Far too many lives to list have been transformed by INTRAMAX, a great-tasting super nutritional.

If you start today you can build an ENTIRELY NEW BODY in 365 days, but that totally depends on your nutrition. If your health is failing it’s because of a poor diet…and the problem is cheap vitamins sold at big box stores are HURTING you. Consumer Lab studies conducted both in 2005 and 2014 revealed most popular multivitamins FLUNK OUT of quality tests proving they’re: missing vitamins and minerals they claim to contain, full of lead and contaminants that are hard on your liver, unable to dissolve enough to be absorbed by your body –and what you don’t absorb goes down the toilet along with wasted money. What’s worse is these vitamins never contain the MUST-HAVE high-powered nutrients that create BIG changes in the way you look and feel.

But It Is Now Finally Possible to Enjoy Healthy Aging, EVEN UP TO AGE 100

Thanks to advanced Immunologist and Naturopath Dr. Richard Drucker, PhD. Because INTRAMAX combines more than 415 HIGH-POWERED organic minerals, vitamins, herbs, and anti-oxidants into a patented liquid that drives these life-giving nutrients into cells while removing harmful toxins. “When I started taking Intramax I was on 5 medications and borderline Diabetic, struggling to keep from going full blown. After several months on Intramax I only take one medication and feel better than I have in my entire life! I Don’t recommend anyone stop their meds but definitely buy Intramax, I try to never run out.” – Gregg T, Kennesaw

INTRAMAX is more than the best vitamin you’ll ever find. INTRAMAX works daily to build new, sharper brain cells, a younger stronger heart, faster metabolism, vibrant red blood cells, powerful libido and fertility, more dense bones, thicker stomach lining, a healthier liver, supple skin, and renewing DNA molecules fueling your entire body on a cellular level! How many vitamins and prescriptions are you taking now? How many pills are you struggling to swallow each day? Are your blood tests improving? Is your doctor patting you on the back…or scratching his or her head and reaching for a prescription pad? I’ve got a much better solution for you. And I want you to keep in mind that INTRAMAX is not just going to give you vitamins you’re missing–you will witness how fast your body heals itself from diseases, aches and pains. You’ll notice how much younger you look, how much energy you have, how remarkably GOOD you feel not to mention how many more quality healthy years you’ll add to your life once you begin rebuilding your body with INTRAMAX. There’s only one way to find out if INTRAMAX is the answer to your many health problems. Andrew, a (West) Cobb County native, is a Kennesaw Mountain high school alum (05’) and went on to play football at Shorter University in their inaugural season. After graduating from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Mallory travelled to Rome for her first job as Director of Special Events at Shorter. It was there they met while both were finishing their MBAs. Mallory, born and raised in Macon, visited Marietta for the first time when the two began dating. She instantly fell in love with the town and knew she wanted to move here and eventually start a family with Andrew. Andrew works with Detroit Forming, Inc. as Regional Sales Manager for the southeast, and Mallory works as the listing coordinator for Harry Norman Realtors in East Cobb - assisting with marketing, graphic design and social media for the office. They have been married over 6 years and have two children, Hudson (4) and Caroline (2). Both babies were born at WellStar Kennestone Hospital and received exceptional care-especially Hudson who was in the NICU for 11 days. Currently Hudson cannot decide if he would rather be an astronaut or Batman. He has been reassured he has plenty of time to make up his mind. Caroline spends her days swinging from everything she can hang from, loves raisins, and singing.

The family is very active at Marietta Community Church where Mallory sings in the Praise band on Sunday mornings. They enjoy family movie nights, being at the pool, concerts on the Marietta square and the farmer’s market, playing with their pups (Molly, an English Springer Spaniel and Annie, a Yellow Lab), and just having a good time--all the time.

