Nearly a century ago, our company registered its first patent: for a fireproof metal wastebasket. It seems like such a simple idea now, but it was the first evidence that Steelcase would succeed by developing solutions based on insights about human behavior. In 1912, offices were all wood and paper. They were crowded, and everyone smoked – and paper mixed with stillsmoldering cigarette butts in a wooden receptacle was a dangerous formula. The first wastebasket became a prototype for many more innovations. We recognized, and solved for, human needs. The nature of work has become more complex and the needs can be more difficult to discern, but our approach has remained the same. We observe, we synthesize our learnings and we work closely with research partners around the world to generate valuable insights. We believe our customers turn to Steelcase not just because of what we make, but because of what we know. Leading organizations around the world seek our counsel and collaboration to make their workplaces more effective and more attractive to existing and prospective employees. And we continue to develop new insights – not just related to the traditional office, but wherever work happens.

Founded in 1912, Steelcase became a publicly-traded company in 1998, and our stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “SCS.” Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S.A., Steelcase is a global company with approximately 10,000 employees and 2012 revenue of $2.75 billion. Across the course of our 100-year history, we see the resilience of the company and its people as we addressed a number of challenges, and it’s hard to imagine a decade any more challenging than the last one. Yet Steelcase emerged from two industry recessions as a stronger enterprise, more fit for competition on a global basis. Fiscal 2012 was our second year of solid profitability following the global recession of 2009. Net income increased significantly to $57 million, compared to $20 million in the previous year. Steelcase reported organic revenue growth of 14 percent, driven by 19 percent organic growth in the Americas segment. We also grew in Asia Pacific and some of ourlocal markets in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

8 year warranty - You cand depend on us. Without prejudice to the legal warranties provided under national law, Steelcase (Steelcase Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries) warrants that its commercial products are free from defects in materials or workmanship for a period of eight (8) years as of date of delivery for the SteelcaseŽ brand (with the exceptions and exclusions specified below). Steelcase will repair or replace with comparable product, at its option and free of charge (for material and components) any product, part or component which fails under normal use. Steelcase sites in Europe operate under an Environmental Management System (EMS) framework. An EMS ensures that environmental issues are systematically identified, controlled, and monitored. It is the most consistent and effective way of pursuing continuous environmental improvements in our global operations. ISO 14001 and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

They are voluntary management tools for organisations willing to evaluate, report and improve their environmental performance. The external and independent verification process of ISO1400 and EMAS ensures their credibility and reliability.


We support the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). We set an industry precedent in 2001 when interpreting LEED criteria in the context of a manufacturing environment. Steelcase wood manufacturing plant in Michigan (USA) was the world's 1st manufacturing plant to receive LEED certification.

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification)

Steelcase was the 1st company in Europe to receive a multi-site PEFC certification; all our European production facilities received this certification, rewarding our efforts to ensure that the wood used in our products has been sourced from environment-friendly suppliers.

OHSAS 18001

Our Wisches plant in France, received the OHSAS 18001 certification (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series). Its occupational health and safety management system enables to control risks and improve its performance. Wisches paves the way for our other European plants to complete the OHSAS 18001 certification process.

Indoor Advantage

The seating portfolio (task, visitor and lounge) is certified with the Indoor Advantage
