ith outstretched arms above the heavens, the One Thousand Museum is a body of poetry that showcases the distinction of femininity with its sensuous curves wrapped around its exoskeleton and its crystalline glass glazing in the sunlight, like diamonds in the sky. With windows to the world, overlooking Miami's skyline to Museum Park, this residential superstructure is the architectural iconoclast to Miami's culture and commerce district and one of the most prestigious residential addresses in the United States. Museum Park is home to the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science and Pérez Art Museum Miami, with adjacent views from the building to the Port of Miami. Located downtown on the Biscayne Waterfront is the American Airlines Arena and in close proximity to Adrienne Arscht Center of Performing Arts. Over 30,000 square feet of privately designed venues for swimming, socializing, fitness and pampering cater to 83 residences in a six-star lifestyle, abound in 61 levels of open space. The luxurious textures that intertwine throughout the building continually repeat themselves in undulating patterns inspired by the structure's surroundings in unified opulence. The tower is composed of distinct residential zones; duplex townhomes at levels 10-14 from 8,050 sf - 790 m², halffloor residences start from 4,500 sf - 420 m² at levels 15- 49, full-floor penthouse residences from 9,750 sf - 905 m² at levels 50-57, and a duplex penthouse at levels 58 and 59. The museum quality podium conceals the parking garage and creates a dramatic entry. As the tower rises, you can see the beauty of rounded patios with breathtaking views of Miami. The tiara of the building is in the aquatic center and sky lounge. The water drop pattern enhances the sculptural quality of arched interior walls and the facade elevates the experience of panoramic views over the Biscayne Bay, Atlantic Ocean and Miami skyline. From elegant Europeans bathrooms and kitchens by ItalKraft ,to finely crafted closets and interior doors, illuminating interiors and the latest technological advancements in security, Zaha Hadid's unparalleled distinct voice sings through

the One Thousand Museum walls, transferring our human desires into an altruistic art form. Kurt Dannwolf, Principal at O’ Donnell Dannwolf Partners Architects (ODP), the firm that is currently the Architect of Record shares, “Whereas most construction is realtor or developer driven, One Thousand Museum is artistically driven. The ideology of the way in which it is built is to expose the columns, rather than hide them behind a wall. You can feel the impact of the building being held up without the reduction of structural integrity. Glass fiber reinforced concrete panels are used as permanent formwork from levels 15-62 and cladding from levels 01-14. It looks like a giant truss on its side that lies vertically, rather than horizontal. Each floor tells its own narrative. On the top of the building, there is a publicly open residential hall that is offered to its residents in case they want to host a private party. It comes equipped with a kitchen, its own chef and private dining room that has glass on all sides. The genius of Zaha Hadid's orchestration is that the residential space will have a positive social perspective on its city and community. It will be the connective pulse to the city’s art infused culture. Working with the Zaha Hadid Architectural team on this project has been an amazing experience. We speak with them on a daily basis and plan to honor her spirit by executing her plans and carrying out her vision. One Thousand Museum is a high performance building in which will set the bar high on construction for future developments. It will become the future catalyst on how we build. Ten to fifteen years from now it will be still be spoken about and the benchmark on how we encompass design." As the sun shimmers over the Biscayne Bay and dusk ushers in the susurration of lights over this majestic edifice (One Thousand Museum project completion Q4 ‘2017). In the words of Andrew Farris & the late Michael Hutchence (INXS)… “Listen to by the walls -We share the same spaces - Repeated in the corridors Performing the same movements - Storey to storey - Building to building - Street to street-We pass each other on the stairs.” ODPArchitects.com