Jody Williams Traylor of Jody Lynn Photography has been photographing newborns, children and families in the local area for over ten years. Coming from a technical background in information technology, Jody decided to go the complete opposite route and get creative with photography. They say if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life and she believes that 100%. Even though you’ll often find Jody tickling or acting silly to get the cutest reactions from her little subjects, she believes the real moments are the in-between moments. Like that moment right before a child laughs when their face lights up or right after when they are filled with joy. Jody and her husband Ben Traylor have joined forces to create CLICK Photography Studio located at 955 Roswell Street in Marietta. At CLICK Photography Studio, we will offer not only photography and video production, but also photography workshops. While our storefront is new, CLICK is not new to us. Jody has been teaching CLICK workshops for the last 6 years in the Atlanta area. Would you like to learn how to use your camera better? Is the camera manual a little hard to follow? A CLICK workshop might just be the thing for you. We teach you the most important basics in an easy to follow hands-on format. When not photographing other families, Jody and Ben enjoy spending time with their son, Carter (7, or 7 ¾ as he would say!) and watching him play second base on his baseball team. They are very active spending time at their son’s school and volunteering in the community as much as they can.

Letters from Abroad by Kelly Dean You know that feeling you get when you show off somewhere or something you love to others? That excited feeling of showing every hidden corner and all the spots that hold a memory? That was how I was feeling about meeting up with my parents in Spain for Easter. The plan was to meet my parents in the Madrid airport and then we would all fly together to Galicia, my husband’s region. This was their first visit to see his home and we really wanted to show it off. They had heard so much about it from the summers we’ve spent there. The flight from Madrid to Vigo, the local airport, is only an hour. The first thing you will notice when flying into Vigo, is the contrast of the surroundings from Madrid. Outside of the city itself, Madrid is basically a dry, flat desert. Galicia is green and mountainous, with extensive coastline and estuaries. My husband joked to my Dad that the airport runway is the only flat piece of land in the area. The first stop on our tour of Galicia was the region’s political and cultural capital, Santiago de Compostela. Some of you may know Santiago de Compostela as the home of the final stop of the religious pilgrimage, “El Camino de Santiago”. In English, we know it as “The Way of St. James”. The trails extend across Europe and can be completed on foot or by bike. Pilgrims follow the scallop shells, the symbol of the Camino, collecting stamps in each town where they stay. The Camino ends at the cathedral, a medieval church that claims to hold the remains of the Apostle James. It happened to be Good Friday when we arrived with my parents. The city was full of pilgrims finishing the Camino. We went inside the cathedral and my husband explained the history and symbolic meanings. Behind the altar, there was a long line of people waiting to touch the statue of St. James. It’s tradition for pilgrims, upon reaching the cathedral, to pay their respects to the Saint by giving him a hug.

Santiago de Compostela is also home to a large university, well known for health sciences and medicine. The town itself is compact, but charming. The historic center is packed with bars and restaurants. For dinner, we took my parents for a very Spanish experience; pintxos (small toasts with a meat or fish topping) and tapas. It was so full that we had to stand squashed up beside the bar. This is how you know a good quality place: if it’s so full there is no place to sit. Spaniards don’t have problems with crowds. For a sweet finish, we had churros and chocolate-stereotypical, but when in Spain, why not? Over the course of the week, we drove all over the western coast of Galicia, seeing the fishing villages, beaches, and Celtic ruins from the Iron Age. We even visited a gothic military fortress in Portugal, which is just across the river from my husband’s hometown. We spent the last few days of their visit in Madrid before parting ways in the airport. I think it was a trip well done.

