKa’s recording function.

Padkaka's Role

Tips at Home

• Don’t Translate: – Please do not ever translate when children watch the animation. Children will figure it out by themselves. Once parents translate English to their native language, children will only listen to what their parents say and stop “guessing”. In fact, when children watch animations, they seldom ask about the meaning of the conversation in the animations. They will try to guess by themselves. The way they are using is the Direct Method to learn English through the help of animation. That is why PadKaKa’s cartoons are very important. – Remember! The Direct Method/Natural Method is the right method to learn English, instead of the Translation Method. Children are geniuses, so trust them and let them figure it out by themselves.

Padkaka's Role

Kindergarten

• What Kind of Kindergarten is PadKaKa Good for? – Teaching children with the Natural Method and focusing on listening and speaking skills. – Teacher Qualifications: Able to talk to children in English. Active personality and creative mind in order to stimulate children to speak English. – Willingness to discard books as the main teaching materials: Books are the main teaching materials for reading and writing. However, for listening and speaking, the key elements are conversations with the children, the teacher’s demonstrations and actions, and images and animations. PadKaKa is not a book, but it provides many images to assist teachers.

Padkaka's Role

Kindergarten

• Use PadKaKa as a major teaching tool. Suggestions for use: – Step 1: Show animation in Kid mode (e.g., Cat) – Step 2: Teacher explains and discusses the story with children according to the animation in English and encourages children to speak English by asking questions. For example, in the cartoon “Cat is amazing!”, the teacher could ask “Why is cat amazing?” or other questions, like “Do you like cats?” or “Who has a cat?” • Use PadKaKa as a supplementary tool, not a major teaching tool: – Review vocabulary and increase retention by using PadKaKa. – Use it as an English learning workstation (e.g., Montessori System). • Homework: – To learn English well, it is very important for children to be immersed in English at home every day, not only at school. PadKaKa is a very good tool for children, since kids like it and PadKaKa focuses on what children need: listening and speaking skills.
