these are the moments
The father of the bride, Colleen, had just gone through heart surgery and was on medication. It took every inch of his being just to stand up, let alone attend the wedding. The day of the wedding, he had forgotten his heart medication and just didn't know how much longer he could be there. At the start of the reception, Colleen’s dad told her that he was not going to be able to have their father/daughter dance. While the groom was dancing with his mom, Colleen left the room. Colleen had expressed to me during our planning stage how important her father is to her, so I could tell she was heartbroken. Knowing this, I politely went over to Dad and had a quick heart to heart. I understood how they were both feeling because my own dad had been on crutches since he was 15 and only had one good leg, so for our father/daughter dance together, we stood on the corner of the dance floor, he dropped his crutches — and we just rocked back and forth. Our feet didn't move an inch… we just swayed back and forth for a minute. It was a brief moment, but it is one of the most memorable moments of my life. After telling him that story, I asked him “If I only play 60 seconds of the song, do you think you could stand at the edge of the dance floor and just sway with your daughter for a moment?” He looked me in the eyes and said, “I will do that for my daughter, Thank You.” You should have seen the look on Colleen’s face when she walked in the room and I told her it was time for the father/daughter dance. This photo, including the single tear drop on Colleen’s cheek, brings tears to my eyes and fire to my heart every time I see it. It is my constant reminder that I am in this business because weddings are where love grows and family strengthens. That mixed with a passion for music makes for the perfect ingredients for a wedding DJ/MC.

how it works
Planning Stages Leading up to the wedding day, youâ€™ll use the Our DJ Rocks online planning system. This online planning tool helps keep us organized and provides me details for your wedding from the special songs you want played, the announcements you would like made, to little things like who is toasting and will there be a blessing. This ensured that come wedding day, we have absolutely everything required to orchestrate things from start to finish. Our goal is for you and your fiancĂŠ have an amazing time at your reception, letting us create the memories. Wedding Ceremony We arrive an hour and a half before guests. As your guests filter in for the ceremony, we play light music to fill the air and await the beginning of the procession. We place a wireless lapel mic on the officiant to ensure your guests can hear the ceremony. We then play a processional song for the honored guests to be seated to, one for your wedding
party and of course a special song for you to walk down the aisle. The ceremony then takes place, and once pronounced as a married couple, we then play the celebratory exit song. These are all choices you make! Transition Following the ceremony, the music continues with a smooth transition into cocktail hour while the wedding party takes photo. Reception As your guests enter the reception venue, there is cocktail music playing to greet them, and as they enjoy refreshments and hors d oeuvres, we await the arrival of the newlyweds and wedding party. If needed, we will ask guests to take their seats for our introductions. We become the voice of your reception, and we keep your guests informed of what events are taking place, and where their attention should be. We work with your vendors to be sure that none of us miss a step.
Reception continued Upon arrival, we will greet the newlyweds and weddings party and prepare your guest of honor for introductions. As your Emcee, we welcome everyone and progress with a fun, yet formal introduction of everyone in the wedding party, culminating with the introduction of the newly married couple. We encourage you all to get somewhat creative with this event, as this sets the stage for the reception to follow! As the cheers start to face, I introduce the newlyweds “dancing together for the very first time,” followed by your chosen song. We then invite your guest(s) of honor to your head table as we transition into our toasts followed by dinner. Once the dinner and formal dances have been completed, it's party time!! Dancing As we transition from dinner to dancing, we will pick the music up a bit to attract your guests’ attention to the dance floor. Then it’s party time! We promise to truly incorporate your music tastes. This is your day, not ours. We encourage you to provide a list of your favs, and your list of least favs! We love requests from your guests and, in our experience, it is those special requests from guests are the ones that create lasting memories on the dance floor. Even for those that never dance!

As with most girls, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted my wedding to look like -- the flowers, my dress, the decor, the venue, etc. But I was constantly going back and forth between a band or a DJ. Having danced my entire childhood, and going on to dance in college and cheer as an NFL cheerleader, the dance floor and vibe at my wedding was SUPER IMPORTANT to me -- to say the least. Most of my friends in attendance were friends I had made throughout my dance journey, and I knew there wouldn't be a problem getting and keeping the dance floor full. But I also have been to plenty of weddings/events where the music didn't fit the vibe in the room, and where the dance floor and the energy slowly depleted due to the music being played. I read countless positive reviews about how Kristin and Our DJ Rocks have an uncanny ability to gauge the crowd and play just the right songs, so I took the plunge and decided to work with Kristin on my wedding day. I had high expectations, and she doubled, tripled -- no, quadrupled them. I have never had someone meet me and get my style in music so quickly, and I loved that working with her meant just the right amount of control -- all of my "must plays" and "play if possibles" were played with just the right amount of songs in between, and the special dances went off without a hitch and with great flow. I knew most of the guests would be dancing all night, but I assumed some guests (family, family friends, etc.)would maybe hit the floor for a slow dance or two. I was wrong. Thanks to Kristin's stellar opening of the floor, the ENTIRE wedding was out singing "New York, New York" (we live in NYC, so this was pretty much perfect) and doing a kick line together, followed up by what else by Uptown Funk and some of the best groomsmen performances I have ever seen. She then kept all generations entertained with a perfect mix of throwbacks, 90s, hip-hop and more. I can't put into words how pleased I was and still am with Kristin and the services she provided for our wedding day.Our reception wouldn't have been half of what it was without her there! -Kasey + Drew

