In early April of 2008, a small study was published in the medical journal called Metabolism. It should have been an international sensation. There should have been Nobel prizes and a triumphant press conference... because the study revealed a shockingly effective new way to help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. But instead of alerting you to this powerful new discovery when it happened, BIG PHARMA quickly swept it under the rug. Well today we’re breaking the silence, and we can promise once you learn this natural “Hushed-Up Blood Sugar Secret” your health and energy can SOAR!

What if You Had a “Watchdog” In Your Bloodstream… That watched your blood sugar like a hawk and instantly sprang into action whenever your levels get towards the high side of normal? What if you KNEW your blood sugar would stay right in the middle of the healthy range—and you could go on with your life and not have to worry about it so much? That’s just a small taste of what’s in store for you. This discovery is so exciting you may never worry about keeping healthy blood sugar again... When researchers gave this extract to people and monitored their blood sugar, something almost unbelievable happened. Fasting blood glucose improved—in just 90 days. That’s FAST, but that’s not all; the extract also improved A1C levels— which means it could help maintain healthy blood sugar over the long term, too. One natural compound that improves fasting glucose levels—AND helps keep your numbers steady over time...not to mention these benefits come WITHOUT side effects! Just imagine how fun your next checkup will be. These are the kinds of results that make your doctor say, “Wow! What exactly are you doing?”

And If You Ask Our Clients Whether Or Not THORNE BERBERINE-500 Really Is As Miraculous As We Say It Is, They’ll Have This To Say: “My triglycerides are down from the 250’s to 111, my LDL is down to 77 from the 150’s and my glucose is maintained in the 90’s. I no longer take Metformin and with the only two other pills I still take – my doctor said she’ll stop them soon.” – James G, Acworth “After nearly 20 years as a Diabetic, insulin has never controlled my numbers. I would always fluctuate to 300 and even at times 400’s. Since taking your Berberine my numbers steadily dropped from 270’s and my last reading was 132. I have been able to cut back on insulin without crashing …will be seeing you again soon.” – Alan F, Marietta

“In the past my glucose readings have always stayed between 180 - 200 even while taking Glipizde & Metformin. But now, if I halfway watch what I eat my readings are around 105-118 after taking Berberine.” – Greg R, Kennesaw “Just wanted you to know the Berberine has been a perfect substitute to my prescriptions. I no longer need them since taking the Berberine and watching what I eat. You’ve helped me more than any doctor I’ve been to.” – Steve H, Acworth “Ever since I started your Berberine, I’ve never had to worry about my blood sugars. It took my numbers below what Metformin could so I quit taking it. I always used to feel bad when I took Metformin but since taking Berberine all my numbers run good and my doctor has no complaints! I never run out of this.” – Tom C, Hiram “The pharmacist recommended I try this to avoid going on another blood sugar med. I was taking Metformin and 2 other pills, but after being on this for a couple of months I’ve been able to duplicate my readings even while stopping all 3 of these meds. Won’t tell my doctor about the change I’m making until I get my next A1C.” – Kira W, Acworth

The Good News Is, No Matter How Much of a Wreck Your Diabetes Has Been No matter how out of control your sugar levels are or how little you exercise or how much weight your doctor says you must lose, you’re getting your second chance right now! Taking THORNE BERBERINE-500 will result in the peace of mind that comes from KNOWING your blood sugar is staying healthy. And I want to save you time and money by letting you know that THORNE BERBERINE-500 is the ONLY product that’s going to give reliable results. Even others that say “berberine” on the bottle will likely make your blood sugars worse. Don’t believe this will work? GET OUT YOUR GLUCOSE MONITOR and take our 90-day money back challenge –you’ll see for yourself! If you do not see results, simply return your empty bottle and we will cheerfully refund every penny you paid. Get the THORNE BERBERINE-500 today for just $31.98 and we guarantee you’ll ACE your next A1C exam. George and Rotricia Coley moved to Smyrna almost 15 years ago and have truly made Smyrna home raising their 3 beautiful children. This year marks 17 years of marriage for George and Rotricia. The Coley’s are big sports fans. Football season is intense, as time must be allocated to cheer on their alma mater, Auburn, or the one and only Atlanta Falcons. Their love for tennis brings the entire family together on the courts even after school. On most days Alex (10) can be found with a ball in his hand whether it’s a football, basketball, or golf ball. Madison (8) enjoys gymnastics and swimming where she just recently placed 1st place in a local swim meet. Andrew (5) considers himself a Lego master builder and is convinced he can do as much if not more than his siblings. The Coley Crew attends Nickajack Elementary. With 3 kids there, George and Rotricia spend countless hours volunteering to support the awesome Nickajack family. George works for Spalding as a senior business manager. Sports and entertainment is a big part of his life both personally and professionally. When not engaged in sports, George is planning his next travel adventure. Rotricia is an event designer at her own firm helping folks celebrate in style with those that matter most to them. Her firm is known for their elaborate themed desserts tables. When not trying to convince her hubby to tag along on his next travel adventure, Rotricia spends her “free” time exploring photography. Her passion is food photography and capturing the beauty that surround us everyday. If you don’t catch the Coley’s on the tennis courts, be on the lookout for them at a local basketball court, field, or walking trail.