gniting the night sky, the Galactica Super Nova by Heesen Yachts is the power house of the sea for her prodigious stature, cutting edge engineering, impeccable performance and transit speed. Utilizing Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), a technology conceived by Van Oossanen Naval Architects, in collaboration with in house- specialists, Heesen has been revolutionary for the first in the industry to place in production. The propulsion system consists of two MTU wing engines with fixed pitch propellers and a third central engine with Rolls Royce booster water jet, providing acceleration from 0 to 30 knots in 75 seconds. With 15,000 horsepower (hp), and 70m not only is she notorious for being one of the elite 200 largest yachts in the world, the Galactica Super Nova is the most supercharged in high-efficiency. Receiving accolades for "Best Exterior Design" and "Best Boat" at the '2016 Monaco Yacht Show, world class exterior designer and naval architect Espen Ă˜ino introduced new design elements exemplifying her beautiful lines, while the interiors of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design created extravagant living with sumptuous tastes. Throughout six staterooms, twelve guests are accommodated with the master suite on the main deck, four guests cabins on the lower deck and a VIP ensuite on the wheel house deck aft. In the owner's suite, both the bedroom and bathroom have floor to ceiling onyx panels that extend across the full beam of the yacht. An equilibrium between monochromatic and soft palettes, texture and use of space provide an understated elegance. and teak flow harmoniously in an architectural helix. The standout feature in the interior is the central staircase with a crystal elevator. A hallmark of Heesen yachts is the bespoke details and elaborate instillations embedded into the walls, stairs treads, ceiling and floors. Tender and toys (including a quad ski) are housed in the garage located in the forward part of the hull. Other key features include a 13.500 litres pool on the main deck aft with contra flow system for swimming, a waterfall and integrated Jacuzzi for relaxing, while the glass bottom of the pool allows natural light to filter into the beach club below. At night, LED lighting creates an atmosphere for entertaining. Forward on the main deck, a touch-and-go helipad facilitates guests arrival on board and doubles as an outdoor 20 X 20 ft cinema with surround sound that makes you feel like you're in your own personal I-MAX drive-in movie theater. The beach club is equipped with bar and lounge space that has two-fold down swim platforms. In the evening, an iPad transforms the beach area into a night club with LED light clusters configured to interact with music for a multi-sensory experience and can be adjusted for a romantic evening for two. A spacious equipped galley provides the chef everything he needs to create a five star dining experience. Since 1978, Heesen shipyards have become the staple in construction and sophistication. Their commitment to quality and high performance yachts are unrivalled. Paying every attention to detail, Heesen can pure custom the design of your dreams. THE ART OF ZEN

UNVEILING THE NATURE OF BATES + MASI "Let the design follow the flows and be flexible and adaptable"- David Pearson A Hamptons & NYC based idea-oriented architectural firm that achieves the elements of nature to mellifluously integrate into human habitation, the boundless imagination of Bates + Masi is a kinship between life force and creation, promoting the flow of a unified aesthetic that enhances the dialogue between the environment and the space with a keen eye for the contemporary. World renowned for their craftsmanship and deeply rooted design disciplines, their ambitious projects carry the wholeness of the property, conveying the attention to customized detail that integrate the thoughts of their clients pragmatic desires in an organic art form.

We share an inside look on their current ventures otiluxury.com 45

FAIRFIELD POND The mix of loosely grouped evergreens and deciduous trees "define the characteristics" of the property. Just as the trees, the grouping of spaces become a portamento, each with its own interlude that glides in union. "The ever-changing colors in bloom become a destination" - Paul Masi

GEORGICA COVE The conceptual residential design of the property was to "volumize and intimize". A farmhouse organically connected by a courtyard creating a connection for an extended family, yet tying off the house in small counterparts for privacy. The eye carries you to the heightened vertical board wood planks setting the mood for comfort.

46 otiluxury.com

PALISADES Growing out of the continuous space, an architectural garden of "basement" bedrock from the entrance way into the living area and back into nature serves as a frame to emphasize the detail of lines, creating mystery and opulence to the depth of the property. Excavating the stone out of the landscape, beauty unfolds "like a seed within".

SAG HARBOR SANCTUARY "How do you breathe new life into a 19th century historical landmark and turn it into a residential space? By stripping its repaired layers to uncover the truth, its bones-keeping its sacred sensibilities. It was an archaeological experiment that found hidden gems within its walls. The abnormalities of its trusses illustrates history and recounts the craftsmanship of the shipwrights who helped to construct the Methodist Church in 1836. You can walk the line of its character through the living space where we kept the exposed beams and attached a piece of steel to hold up its structural integrity. Our aim is preserve a piece of history that has been instilled in the community and give it a new-founded life." - Paul Masi