STYLE REPORT

by Tara Hanover

Hello, I am Tara Hanover. Yes, it’s a bit weird that I am introducing myself to you since I have been writing the Style Report for over 2 years now, but I never realized that somewhere along the way, even though I teach seminars on “branding” that my brand had changed. I hosted an AMAZING fundraiser last month for MUST Ministries summer lunch program or should I say “Tara Hill” did. As the social media started circulating I started receiving emails and feedback from people in the community asking if this was me (huh?)....You see I started working at my first television station in my first “grown up job” 20 years ago. Tara Hill was the celebrity make-up artist, the empowerment speaker, the host and the on-air beauty expert, that was MY BRAND. I was always put together-every hair in place, make-up on with lashes and heels ALWAYS high heels, of course. What I have now realized is that although my job is still the same: make-up artist, speaker, host… I am a different brand especially in my community. I have been married for 13 years, I have 3 AMAZING kiddos, my hair is typically under a hat, I rarely have on make-up unless you catch me after a day at work, shape-wear is non-negotiable when dressing for an event, flat shoes are a must in case I have to chase down a kid, and I am always squealing in on 2 wheels everywhere I go. I am Tara Hanover, the crazy, working, volunteering, married mom of 3 and I am totally in LOVE with my new (not so new) brand! So this leads me to a couple of question for you... What is your brand? Do others see you as you see yourself ? Jeff Bezos, CEO & founder of Amazon said. “Your brand is what other people say about you when you are not in the room”. What do you think they are saying about you? Maybe you care, maybe you don’t. “The New York Times” refers to Dan Schawbel as “the personal branding guru”. He says, “the clothing you wear, to how you behave and interact with other people, to your body language, everything is tied to your overall brand. If you don’t brand yourself first, someone else will brand you! So here is my suggestion. Take a quick look at yourself. How’s your grooming? Your hair, skin, nails and wardrobe…If you are happy with it then OWN it. This is your brand! Next ask yourself this question: What do I want to be known for? Perhaps you’re ready for a change, a new brand? If so, I say, GO FOR IT! Either way, be confident in who you are, and remember YOUR BRAND is what makes you special and different from all of the others!

“They laugh at me because I am different, I laugh at them because they are all the same.”

Are You Looking For A Fun And exciting PLAce to VoLunteer?

Actually, I am still laughing because no one knew who I was...Goodbye Tara Hill, hello Tara Hanover!

Kiwanis Club of Marietta Supports Education in a Big Way by Kay P. Morgan

Education has never been more important than in our rapidly changing and expanding world. The future leaders of business and government are sitting in classrooms across the nation soaking up the knowledge they will need to navigate the constant innovation. But that concept is too often lost on a group of students who may not have the resources or encouragement to succeed in school. To ensure that as many of our children as possible graduate from high school, the Marietta City Schools and the Kiwanis Club of Marietta have teamed up to provide essential support starting at the elementary level and following through until graduation. Graduate Marietta is a multi-tiered effort to provide the students of Marietta the skills and resources they need to successfully complete their high school studies and continue on to a higher education. The first step is the establishment of several Scholastic Reading Oasis Centers geared towards elementary school children. Each Reading Oasis is colorfully decorated with a mural, rugs, beanbag chairs and shelves and shelves of books to encourage a love of reading. Fully funded by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta in partnership with Scholastic, each one sparks excitement when the children enter and find a world built just for them full of books to read and enjoy. One of the most meaningful aspects of the Graduate Marietta initiative is the focus on technical literacy. Each year, between 18 and 25 students at Marietta High are chosen to receive a Technology Scholarship. With funds provided by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta, each student is provided with a laptop comput-

PAGE 12

er and an internet connection in their home. To qualify, the student has to be nominated by a teacher and have a documented need, along with a minimum 2.5 GPA and be on track to graduate. “Prepared graduates lead to a knowledgeable workforce,” commented the Club’s Past President Mary Staley. “I am enthusiastic for the students and what they will do to make the world a better place.” As an added benefit, the program includes a technology training and repair center at MHS so that students do not have to agonize over computer problems. Students report that they are able to spend significantly more time researching and writing papers. Before receiving the laptop, most had to skip lunch and stay after school to use the library’s limited number of computers. They have also been able to complete college applications and turn in their homework online as required. It is especially gratifying when they can share the technology with their siblings and parents. As an added incentive to work hard and succeed, the student gets to keep the laptop upon graduation. All of these efforts come at a cost. To date the Kiwanis Club of Marietta has raised $228,000 for Graduate Marietta. The two major fundraisers are the Light the Way Night Golf event held at the Marietta Country Club where participants play with glow-in-the-dark balls. Dubbed as the ‘2nd Most Fun You Can Have in the Dark,’ this event is open to the public each fall. The other major fundraising event is the upcoming Light the Way 5K road race. Also a nighttime event, this race begins and ends at Marietta High School and is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. For more information or to register, please go to www.lighttheway5k.com. It takes a community effort to provide the amount necessary to fund such an ambitious program, so please consider participating in one of the events fundraising events. As Past President Bobby Tharpe remarked about the high achieving students receiving assistance, “If you could be this good without your own technology, how good can you be with it?” The Kiwanis Club of Marietta is a civic organization dedicated to making our community a better place to work and live. If you are looking for someplace to pay your civic dues and want to consider joining, or would like to make a contribution to Graduate Marietta, please contact our Executive Director Pat Huey at pathuey@comcast.net.