WHY I CHOOSE PRITCHARD BUILDERS “Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love, brought together under one roof.” I often think of this Nate Berkus quote when I get the joy of introducing a family to their new home. Truly, one of the greatest reasons I love my work is knowing that I have helped a family find not just a home, but the home. The home that tells their story. Some families, however, don’t find that home already on the market. This is when I refer them to my good friend, Steve Pritchard.

Tech Dad

by James Floyd Kelly

When my youngest son was 2, he had this little scooter that he loved to ride around our cul-de-sac. He had to push himself forward on it, and this action caused the toes of the shoes to wear out fast. Toddler shoes aren’t cheap, and he was also a bit picky about his shoes. Trying to find a way to extend the life of his shoes became a mission. I’ll tell you how I solved it after three questions and a short story. First question: Do the chargers for any of your electronics devices sometimes break near the plug or become frayed? For some reason, the more expensive the device, the more likely the adapter/charger is made from something cheap. It makes sense that manufacturers will try to cut costs wherever they can, and I think many people just assume that it’s normal to buy a replacement charger for their tablets or phones when the original wears out. Recently, my iPhone charger developed a break in the rubber covering near the plug. I’ll include a photo here for you to see. Rather than toss it and buy a new one, however, I opened up my fridge and pulled out a packet of Sugru. Second question: What is Sugru? Glad you asked. I met the creator, Jane ni Dhulchaointigh (yep, that’s her name – she’s from Ireland), in California about six years ago when she was showing off her new invention at the Bay Area Maker Faire. I was blown away by this stuff – it’s a moldable, waterproof material that bonds to just about anything but when it cures (after about 24 hours) it retains a rubber-like consistency instead of hardening like clay. I’m serious – this stuff sticks to just about everything! Wood, metal, glass, ceramics, leather, plastic, and much more. And this ability to bond to most materials makes it perfect for repairing things. Many of the uses that Jane demonstrated involved joining two different materials and keeping them together. Over the years, fans of Sugru have come up with all kinds of ways for using the material, and you can view a library of uses by visiting and clicking on the “Uses & Projects” button.

You’ve probably already guessed by now that the solution to my damaged iPhone charger involved Sugru. I opened one of the tiny packages; as you can see in the photo, each package contains a small gum-sized amount of Sugru. You can roll it and stretch it and flatten it… it’s stays flexible for about 30 minutes. I put the thin cord in the middle of the Sugru and then wrapped it up and smoothed the seam. Some careful smoothing around the end of the plug was needed, and then I let it sit for a day. Now, the cable is sealed and still flexible! A $3.00 packet of Sugru saved me $10-30 since I didn’t have to buy an official Apple charger or a knock-off. And now let me return to my son’s shoes. Sugru comes in ten colors – black, white, blue, red, green, yellow, orange, brown, silver, and pink. You can mix colors, too. The rubber toes of my son’s shoes were a distinct gray color, so I took a bit of black Sugru and mixed in little bits of white Sugru until the color was a match. I then placed the piece of Sugru over the holes at the tips of both shoes and blended the edges into the meshlike cloth material. The Sugru lasted just as long as the original rubber tips, but only cost me a few $ instead of a new pair of shoes. (I even got some free Sugru sent my way when I shared my success on Sugru’s website.) Third question: Why did I pull the Sugru out of my fridge? (You did catch that, right?) Sugru has a shelf life that’s printed on the tiny packet (usually about a year), but storing it in the fridge is supposed to extend the life of an unopened package up to 3x as long. You can buy the various colors of Sugru over at, but if you’re okay with plain black, they sell three packets of black Sugru for $10 at Target in the hardware area where you find glues and tapes. Reset to Healthy Dispelling the Myths of hCG The hCG protocol, first developed by Dr. Simmeons in the early 1950’s, has been utilized for more than 60 years. Despite this, fact there is still much controversy surrounding the diet. hCG Weight Loss Atlanta is a medical weight loss facility specializing in the use of hCG for weight loss. We have been administering this protocol since 2009, completing more than 12,000 treatments. Based on current scientific data and our extensive clinical experience, we would like to shed some light on this “controversial diet” and separate fact from fiction. 1. What is hCG and how does it work? hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. In the presence of hCG, the body releases fat from abnormal fat stores (hips, thighs, and abdomen) thereby allowing for the survival of the fetus during times of famine. We use this fat-releasing effect in conjunction with a fat-burning (ketogenic) diet. Essentially, with hCG, we are able to do the Atkins diet without the consumption of dietary fat.