A

merican artist, William Quigley burst onto the scene in 1985 with a breathtaking sold out exhibition that was showcased with the ecclesiastic of Pop Art, Andy Warhol. Since that time, Quigley has been coined the "Cultural Catalyst" of our generation. His artistic éclat is coveted by collectors worldwide and celebrated by his peers for composition of light and color, evoking emotional responses and drawing the viewer into a piece with rhythmic precision. Quigley's technical ingenuity is comparative to a diversity of symphonic expression. From his soulful portraits to serene landscapes, abstract intensities and the "vulgar beauty” of his socio-political anti-racial and anti-crime statements, he captures each canvas with sensitivity. William combines his passions of art with his strong sense of nationalism throughout his narrative in an inspiring and tantalizing demonstrative. OTI: Many artists find a genre and stick to it. As an artist, you perpetually fluctuate between realism and abstractionism, both magnificently and seamlessly. What are your feelings on your ability to master so many types of expression? WQ: I’ve been painting and making a living off my work since 1985. In that time, I have watched not only my world, but “THE WORLD”, change drastically as far as attention spans go. I started painting long before the internet or cell phones. Art, and art making, has changed along with technology. It seems today one does not have to really paint so much to get a statement or message across. In a world filled with fast -paced moving imagery, data, and information made readily available, I still love the challenge of using paint, primarily oil, to convey my thoughts. I think it’s more of a science and magic trick now more than it was before. I still get excited over Vermeer, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, Gorky, Alice Neel, Francis Bacon, Courbet, Guston, Willem de Kooning and even my close friend Marc Chiat- The way they attacked their canvases and painted out their thoughts. I love learning about new artists like Miriam Schapiro and the vast body of serious imagery she has tackled and Clyfford Still. The commercial aspect of art, I think comes much later for most serious artists. Look at Bacon- Not many people were buying his canvases, or even Pollock, for that matter. Now what? $40 million? $20 million? etc. (quigleyart.net in “Available works: Karl

50 otiluxury.com

Hutter Gallery and Abstraction”) I think about other artists work a lot, which leads to a new vocabulary in my own pursuits. Schnabel, Kippenberger, Luc Tuymans… so many. I was using icons like Christopher Columbus and James Watt as metaphors with their biographies written right on the surface like a child in the paintings to show a new found fearless portrayal, reflecting our natural lack of patience for process. I kind of think the reason Basquiat gets so much attention, besides the art world stamp of approval, is not because of the money invested, but because of his rawness at a time when the art world was a bit stoic. Graffiti was all over the walls, subway cars, bars, and canvases in the 80s. It was punk rock influenced. Yet, he broke free because of his desperation to hustle and sell his work. People don’t get that about him. He was constantly selling and aware of whom he was targeting. I think all these factors play into what type of art one makes, and how much information affects its complexity, content and outcome. Since I started painting, I have been incorporating figures on, over, and under the abstraction. Kline, Willem de Kooning, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Guston and the old school work from the 1950s is something that always gets me excited. I like to think I’m trying to keep the chain going. Plus, look at Picasso or Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci. And we haven’t even started talking about the influence medicine and science has had on the paintings, Lol. OTI: Simply put, what is your muse? What in life drives you to create? Is it a moment that you try to encapsulate? Regarding your portraits, since you paint both the famous and completely unknown, what is the particular quirk or character trait of a person that stimulates you? WQ: I’m not married. Wanting the normal life has always been a factor or maybe striving to pretend painting and making a living at it can be considered, “Normal”. I dislike the preconceived notion that if you're an artist, you probably can’t make a living. My goal has always been to go way beyond that theory. I assume Picasso had this incredible confidence in his ability to work hard and make a living, which probably drove him to work as much as he could. I try to look at what I do as a job. My brothersin- law, brother… all of them actually work exceedingly hard. One is a global insurance