Our DJ Rocks is truly best in class! I would define myself as a pretty discriminating consumer & professional so only naturally that carried over into my vendor selection and review.... Kristin has an amazing reputation in the industry, and every other vendor I talked to raved about what a great choice I made. The night of my wedding I understood why! She did a great job listening to my preferences and needs while also taking ownership of the event being fun and flowing well for everyone!.... Up to the wedding she was very organized, responsive, proactive. Kristen hands down was one of the best vendor selections I made and the dance floor was FUN and FULL the whole time! As an MC she was bright, captivating on pointand she did a great job keeping everything moving!!.... I've heard so many bad stories about DJs being divas and not really sticking to your preferences are playlist bc they know better- and she was SO NOT that DJ- she was the perfect combination of building on what I had selected and what we discussed and enhancing it. She kept me informed of the timeline and made sure I also got dancing time! (what a sweetheart she had my bridesmaids come get me when I had barely been on the floor!) ... I can assure you your wedding will be a great party if you hire Our DJ Rocks!

We offer several packages as well as a la carte services. Each wedding we do is as unique as the couple themselves; therefore, each of our wedding packages are unique. We are happy to customize any package based on your specific needs. After reviewing our pricing info, we would schedule a time to meet and chat in depth about your wedding vision, needs and budget.
What would you say your style is? It’s tough to put into words what we’re like, but here goes. We are uber-organized, easy to work with and like a brief-case-on-a-rope-swing, professional-yet-fun. We are extremely positive, always smile and tend to add to the energy and excitement for your celebration. We dress nicely, our gear is neat and cleanly covered, we are insured, and we do bring backup equipment. AND we wear glittery shoes when we DJ. If we book you (Kristin) for our wedding and you get sick then who replaces you? In the 11 years I have been DJing, I have never missed a wedding! EVER. However, in an emergency situation (illness, death in the family, etc.), we do have a back up plan. Remember, we have a team of four DJs—Tabitha, Gaby, Samantha, and myself-- and we never book more than three weddings a day. So, one of us is always available. We also have a ghost DJ that backs up the entire team. Are we supposed to provide food for our DJ? Providing dinner or food is not in our contract (however, it is always appreciated since we are a part of your day). Do you plan on having back up materials in case something malfunctions? As far as equipment goes, we always have a back up laptop that powers everything. We also back up all of your special music onto my phone and an iPad. That’s four locations total for your music.
How do you account for electricity if it is not readily available? In order to manage the power, we just need to find out how far away the power source is. You never want to plug in multiple extension cords because you have the possibility of tripping the power with each plug in. I would say if power is more than 150 feet away, we would need to look into a generator. How do you provide sound for the ceremony if it is in a different room/space or outside? We would use a separate, remote sound system. Do I need a DJ for the ceremony? The most important part of the ceremony is the music that creates the moments and the microphones so your guests can hear. As your guests filter in for your upcoming ceremony, we play light music to fill the air, as we all await the beginning of the procession. We place a wireless lapel mic on the officiant, so all of your guests can hear the ceremony and vows. If you are customizing your ceremony with a singer or someone who is reading we can add on a microphone for that, just give us an idea of what you need and we can let you know the pricing on that. We then play a processional song for the honored family to be seated to, one for the honored friends to walk down the aisle to, and, of course, a special song for that special moment… your walk down the aisle to your best friend and love of your life! The ceremony then takes place, and once pronounced a married couple we then play the celebratory exit song. These are all choices you make! You can choose it to be songs with words, without words, string versions, acoustic guitar versions - it's really up to you. You can even email us an mp3 if you find a song you fall in love with. Do you offer any discounts? Savings are available for Weekday and Off-Season (Jan-Feb, July-Sept) Weddings.
What exactly is included in a photo + video booth rental? All Photo/Video Booth Rentals Include: • Delivery, Set up and Break down • Professional & Courteous Booth Attendant • Black Printz or Black Classic booth style • Video Messaging • Customized photostrip logo/design • Customized Guest Welcome Screen with the Couples Names and Wedding Date • Choice of color, black and white or both • Scrapbook, glue and pens. • Party Props including boas, hats and possibly our signature mustaches-on-a-stick! • All digital photo and video files after your event • Professional Photo Booth Concierge • Photo Lab quality printers are used making sure your pictures last for years • Double Strips with each session – one for you and one for your guests • Unlimited photo sessions during your contracted time period I’M READY TO BOOK! Now what? We love making a personal connection with each of our clients. It’s what helps us create those unplanned moments. Paint a picture for us of how you want your day to look and we’ll put the tunes to it! For this reason, we prefer to meet with all clients in-person before booking an event. Call or email to schedule a time to meet in person or chat on the phone! Due to our events schedule, consultation Times are typically Tuesday-Thursday, 10am-6pm. In order to secure your date, we require a 50% check or money order along with your signed contract. The remaining balance must be paid in full at least 30 days prior to your event. All retainers are non-refundable so make sure that you have confirmed and reserved your venue before booking. We also accept Visa, Mastercard or Discover. Along with the contract, we will also send your user name and password to the Our DJ Rocks online planner. You will have until one month prior to your event to complete those.