2. Does hCG cause harm or have any side effects? We are confident hCG isn’t harmful since patient hCG blood levels obtained during the protocol are exponentially less than what a woman experiences during pregnancy. The only side effect directly attributed to hCG that a small percentage of our patients (about 15%) experience is some menstrual irregularity.

3. How long can you stay on hCG? Patients start to develop a tolerance to hCG after 6 weeks and weight loss slows significantly. We recommend a 4 week break after 43 days to dissipate the tolerance before restarting the protocol. Our patients lose weight more efficiently and stay motivated this way.

6. Do you need appetite suppressants during this diet? The use of appetite suppressants is not a necessity nor is it recommended. The fat release from the hCG tricks the body into sensing it has thousands of calories/day available for energy, so hunger is not an issue.

7. I’ve heard you can only eat 500 calories per day on this diet. Isn’t this dangerous? If you ate 500 calories per day without using hCG and being in ketosis, then yes, it would indeed be dangerous. Also, the 500 calorie tagline is a misnomer. The beauty of the hCG diet is you can eat as much food as you need. You simply must adhere to the serving sizes and food options.

8. I have tried numerous diets and lost weight on most of them. However, I have NEVER been successful in keeping the weight off. What makes the hCG protocol any different? Most diets are simply different versions of calorie restriction. The problem with calorie restriction is that it ultimately slows down one’s metabolism. Thus when one starts eating a normal amount of calories again, the weight comes back with a vengeance. The exact opposite happens on hCG. When you come off the diet, you have a higher metabolism than when you started. Furthermore, it has been hypothesized there is a corrective effect on the hypothalamus after taking hCG. The hypothalamus is the gland responsible for hunger, satiety, metabolism, and other functions, so this would indeed make perfect sense. In our practice, 70% of the patients who are successful on the diet are able to stay within 2 pounds of their last injection for years after completing the diet.

4. How much fat loss can one realistically expect to lose on hCG? On a well-designed hCG program, female patients can expect to lose 1/2 pound per day. Less than 10% of this will be from lean body mass. When we combine this protocol with 2 days/week of resistance training, the lean body mass (muscle) loss is almost negligible.

5. Is hCG safe for men to take?

Holidatiyon Promo

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, men lose almost twice the amount of weight as women, and hCG does not cause any feminine side-effects in men.

Stonehaven To Launch an Upper School Program Congratulations to the StoneHaven School! They have recently announced plans to launch an upper school in August of 2020. The school will begin with a ninth grade and will continue expanding one grade at a time until they add a twelfth grade by the 2023-2024 school year. Established in 2004 and located in Marietta since August of 2013, Stonehaven is a classical Christian school focused on the cultivation of Christian virtue and the pursuit of academic excellence.

Why an Upper School? “Classical Christian education offers a radically different approach to education, from kindergarten through twelfth grade,” stated Gordon Hwang, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “The leadership at Stonehaven believes our Christian community desires and deserves a Christ-centered classical school that completes all three phases of the Trivium: The Grammar Phase (K-sixth); The Logic Phase (seventh-ninth); and The Rhetoric Phase (tenthtwelfth). Our children, and parents, have approached the school’s leadership and expressed the desire for an upper school at Stonehaven. There is a significant need not only in our current community but in the metro-Atlanta area for a classical Christian school that serves students kindergarten through twelfth grade.”