10 Pieces of Advice for the Graduate

It’s a

by Jennifer Bonn

new 55+

At this time of the year, students all over the country are preparing to start a new adventure as they have just graduated either from high school to college or college to the work force. Major life changes are more than likely in their futures as they embark on these next steps. The following are my top ten pearls of wisdom to help with these transitions.

TAKE IT SLOW Savor the new experiences and take the time to enjoy the changes and new adventures. If you enter this new chapter of your life with fear and trepidation, you will miss out on some valuable moments.

BE THE CALM IN THE EYE OF THE STORM, NOT THE STORM CLOUD

A new concept in carefree, maintenance-free living.

Whenever there is change and new beginnings, there is bound to be some stress and upheaval, but remember you always have a choice on how you will react to each situation.

ASKING FOR HELP IS A SIGN OF WISDOM, NOT WEAKNESS Ask the experts instead of making life more difficult by trying to do everything yourself. The people in your life will feel honored that you’ve asked for help.

STAY IN CONTACT WITH YOUR CONTACTS Relationships are everything in life; so when you have a good one, keep it. Even if it takes more effort because someone is not by your side all the time, it is will be worth it. We need community, and the more positive relationships we have, the better off we are.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING Your attitude can affect everything you do. How you approach and react to a situation is your choice and it can completely change the outcome. This also has a pretty big effect on the people around you.

COMING EARLY 2018 To Kennesaw

FAILURE WILL TEACH YOU VALUABLE LESSONS FOR SUCCESS As hard as this lesson is to accept, it is true that we learn from failure. Yes, it hurts, but you just have to keep getting back in the game. Perhaps try a different approach. The only true failure is giving up.

SERVING OTHERS MAKES YOU A BETTER PERSON I truly believe that we are meant to help each other. When we can direct our attention beyond ourselves to others, it teaches us how blessed we are. It also makes us feel good when we can extend those blessings to others.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT TO BE STUPENDOUS Instead of worrying that someone will discover your weaknesses, discussing them with others can be therapeutic. You will also probably find that others have the same weaknesses and concerns. Being transparent about your imperfections is liberating and endearing.

YOU CANNOT FIX TOXIC PEOPLE MOVE AWAY FROM THEM Surround yourself with people who make you laugh and lift you up.

Our Town

A Father’s Life

Our family does not do well with “highlighted” days. What are “highlighted” days you might ask? Well, they are typically days that have been given emphasis by others and are therefore expected to be given emphasis by us. An example would be Father’s Day. Father’s Day has a long and rich history…NOT! It was basically a 20th Century afterthought following the successful establishment of another “highlighted” day, Mother’s Day. Everyone knows that men cannot stand to be bested and it was only a matter of time that those who controlled the calendar would add a day celebrating men merely a few weeks after the women were given special consideration. I mean, why should women be the only ones to benefit from goofy cards and bouquets of flowers? It was the adult way to say “naneee naneee boo boo” back to ladies on the playground after they scored in a game of sexist kickball. And therein lies the problem; how should you celebrate a Father?

