henry david thoreau (1817-1862) wrote novels, articles, essays and poetry that advocated a return to nature. thoreau himself led a very simple life, which he described in his masterpiece “walden; or, life in the woods� (1854). today, with the environment and ecology headlining the news more or less constantly, his green ideology is once again the talk of the town. Seeing Georgetown students walking around campus carrying his books proves that, thankfully, some issues never become unfashionable.