Why August, 2020? “Determining when Stonehaven could be ready to begin a ninth grade was a difficult calculation,” stated Brett Edwards, Head of School. “It was not made without significant prayer and deliberation. Stonehaven’s leadership believes an Important component ensuring the success of this launch will be effectively partnering with the school community in establishing a like-minded vision and plan for a Christ-centered classical upper school.” Questions about staffing, facilities, enrichment programs, curriculum, tuition, and much more must be answered between now and August of 2020. Stonehaven will be engaging parents and other school stakeholders extensively to help throughout this process. In addition, the school is excited to find creative avenues for the students to participate in the development of the upper school.

NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR LOWER BACK PAIN By Deitrick L. Cox, MD, OrthoAtlanta As many as 80% of us will experience a back problem at some point in our lives. Low back pain is one of the leading causes of lost work time. Fortunately, many back problems resolve themselves without medical intervention after a few weeks. However, when a back problem persists, impacts standing upright, or causes leg pain or weakness that grows worse, it is time to consult with a medical professional. The most common cause of lower back pain is a sprain, strain or spasm usually brought on by poor lifting technique, twisting and lifting at the same time, slips and falls, or improper ergonomic practices. Incidences of back pain that are not injury or trauma-related may be congenital (found at birth), degenerative, age-related, disease-related, or may be linked to poor posture or obesity. The back consists of more than 30 small bones, or vertebrae, stacked one on top of the other, and separated by spongy cartilage known as discs. Disc disorders are the most common cause of adult low back pain, brought on by injury, wear and tear or age. Other causes include a narrowing of the spinal or nerve canals, arthritic or degenerative changes in the small joints of the back, osteoporotic fractures, and sometimes even infections or tumors. Unfortunately, there are many possible causes of back pain and determining which of these is responsible for your specific symptoms can be difficult. When seeking a medical consultation for back pain, a patient may first seek out their primary care physician, followed by consultation with a spine surgeon. A great first option for non-emergency spine pain is that of a Physiatrist, or a medical doctor trained in the field of medicine known as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or PM&R. A PM&R physician will work together with the patient to understand their needs, conduct specialized medical tests to identify the cause of the pain, and prepare a comprehensive therapy program to treat the condition with non-surgical means.

The goal of the physiatrist is restoration of the patient’s functional level without use of surgical intervention, and without relying on medications to minimize pain. The physiatrist will perform a thorough physical and neurological examination. To help confirm the cause of the back pain, the physiatrist may utilize X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT scan, bone scan, or bone density tests. Blood tests may be used to determine whether whole-body infection is present or arthritis is involved. Physiatrists are also trained in electrodiagnostic medicine, measuring the efficiency of nerve and muscle function. These electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies can help the physiatrist determine the origin or cause of pain.

A conservative treatment plan may include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), a period of rest, passive physical therapy such as massage, transcutaneous electrical stimulation [TENS], heat/cold, and then active rehabilitation exercise, or physical therapy. A variety of spinal injections or procedures may be used to provide pain relief and functional improvement. • englishmans OPEN Monday - Friday 9AM - 5PM • Saturday 10AM - 4PM

Despite these efforts, spine surgery may sometimes be recommended. Selecting a physiatrist who is part of an orthopedic and sports medicine practice providing comprehensive surgical and non-surgical treatment options provides continuity of care. Deitrick L. DECORATING YOUR FRONT DOOR FOR THE HOLIDAYS by Kathy Burns-Millyard With gray skies surrounding your home in early winter, things can definitely begin to look stark and somewhat depressing. But hang a wreath or swag on your front door and your home can spring to life with energy. Cuttings of evergreen are sweet compensation for the leaves that are missing from most of the trees, and the tart hues of winterberries are reminders that nature has not forgotten about color, even though the garden is no longer in bloom. Add wide ribbons and twinkling lights and holiday spirit brims over.

Specializing in Orthodontics for Children & Adults Dr. Meridith Long

The Victorians, who never willingly left a surface unadorned, are sometimes credited with the custom of hanging Christmas wreaths on front doors. In recent years, frontdoor displays have taken many forms, from flashy tinsel wreaths with silver-metallic bows to electric light garlands that spell out “Season’s Greetings”. The most eloquent outdoor ornaments, however, are usually simple and natural, made from the hearty fruit and greenery that flourish while almost all the landscapes hibernates. Winter’s harvest abounds with unexpected textures and shapes, like spiky pinecones and smooth eucalyptus seeds. And the palette is more than the red and green we expect. We do get those colors of course in abundance: scarlet cranberries, blood-red rose hips, crimson Pyracantha and a cavalcade of greenery-silver green eucalyptus, blue-green cedar, deep green boxwood, and the lovely chartreuse and olive green of the intriguingly named Golden Hinoki False Cypress. There is also the tangy purple of privet berries, the spongy gold of kumquats and yellow pods, and the wild red centers of bitter sweet. To make decorations for your front door, you may find all of the raw materials you need growing in your own yard or garden. But if you don’t have access to them, a visit to your local garden center, florist or home store is sure to help you bring the Christmas spirit and beauty to your front door.