guy who travels nearly 5 months a year away from his family. My brother, Michael, works constantly in his auto parts business. My other brother- in- law is a brain surgeon at Harvard. My mother "busted her ass" to raise 4 children. I kind of see what I do as kind of lucky, but never once have I tried to take it for granted. As far as the portraits, since I was very young, 5 maybe; I was drawing cartoons which are all about the facial expression and identity of each character. I never really painted until I went to college. I was at the age of 19 or so, when I made my first painting. It was a copy of Raphael’s “Madonna of the Chair” for a Christmas present for my mother. It took forever because I was using small brushes. When I went to College, I saw all these students carrying giant canvases. Then I went to Rome to study at Tyler School of Art and the world changed. Caravaggio, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Bellini, Durer, Giotto, Titian, Giacometti, the Spanish steps. That was it! The Italian portraits combined with my knowledge of Norman Rockwell and Charles Schultz made me want more. I really don’t consider myself good. I’m always thinking of the next paintings. There are so many great artists, both historically and now, that I look at my own work as “always trying to get better”. Goya, Rembrandt, Picasso, David Velázquez, even Alice Neel, Bellini, Matisse, David Hockney… they are the reasons I paint portraits. I love Jenny Saville. She is an incredible painter, as well as Cecily Brown, Sean Landers (both of whom I went to school with). I always love getting excited by others work. - George Condo. With all this in my head, I’m always complimented when someone asks me to paint them, or paint someone for them. I’m so focused on making a good painting that is original, and having the painting look like the individual I’m tackling. It’s the one stimulant that continues to haunt me or maybe conversely, that I feel good about down deep. Perhaps, it was in 1985 that I painted Lincoln. I was subtlety criticized for painting celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Muhammad Ali and Audrey Hepburn quite a few times back in the early 90s. I even remember one high end NY dealer saying Arnold is not a collector, and painting these portraits is very commercial. After painting Arnold, I looked for other people that were not so much in the “art” limelight like SHAQ. I think I sold him his first paintings. I’d say that purchase made

my career in some sense. Shaq is the greatest guy, and over time has become a giant art buyer and enthusiast. He even did a show called “Size Matters” at the prestigious Flag Foundation in Chelsea (flagartfoundation. org), with his collection “Size mattersShaquille O'Neal.” As far as all the other portraits and the criticisms surrounding them, it seems every young street artist now is painting Ali, Audrey, Lincoln etc. I wonder if they even know who I am? To keep things “honest” I recently painted Paul Giamatti for a lot of reasons, but mainly because no one else has. On the miniscreen, he depicts John Adams, a character, again, I wish to portray in my own work as a metaphoric icon for a “Lost America moving in different directions,” which is now kind of evident by the current election. OTI: You have a deep interest in the civil war and conveying the complexities that are not usually taught, seen or understood by the masses. Voices the world over are unified in belief that there is no social justice without economic empowerment or forward progression. For centuries, artists have understood the power of art as a tool for social commentary. It would seem natural, then, for modern activists to use art as a weapon to fight for just causes. Is there something within today’s society that you wish to expose directly or indirectly through your art? WQ: In 1996 living in LA, I started painting about the Civil War after Spike Lee’s films “Malcom X” and “Crooklyn” came out. In 1991-92 we had the LA riots. I was right there, outside my studio. After living in NY, and feeling all this pressure from crime, racism, (which I detest), etc. … I thought it may be appropriate to compare what was going on in the US now to what happened during the Civil War. Every night on the 11 o’clock news in any given US city there would be countless crimes committed. I used this as motivation to study what really happened in the 1850s and 60s leading up to the Civil War, less than 100 years after fighting so hard for Independence. I kind of think painters don’t take enough of a risk in their work to speak out or use it as a voice. A lot of artists hide behind the esoteric wall of aesthetic theory. Theory is as important as having a unique voice. Studying from great minimalists, Agnes Martin and Mark Rothko, I incorporate captivating content that allows one to digest what the painting is about. I look at my paintings as a novel with messages - deepening the artistic elements in the canvas on how they are created and processed. Ironically enough, my last show in 1996 with Karl Hutter in LA, was all about tradition; nostalgia, the election, and the direction I thought the US was headed. It’s a 32 ft. painting, the same size as Picasso’s Guernica, with a very political message specifically