I have friends who demand that on Father’s Day they be allowed to celebrate the day essentially NOT being a father, either by playing golf, fishing or otherwise glued to some exercise that does not include the usual duties of Fatherhood, like taking the kids golfing, fishing, etc… I, however, fall into the category of Father’s that take a hard look in the mirror and when asked what they would like to do on Father’s Day say, “I guess be more like a mom?” You know, spending time with the rug rats, doing laundry, wiping noses, scolding and generally doing the same things their mother does with them every day, but that I am given the privilege of missing because my boss expects me to show up most days of the week. Each day I am given a Father’s Day welcome when I return from work as all the kids run to the door to greet me with hugs and yells of “DADDY!” My wife, however, gets to enjoy the daily grunts and groans of forcibly removing the children from their beds and then the pouty lips and screams as she tries to get them back in bed later that day. Each day I am looked upon with respect and fear because Daddy’s voice is the loudest and Mommy

PAGE 16

by Mark Orler

makes sure nobody disrespects Dad. Sadly, because they see Mommy so much during the day she is not granted this luxury.

And finally, each day I am given a Father’s Day because I am there. It would be impossible to truly say that I could be celebrated as a Father if I were not ever-present in the lives of my children. I am blessed beyond measure that I am given the chance, to enjoy, to scold, to fail and to generally be a horrible parent in the eyes of a misbehaving child each and every day. So no Virginia, there is no Father’s Day, there is a Father’s Life and that is what we should celebrate. But that doesn’t mean I won’t turn down a steak dinner that Sunday…just saying.

OUTPATIENT TOTAL HIP AND KNEE REPLACEMENT by D. Hodari Brooks, MD Good afternoon! I am a board certified orthopedic surgeon practicing in the greater metropolitan Atlanta area. An important part of my practice is performing total hip and total knee replacements. I wanted to give my readers an update on some exciting changes and opportunities in joint replacement.

In the past, as many of you are likely aware, when we performed a total hip or knee replacement, the patient typically came in the day of surgery and would stay three or four nights in the hospital before going home. Fortunately over the past several years there have been improvements with anesthesia techniques and importantly there have also been improvements in some orthopedic techniques. I have focused a large part of my practice on helping to develop and refine these techniques in order to make the experience of joint replacement surgery much more enjoyable for my patients. In particular with hip replacement, I perform the direct anterior or the “front” approach to the hip. This approach causes much less muscle and tissue dissection and results in less pain for patients. In addition, the patient has no postoperative positional restrictions with this approach. While this approach is a technically harder approach to perform I feel it represents a significant advantage for my patients. As a result I have been performing anterior total hip replacement in our surgery center on an outpatient basis for many patients. With outpatient joint replacement, patients will have surgery in the morning and be able to go home by early afternoon. This means that patients do not even have to go to the hospital! In addition to hip replacement, total knee replacement can also be done on an outpatient basis in the surgery center. One key to this is that I have been able to eliminate or drastically reduce tourniquet use during knee replacement, through a variety of innovative techniques. Thus the quadriceps pain that patients typically have after knee replacement is virtually eliminated. In addition very light sedation is required which significantly reduces post operative nausea and stomach upset which is often seen in the post operative setting. Similar to outpatient hip replacement, patients are able to go home by 4 pm the day of surgery. Postoperatively all joint replacement patients are encouraged to participate in physical therapy immediately in order to help expedite the rehab process. I allow left sided joint replacements to drive at two weeks, and right sided patients anywhere from 3-4 weeks. Return to work is dependent on the specific type of work performed but many people can be back to a light duty type occupation in 3-4 weeks.

While not all patients are candidates for outpatient joint replacement in the surgery center, for a significant number of patients this represents an exciting new option for their surgery. Most importantly, having a joint replacement in an outpatient surgery center is very safe when performed by experienced surgeons. If you feel that you are interested in outpatient joint replacement I recommend you discuss it with your orthopedic surgeon or research a surgeon such as myself, who does perform outpatient joint replacements. And remember; don’t deprive yourself of quality of life. If arthritic joint pain is limiting you, make a commitment to at least discuss treatment options with your orthopedic surgeon. Life is too precious to have pain controlling you; so make yourself a promise to take control of your pain. D. Hodari Brooks, MD OrthoAtlanta www.dhodaribrooks.com

Closing Day Question:

June Chores for Your Georgia Garden

“How Do I Get My Money To The Attorney?”

by Becky Griffin - Center for Urban Agriculture • Georgia UGA Extension It is June the official start of summer, and a very busy time in the vegetable garden. We have complied a list of chores to add to your list to keep your garden in peak condition. According to UGA’s Vegetable Garden Calendar:

1.

