“The range of contemporary and historical resources available at the Bodleian Libraries makes studying at Oxford truly special.”

The Bodleian Libraries support the studies of thousands of Oxford’s students. Priyanaz Chatterji is just one of those who depend on the unparalleled access to new materials and special collections. Priyanaz is currently studying for BA Human Sciences at Mansfield College

Our acquisition of primary source materials and contemporary resources advances research in all fields of study. It is crucial that we have the funds to enable us to act quickly to add items to our collection when they become available. You are an important part of our community of Oxford Thinkers.

Please help us by supporting the acquisition of resources which inspire ideas that change the world.

Gifts from alumni are a vital source of funding for the Bodleian Libraries.

Dr Chris Fletcher, Keeper of Special Collections, oversaw the purchase of a Jane Austen manuscript from 1804.

“The purchase of the Jane Austen manuscript is testament to Oxford’s commitment to acquiring and sharing our cultural history. We feared it would disappear into a private collection where it could not be enjoyed by the public or scholars. People like to know it is in a public institution. Since acquisition the manuscript has been on public display and used for scholarly study.”

Over the past 400 years, supported by the generosity and foresight of our donors, the Bodleian Libraries have built up outstanding print collections. Now an amazing range of electronic books, journals and databases is available to complement them.

“ Alumni can help us accelerate the process of building our e-resources and make even more available to our students, researchers and academics whenever they need them, wherever they are.” Catríona Cannon, Associate Director, Collection Support, the Bodleian Libraries.

The Bodleian Libraries were built on philanthropy and have been stimulating and supporting research for centuries. Throughout this time, rare books, manuscripts, archives, maps, music and contemporary resources have been at the forefront of our work. Today, resources are as likely to be made up of pixels as pages and accessed from outside the hushed reading rooms and historic buildings. We need your support to continue to purchase some of the world’s most special collections and provide the best contemporary resources for our current students and scholars.

The exceptional resources held in the Bodleian Libraries’ reading rooms and online catalogues support the work of thousands of students and scholars each year.
