November 1-3 Pastimes, Arts and Fine Crafts Sale will be held at the Owatonna Arts Center. The artists and fine crafts people have been busy making pieces for the annual Pastimes show and sale. The list of artists participating is impressive and a wide range of media will be represented. If you are an artists or know of an artist that would like be a part of the juried sale Pastimes, you can find the entry form on the Arts Centers website www. oacarts.org or phone the Arts Center at 507-451-0533.

November 1, 2012 - March 31, 2013 Steele County Historical Society will showcase a “Minnesota Homefront” exhibit at the history center, located at 1700 Austin Road. Change came quickly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Featuring nine panels, audio interviews, songs of the period and a “Letter Stories” bin, Minnesota Homefront, World War II shares the experiences of 46 Minnesotans and the state’s role in the most widespread war in history. Find out what it was like to “make do” with rationing, farm during a severe labor shortage, work on the Iron Range and in defense plants, develop inventions for the war, be trained as a translator at Fort Snelling, and endure a starvation experiment for science and the war effort. We will have local oral histories to tie to this exhibit and we look forward to adding more supporting material.

November 3 The Elks annual Holiday Craft Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elks Club, 126 E. Vine in Owatonna. A variety of crafters — floral arrangements, holiday decorations and gifts, jewelry, gloves and more — will have their wares up for sale. Homemade rolls will be available from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., with homemade wild rice soup and sloppy joe baskets available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

November 3 The Holiday Craft Show for SeniorPlace will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SeniorPlace, 500 Dunnell Drive in the West Hills Complex. Donations of craft items, baked goods, canned good, garden vegetables, SeniorPlace cookies (baked or frozen) and lefse will be available.

November 10 - March 13, 2013 Step back into time and enjoy a look at what life was like in Minnesota and Steele County while you visit the Minnesota Homefront Exhibit, a traveling exhibit from MHS, along with specially researched companion programming about Owatonna during the WWII years. Many local companies contributed to the war effort — you will learn how at this exhibit.