Harvest vegetables such as beans, peas, squash, cucumbers and okra regularly to prolong production and enjoy peak freshness.

by Gillen Joachim - GANEK WRIGHT MINSK PC www.titlelaw.com

“They say money can’t buy everything. But, it is pretty important when you are buying a house.” -Gillen Joachim There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to a home purchase; movers, utilities, pets, kids, schools, signing documents, and oh yeah, the money. In Georgia, any amount over $5,000.00 that is required for the purchase and sale of real property must be in the form of a wire or other “Good Funds.” This is in fact a law in Georgia, which can be found at O.C.G.A. Section 44-14-13.

2.

Eat “high on the hog” this month and in July and preserve enough to last during the winter months.

3.

For best results, harvest onions and Irish potatoes when twothirds of the tops have died down. Store potatoes in a cool, dark place and onions in a dry, airy place.

4.

Our firm sends out wiring instructions to all parties in our initial communications. Recently there has been a rash of reports where agents’ emails have been hacked or ghosted (a fake but similar email address created) and “updated” FAKE/SCAM wiring instructions are sent to a buyer. It is imperative to independently call and verify wiring instructions for your closing attorney.

Clean off rows of early crops as soon as they are through bearing and use rows for replanting or keep them fallow for fall crops.

Additionally, there is a process similar to wiring called ACH transfers. These are not considered Good Funds in Georgia and should not be used to send funds for a real estate purchase.

5. Water as needed. 6. Plant sweet potatoes and a second planting of Southern peas. PAGE 21

If the funds are less than $5,000.00 it is the closing firm’s discretion to accept funds in a form other than a wire.

As always, at Ganek, PC we have trained and helpful attorneys and staff to assist you with questions on this or any other topic related to real property purchases in Georgia. 678-247-1157 MARIETTA OFFICE

HOT OFF THE PRESS:

New Eczema Treatments are Here! I’m sure you have heard of eczema or know someone with eczema. But do you know what it is? Atopic Dermatitis, more commonly referred to as eczema, is an itchy rash that begins in childhood and usually presents periods of clearer skin and periods of inflamed, dry skin. The cause of atopic dermatitis is unknown. You do have an increased chance of experiencing atopic dermatitis if someone in your family has eczema, allergies, or asthma. Atopic dermatitis worsens with contact from irritants, cold winters, dry weather, excessive sweat, and emotional stress. The impact of food allergies on eczema is still controversial. The dry patches of eczema typically affect the face in infants and the elbow and knee folds in older children and adults. Some children outgrow atopic dermatitis, while some children develop hand or eyelid eczema as an adult. Traditional treatment options for atopic dermatitis include topical, oral or intramuscular corticosteroids, barrier repair creams, and immunomodulator creams like pimecrolimus and tacrolimus. There is no cure for eczema but we now have exciting new treatments for patients that were not available before. Eucrisa, a crisaborole ointment, was approved in January 2017 for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in patients 2 years and older. Eucrisa is a nonsteroidal topical that treats eczema in a different way than the traditional steroid topicals, and does not have the side effects that are linked to long-term steroid use. Also, Eucrisa can be used in the hard to treat areas like the eyelids, groin, and hands. The results are truly amazing: patients see results as early as day eight of treatment! Another exciting, new treatment for atopic dermatitis in patients 18 years and older is Dupixent (dupilumad). Dupixent is the first injection approved for atopic dermatitis and is indicated for uncontrolled moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. Dupixent is injected every other week and can be used with or without topicals. Patients have a statistically significant decrease in that aggravating itch and improvement of the rash within two weeks! Side effects include an injection site reaction and a treatable conjunctivitis or “pink eye.” If you or your child is suffering from atopic dermatitis or for evaluation of an itchy rash, please call and schedule an appointment at Kayal Dermatology and Skin Cancer Specialists at (770) 426-7177.

