Selles-sur-Cher AOP: This goat’s milk disk is dusted with ash and aged for only several weeks, making a decadent fudgy paste with a citrusy minerality and sweet flavour of nuts. Epoisses AOP: The King of stinky cheese! An impossibly smooth paste wrapped in a del i cate r ind wa s he d w i t h Marc de B o u r g o g n e , p r e s e nt i n g i nt e n s e b u t balanced flavours of buttered nuts, and fruit. St. Marcellin AOP: Unassuming and delicate in its tiny terra cotta pot, this satiny cheese has a huge personality. Earthy and fruity with well-rounded scents of cow and barnyard.

Our PANETTONE is baked fresh for Ottavio by baker extraordinaire, Cliff Leir, at Fol Epi. Made only with the finest, organic, premium sourced ingredients, it is on the shelves for a limited time only.! !

The nature of this seasonal specialty is to undergo a bit of ageing as flavour develops throughout the Panettone so don’t wait until the last week to buy it. We love it with a glass of Asti Spumante as we decorate the tree.! !

Our bakers Cam and Mel are busy elves this season, stocking the shelves with our homemade seasonal favourites including:! ²  ITALIAN FRUITCAKE & BLACK FOREST YULE LOGS! ²  MINCE MEAT TARTS! ²  FESTIVE COOKIES & CHRISTMAS INSPIRED GHIACCIATI! ²  PEPPERMINT MERINGUE TREES! ²  LEMON STARS, CHECKERBOARD SHORTBREAD, GINGERSNAPS! Don’t miss out on trying our own homemade PANFORTE. Cam has hit it out of the park with our family recipe, creating a delicious traditional Italian panforte. Made with figs, almonds, hazelnuts, honey, our own candied citrus peel and a blend of spices, panforte is delicious to nibble on (really like a natural power bar), or on a cheese board next to a nice aged cheddar or sheep’s milk Manchego. Makes a unique stocking stuffer too! Plus, keep your eyes open for Peppermint Candy Cane Gelato.! We also have our house-made Marzipan logs available for all baking needs. !

Chestnuts

Get them while you can! Ottavio carries European chestnuts only during the Christmas holidays. Much loved around the world, chestnuts have a slightly sweet, deep, rich, nutty flavour and a dense texture. Look for our chestnut roasters outside during the holidays or purchase some from us to roast at home. Ø  Here’s how you do it at home: using a sharp knife, carefully score a good sized “x” on the flat side of each nut. Spread the nuts out on a baking sheet and roast in a preheated 400˚F oven until the shells peel back around the “x” – approximately 20 minutes. Remove and let them cool a little (they are easier to peel when warm), then peel and enjoy. For all your baking and stuffing needs, don’t forget that we carry all sorts of chestnut products, from peeled whole chestnuts to chestnut purées. Buon Natale!