52 otiluxury.com

about the US. It ends with a portrait of one of my best friends, the late acclaimed jazz pianist genius Paul Tillotson, with whom I painted in March/ April 2016 before his passing on June 17th after a long battle with colon cancer. Paul was a symbol for “ART, MUSIC, how important health, friends and family are, and great memories.” No matter what your politics, LIFE is what matters. How you live it, what you do with your time and what you leave behind. Paul had over 1300 people at his funeral in Sun Valley. There were another 1000 at a celebration in NYC on Nov 1st. He was so, so, so giving. This is why I paint; to meet talent like that. Simply because you are passionate about your own quest, there is nothing seems more precious than great friends to share it with. A collector is simply a new friend who likes what you do and wants to live and enjoy it. I get chills every time someone new buys my work. Besides making the paintings, selling them is the greatest thrill. I sold the painting of Paul to one of his dear friends, Lou Hansell, AKA “Liquid Lou”. Paul called him for $65,000. Due to the sale, I was able to donate $50,000 to my dear friend’s High School Scholarship Foundation which will keep the dream alive for young aspiring students in Boise Idaho. Hopefully the foundation grows like Elton John’s foundation has. OTI: Many abstract artists leave the interpretation to the viewer even though your message is clear while creating. Why have you taken this uncharted route, and do you wish to change the attitude of the viewer? WQ: I strive to be original over all else. OTI: When did you find comfort in your work? Describe your journey. WQ: I started painting in 1985. My first shows were with Warhol. Next with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Pat Steir and David Salle. Then there was Robert Rauschenberg in the 90s and Willem de Kooning in 1991. I lived at the Miro foundation. I’m never comfortable. Like, Woody Allen says, “Not sure in my lifetime I’ll ever be able to complete all is in my head”. I just decided early that if I was going to struggle, it would not be working for someone else. I was moving furniture and art, directing movies and music videos. I worked with Madonna, Prince, David Fincher, Tom Petty, Outkast and that was not enough. I never felt attached to that work. It was a great experience, great meeting all these people…but I used to think if I work hard maybe I can be recognized for what I do, like they are. I learned a lot of tricks, and how so many people go into creating an image, a presence, like Madonna. Yes, “MADONNA”. You can’t do it alone. Painting is a different world though. Ironically enough, when you speak with actors or musicians that are known they are so interested and excited to "talk art". Picasso or Edward Hopper? They don’t want to hear how much you liked them in some movie.

Now, I find so many asking me about my work. I’m always put off guard like they really don’t care. But they do. My own family, with the exception of my mother, really doesn’t see public notoriety or the value in it. I may mention that I’m friends with a certain actor or “whoever”, and my sisters keep saying that I’m dropping names or “come on” etc. But after living in LA and NYC for 30 years you are going to meet a lot of people who buy art seriously and are very interested in the “other art.” WE are not writers. There is a certain mystery and allure surrounding the market, the hype and success. And then, if you think about it - How many people are going to museums daily when they travel to Europe, or almost anywhere in the world? OTI: At your core, you are a philanthropist. What drives your desire to give to your chosen causes? WQ: I donate to as many charities as I can. Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families(egscf.org), Guild Hall(guildhall.org), Children’s Museum of the Arts(cmany.org), Wounded Warrior Project(woundedwarriorproject.org), Soldier Ride(welcometosoldierride.com), B4BC/ Boarding for Breast Cancer( b4bc.org), and Seeds of Africa(seedsofafrica.org). OTI: Your use of color, form, frame and light reflection evokes mood with sensitivity to the subject matter, especially in your black and white portraits. (i.e. Audrey Hepburn-there's a palatable softness to this piece) What is your preferred media? (Oil, pastels, oil crayons, acrylic) WQ: Oil and framing the work is very important to its sculptural quality, like Piet Mondrian or Joseph Cornell. OTI: Define what human luxury means to you? WQ: Luxury, to me, means having the ability to pay my bills. It’s the ability to give money to my mother. It’s paying my taxes. It’s having white canvases ready when I come to the studio. It’s having them framed and then shipped by the buyer. Maybe a fun car to go around in and traveling to foreign lands so I can visit galleries that want to show my work. I do like red wine… and bikinis……lol . OTI: Can u share your passions of other mediums? Fashion, art collecting? WQ: I collect art pretty passionately. However, I also love film, books (I have a pretty serious collection of books, especially Taschen), baseball cards and art. We are working on a documentary with Vice Television Director, Dominic Musacchio and Producer Brian Sullivan for 3 years about my career. Kind of like a “House of style for Art” called NOT QUITE THERE. OTI: What other exciting ventures are you working on? There's talk of a new book… WQ: Yes, we are trying to publish the first large table top book. I’m very excited by this. To view more of William Quigley's art please visit otiluxury.com