Pet Safety

by Amber Burckhalter

I got my driver’s license and first car when I turned 16. Freedom had finally found me and boy was I ready! In preparation of that day, and even beyond, I have fond memories of my father teaching me about car safety, how to change a tire, check the oil and what every well-prepared person should have in their emergency kit tucked safely in my car trunk. Always check the batteries in the flashlight, never drive in ice or snow (I was raised in the South) and always keep more than a half a tank of gas in your car. Safety first! 1600 Kennesaw Due West Rd., NW #507 • Kennesaw, GA 30152

770-419-0362 • Fax 770-419-8891 • kennesawvet.com

In addition to Father’s Day, June is also National Pet Preparedness Month! So, in homage to father’s giving car lectures and placing well-stocked safety kits in trunks, before everyone had cellphones and Google maps at their fingertips, we’ll look at what every well-versed dog owner should keep in their handy dog-safety kit. 1) PET FIRST-AID BOOK - Yes, we know - “I can Google it!” Unless the internet is down, you are miles into a hike in the mountains or your phone battery dies. Get a pet first-aid book for the time when you really may need the information. 2) PHONE NUMBERS - You can normally find these on your smart device, but there is never any harm in having these numbers printed and in the kit. Think about what your dad would say: plan to succeed or prepare to fail. Important numbers may include your veterinarian, the nearest emergency -veterinary clinic along with directions and a poison-control center or hotline, such as the ASPCA poison-control center, which can be reached at 1-800-426-4435. 3) DOCUMENTATION – Carry proof of rabies and other vaccines, copies of important medical records and a current photo of your pet (in case he gets lost). A nice waterproof container or zip-lock type bag is a good idea. 4) A NON-SLIP LEASH - These are great to use in the event of locating a missing dog without a collar, or if your dog loses their collar. These leashes will work as both a leash and a collar.

$1 NEW PATIENT NOSE TO TAIL EXAM Call (770) 419-0362 to reserve your exam today. Limited spots available…and they fill quickly! Find out more at kennesawvet.com

5) SELF-CLING BANDAGE - Think Ace bandage meets Band-Aid. This bandage stretches and sticks to itself, but not to fur, and is a must for everything from puncture wounds to injured paws. By the way, never use tape for human injuries on fur. 6) BITE PREVENTION – While none of us believe our pet would harm us, animals in pain often behave differently and may become aggressive. A muzzle or strips of cloth to prevent biting is very useful when helping an injured pup. Remember - do not use this if your pet is vomiting, choking, coughing or otherwise having difficulty breathing. 7) STYPTIC POWDER - This little container is a true blessing in the event of a torn nail or a tiny nick that will not stop bleeding. One container can last for ages, but is not appropriate for use on serious wounds. 8) A DIGITAL THERMOMETER - You may need to check the temperature of your dog, for a variety of reasons, so keep one of these in the kit. The batteries usually last a long time, but check it occasionally to make sure it works. 9) GAUZE OR COTTON BALLS WITH ANTISEPTIC - For small nicks, cuts or scraps. Soap and water is always effective, of course, but antiseptic is good for handling germs when water is not readily available. Other ideas may include certain medications. Make sure to discuss with your dog’s veterinarian what medication they recommend be added to your pet’s kit. Many human medications are dangerous to dogs, so never give any medication without speaking to a veterinarian first.

While you can certainly get more items than these to build a serious bug out, pet preparedness kit, most of us will pass the Dad test with a simple kit that includes these items. Keeping them in a water-proof container is ideal and checking the kit yearly, or after a big trip, should become a habit. Make sure to always have your dog see a veterinarian in the event of punctures, serious wounds or injuries or if they ingest anything unusual. To all the Dads out there who helped make sure we had a well-stocked emergency kit and knew what to do with it: Thank You and Happy Father’s Day!
