I have gained so much experience through my time spent in yearbook. To start, I acquired skills in using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign CS6. I have also learned how to manage the Oviedian yearbook website and email. I have learned how to train the new staff members, Alexis and Bailey. I taught them the basics of yearbook and informed them about what being on Community has in store including picture scanning, money management and designing ads. My leadership skills enhanced tremendously while making this year’s book because I was able to take the knowledge I learned from last year and pass it on. Through this, I will able to prepare myself for the extra responsibility that I am given in future careers. Also I have been able to improve my communication skills. My leadership, hard work, and communication skills helped to insure not only my success but also the success of my peers.

I am most pleased with the way that I handled adversity. In Community, almost everything runs smoothly. For the first 2 years, I haven’t had to deal with any real issues. With the extra responsibility that comes with being a section editor, I now had to be the person who found a way to resolve the issues. Though there weren’t many issues, there were still a few things that I had to handle throughout the year. One thing that I had to do was organize the Yearbook Website and the Email account. I had never had to handle a website before so it definitely was a challenge figuring out how to work it and to make everything as simple as possible. In addition, I was also responsible for organizing the Tip In. Though this new responsibility came with its struggles, the team that I organized and I were able to resolve the hiccups that we faced. I am so proud of the accomplishments that I have made over the past 4 years because yearbook has taught me more than just how to design a yearbook but I learned how to thrive in a working environment. I am glad that I had to face some challenges because these are moments that I can learn from and utilize my new knowledge in the future.

Throughout this schoolyear, Community ran like a well-oiled machine. We never fell behind and never looked back. This year was the best one I have experienced because we finished designing a month earlier than usual. I feel that Samiyah made tremendous improvement between Junior and Senior year which greatly attributed to our ability to achieve the feat of finishing a month early. Alexis made great strides as well and I believe that she is a very capable suitor to be Communities next editor. Community would not have been as great as it was without Bailey. She designed our nameplates and I believe that they were the best nameplates since I've been on staff. Thank you Pope for everything you have done for the book this year. You push us to be the best that we can be and then some. This is a book that I am very proud of. Also, thank you for putting the people on Community that you did. They were all a vital part in our success.

I will always cherish the memories I have made in my 4 years of being a part of the Oviedian Yearbook. As I look back, I now see how much I have grown. I came into this class as a kid who's only design experience was a photoshop class in 8th grade. I am now a highly capable designer in Adobe Indesign and Photoshop. I was even able to use these skills to design a metal winning t-shirt. Yearbook has been such an impactful experience because it has taught me how to communicate with people in order to meet a common goal. I have made so many friends along the way and I can truthfully say that I will miss yearbook more than anything else in high school. I will remember the chicken videos we would watch after we finally finished the book. I will remember the classic spring break expression “don’t gain a life or lose a life” as we walk out to begin our break. This adventure has had its ups and downs but I wouldn't trade them in for anything. This class will always have a special place in my heart.
