BEST WINDOW CLEANERS Elliot Atlas goes two for two in this year’s Best-of voting (see Best Carpet Cleaners). “We believe in good quality work that is good AND lasting,” he opines about the window portion of Atlas Window & Carpet Cleaning. The only company in Marin to use extension poles (leaving ladders out of the usual cleaning equation), his team of carefully trained workers performs quickly, safely and more importantly, effectively. SUN: What’s the difference between a good window cleaner and a great window cleaner? ATLAS: Most professional window cleaners can do an adequate-to-excellent job when right next to the window (either standing next to it or on a ladder by the window). In my opinion, a great window cleaner has the skill to do a great job, even with extension poles that can reach anywhere from 8 to 24 feet (accurate work from a distance). A great window cleaner has a lot of pride in the work and is very detail-oriented. Q: What’s a common mistake people make when cleaning their own windows? A: Not using a good squeegee is the biggest mistake people make when cleaning their own windows. The other mistake is the lack of knowledge of how to use glass cleaners correctly. Q: That’s me to a T. What should I do? A: Most people apply the cleaner and then wipe it clean and usually this leaves a streaky residue. My suggestion is to apply the cleaner then wipe with a paper towel. Repeat that and then buff it with a dry paper towel.