As we enter this holiday season, one of the comments I hear most often from moms is, “It’s so hard to get my family to eat healthy, especially around this time of year!” Now let me tell you, ladies, I get it! With pies, cookies, chocolates, candy canes, and all the other traditional treats that accompany this season, it is next to impossible to keep myself from indulging a little too much... How in the world could I expect to keep my husband and kiddos from eating all of those sugar-filled, processed goodies?! Well, here’s the thing: it’s about BALANCE, PLANNING, and PREPARATION. In our house we implement the 90/10 rule... 90% of the time we are grain-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, avoid all processed sugars, and make solid, conscious food choices we are proud of. The other 10% of the time we let ourselves indulge a bit. We splurge for that “pizza night,” organic Thai food, or specialty latte. We can do this because we know that it’s rare, so when it does happen it’s special. That’s called balance. During the other 90% of the time, we are able to stay on track and make wise food choices because we plan and prepare for it. On Sunday night I plan out our meals for the week so I know what groceries I need to get. Then when Monday rolls around, all of our food is in the refrigerator, ready to be cooked, and all I need to do is look at the schedule to see what I’ll be making. I have veggies cut up for snacks and almond flour, honey, and stevia-sweetened chocolate chips on hand in case we have a sudden craving for sweets and need a batch of paleo chocolate chip cookies. The key to making good choices in the moment when your cravings kick in is having already prepared for that moment! Now, that’s all well and good for about ten and a half months of the year... But what about now? The holidays? HOW is it possible to avoid all the junk and unhealthy food this time of year and keep you and your family feeling good with nutritious, healthy treats? Again, it’s about balance, planning, and preparation. Make a decision as to which days/meals are going to be your “10%” and then plan and prepare for the rest! I’ve found that the best way to do this and not feel overwhelmed, especially as a mom with littles that may be picky eaters, is to have a handful of simple, easy to make, delicious recipes on hand that are healthy! Here are two of my favorite go-to’s that are so good your family won’t even know they’re healthy and are so easy to make it will take you less than 10 minutes! CARAMEL DIP: 1 cup coconut oil 1 cup maple syrup 1/2 cup almond butter 1 tbsp vanilla 3/4-1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt Heat coconut oil and maple syrup in a pot on stove or in a glass bowl in oven or toaster oven for a few minutes. (We don’t use a microwave!) Add almond butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt and whisk until smooth. Refrigerate to harden and then ENJOY! MASHED SWEET POTATOES: 3 medium sweet potatoes 1/3 cup maple syrup 3/4 tsp salt 3/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or just cinnamon and nutmeg) 1/2 tsp vanilla Chop and steam sweet potatoes until soft (Approx. 15 minutes.) Once potatoes are soft, mix until smooth (you can use a hand mixer or large mixer, either one will work.) Add syrup, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla and mix together until smooth! These two recipes are also a great option to take to a holiday party or get-together. Your family and friends will love you for bringing such a delicious dish and they’ll love you even more when they find out it’s good for them! These are general crowd pleasers if you’re hosting a large group. For the more adventurous appetites, a strong blue cheese, smoked Gouda or Oka are great choices. Meat: Salami, prosciutto, and hard dried spicy salami are usually staples on an appetizer board. You can refill as needed. Variety is also key here. Don’t be afraid to get creative at the deli counter.

