Alison Lester and Boori Monty Pryor are our first Australian Childrenâ€™s Laureates! Together they share the inaugural role for 2012 and 2013 and are united in their message to all Australian Children: ' join our story circle!'. Both have been very busy in 2012 involving children, their families and communities in events, festivals and projects all over the country from remote communities to inner city schools... Now it's 2013 and they are excited about another full program of story based activities! (What does it mean to be a Children's Laureate?).

Newcastle Region Library - NSW Date: Friday 25 January Time: 10am - 3pm Entry: Free public event (foyer and gallery). Alison Lester will be leading drawing workshops to create a large wall mural based on her Antarctica exhibition as part of The Big Draw Newcastle. Alison will lead drawing demonstrations in stencilling, watercolour, collage and wax resist. These will take place regularly during the day (10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm). The Big Draw Newcastle is the largest collaboration of a Big Draw Event to take place in Australia. Alison Lester's Kids' ANTARCTIC ART Exhibition Newcastle Region Library, Lovett Gallery - NSW Date: 17 January until 23 February And if you are in or visiting Newcastle this January, visit the Newcastle Region Library and see the fabulous Alison Lester's Kids' ANTARCTIC ART Exhibition from 17 January until 23 February. The exhibition includes artwork from her new picture book, Sophie Scott Goes South.