A PURCHASE OF $25 OR MORE Cannot be combined with any other coupon, offer or discount. Expires 12/31/17

Fruit: Anything in season is a bonus, but during the winter the selection can be limited. Grapes, peaches, figs, sliced green apples or pear, strawberries, melon and anything that tastes good with cheese. The more variety the better your board. Cut the fruit into bite sized pieces so it easy for your guests to grab. Dried Fruit & Nuts: Check out the bulk sections in your local markets to find dried apricots, pitted dates, pecans and walnuts. Bread or Crackers: Put out big loaves of rustic bread like Italian, an olive focaccia or a French baguette. Cut a few slices to begin with and leave a knife so people can cut their own. A basket of crackers is also a nice touch. Briny olives and tangy pickles are another perfect addition to the board. Honey: Add a small ramekin of honey with a dipper so guests can drizzle honey on top of their cheese if they’d like. Olive Oil: A small dish of olive oil with rosemary is a perfect compliment to crusty bread. Breadsticks: with a fancy mortadella or pate are optional but decadent nibbles. Use your creativity to arrange the items on the your cutting board or platter. Make sure to leave plenty of small spreaders and cheese knives on your board. Let the festivities begin!

Start Off On The Right Paw! by Amber Burckhalter The holidays are upon us! I always look forward to enjoying the celebrations and time spent with my family this time of year. I also look forward to the influx of puppies that follows Christmas and Hanukkah - little balls of flying fur who are in desperate need of training and socialization and who are trailed by new owners who are sleep deprived and in a bit of shock as to what the cute little puppy has become: a whirling dervish!!! Often, by the time we see these puppies, they are already engaged in some behaviors and habits that the new family is not enjoying so much. So, to help alleviate this somewhat, this month’s article focuses on bringing a puppy in your home and starting off on the right paw. Routine - Every dog needs a routine and puppies need a routine even more! Decide when, where, and how the puppy will get exercise, sleep, play, train and potty. REMEMBER – when, where and how. From there, decide who is responsible for puppy and when. Stick to this routine, even on weekends. Dogs and puppies on solid routines are faster and easier to housebreak, crate train, teach basic obedience skills, and sleep through the night. Puppies on routines are less likely to have behavioral challenges, housebreaking problems, separation anxiety, or destructive chewing. Crate - Use a crate from day one. Dogs are naturally den dwelling animals and most puppies feel much more secure and safe in a crate. It is NOT punishment but, rather, what they prefer. There are many different types of crates from plastic to metal, as well as fabric crates and they all have different pros and cons. Remember that a crate should only be large enough for your puppy to stand up and turn around in as well as lie down, but not so big that it encourages soiling in the crate. Feed your puppy in their crate. Give them safe toys in their crate. Put them in their crate at random times throughout the day and night. The crate SHOULD NOT only be used when leaving, or at bedtime. If you follow these tips, puppy will accept the crate as their own space, will feel safe in their crate and will be safer as well. Food - Make sure to bring home the food that the rescue or breeder has been feeding your puppy. You may choose to continue that food, or you may choose to switch to another brand. If you choose to switch to another brand, make sure you mix the current food with the new food. Gradually switch your pups’ food to the new food over several days to avoid gastrointestinal distress. Choose a high-quality food like those sold at K-9 Coach and make sure to feed the appropriate amount recommended on the bag or by your vet.

Space - The single biggest mistake new puppy owners make is giving the puppy too much freedom, space and full access to the house. Loose puppies are puppies in trouble! Choose a safe area that is puppy proof: no wires, furniture that may get chewed on, rugs or carpets that may be hit with a potty accident or family shoes, etc. You may choose to fence off a portion of your home with baby gates. This is highly effective and easily temporary. When the puppy is not in his or her crate, or with you, they can play safely in this space. Leave safe toys and interactive toys. as well as a small bed for the puppy to lie on in this space. Often, families choose to create this space where they spend time as a family so as to include the new puppy in family time and make sure the family can watch for when the puppy may need a potty break. Toys - Puppies are very curious, exploring their world and teething. These all lead to chewed up legs of chairs and tables, or even shoes! Provide your pup with safe, interactive toys to both entertain them and teach them to chew appropriate items. Toys that can be stuffed with treats or dinner are perfect for interactive play as well as good for teething. Remember to remove any toy your puppy is chewing up or swallowing and to avoid toys that mimic your personal items or your children’s toys. Giving an old shoe, for example, will teach puppy that shoes are acceptable to chew. We look forward to seeing all the new puppies in the New Year and recommend puppies start training very early before any behavioral issues set in or habits take hold. As always, our off-leash puppy classes run year-round and you can start at ANY time once puppy has received their second round of shots and up until they are 20 weeks of age! And, for those of you who may have missed this window, or have an older pup, our Winter Quarter ALL classes will begin in January. So, make sure to visit us and sign-up now.

From our family to yours, Happy Holidays!