he innovational intelligentsia of Anouk Wipprecht in conjunction with Monad Studio, (Eric Goldemberg + Veronica Zalcberg) has teamed up with multi-media performance artist, Viktoria Modesta on their latest project, Sonifica 'Instrumenting' the body. Battling to find her own identity, and pursuing her dreams due to health struggles she encountered as the result of a dysfunctional leg caused by negligent trauma she suffered at birth, Viktoria refused to let impediment rear its ugly head. After voluntarily removing her leg, Viktoria invoked a new genre where science, art, and fashion collide into spectacular aesthetic eccentricity; thus redefining society's preconceived notion of beauty. Her art is routinely used in metaphoric context, empowering others to shine within their own light and be fabulously fearless . Viktoria defines it as "embracing all the bits". "Utilizing ideas as a way to emote an experience through storytelling in performance is very exciting to me. Instead of looking at an augmented prosthetic as a medical device, I could experiment how to adorn the body through functional technology and fashion as an art form and how these objects not only can be worn, but the systematic role they would play in pop-culture." -VM OTI : Who is the Anouk Wipprecht client? AW: I collaborate with both private clients and performers within the industry,(Google, Microsoft, Audi, Circque Du Soleil) which gives me the pleasure to engineer different end uses, using different technologies that get embedded into digitized fashion statements. My designs are like case-studies to me, how a different design gets connected to the body in a different way and interfaces with the user and its surroundings. OTI: What inspired you about working on this project collectively with Viktoria Modesta and Monad Studio? AW: The trajectory of collaboration with Viktoria Modesta and Monad Studio drives me to dive into a new field. Viktoria and I got introduced through two mutual friends, Becca McCharen of the NYC based-label Chromat, (chromat.co) and Sammy Payne of Open Bionics. (openbionics.com) They literally drove us toward each other. Soon after, Viktoria and I started speaking and she was open enough to share her personal journey with me. What moved me was her capacity to overcome adversity and empower others through her experiences. She continues to challenge other people's perceptions on the mindset of limiting disabilities, a better word is

redesigning possibilities and the impact it has on our social status in culture today. Eric and I have known each other for several years and we share the same interests. I was a spectator of Monad Studio's recent work with 3D printed instruments. With the Viktoria Modesta project in mind, I reached out to Eric with the ideology of researching sculptural pieces around you that you can produce sound with. With his background in architecture and mine in design, we focus on how the taxonomy of sound can provoke the senses. OTI: The fashion industry can be extremely unforgiving and judgmental. We place a lot of emphasis on how people look. What part of fashion is authentic to you and how would you define beauty? AW: What peeks my interest is the expression and communication that's derived from fashion. We wear garments to shelter ourselves from the cold; to protect our skin, to seek comfort and other cultural reasons. Fashion has a total other meaning; to express our mood or translate our identity. I see fashion as an interface, and with that interface you can see what kind of new interactions you can create with it once garments go from being analog to becoming digital or electronic, embedded with sensors and actuators. It's not only the 'beauty' of a garment, but also the 'beauty' of the behavior of that garment. It's not only thinking that garments need to be interactive, but what the behavior is of those interactions. The bigger the context and situation, the bigger the impact. This defines beauty. OTI: In everything that you create there's a sensory and emotional component with your designs. What is it about how we perceive and communicate with each other that pushes your design ideologies? Are you an observer of people? nature? AW: Yes I am of both. I formulate ideas through observing things around me, but I think we all do. I want my garments to augment the interactions we have with ourselves and our surroundings. They are a product of my own interactions and observations with the world around us. OTI: Who is the Monad Studio client? MONAD STUDIO: MONAD Studio is an architecture based firm (Eric Goldemberg + Veronica Zalcberg) that works with a wide range of clients, sometimes responding to specific functional requests and others generating our own program of researchoriented issues we want to raise through design. Much of our work is commissioned by museums such as MoMA or PS1 Contemporary

Center in New York, but we operate dynamically between institutional work and private commissions. The very notion of client is mutating to a mutually engaging creative endeavor whereby, a new identity or a new product is generated collectively and the very nature of the relations evolve with the project in order to surprise ourselves and enter new terrains of transcendental transformation. Our latest sonic projects are mostly for musicians and experimental artists who are willing to understand the body in unique ways, and daring enough to understand these artifacts as entangled prosthetics that bring to the forefront new possible ecological balance. OTI: How do you intertwine the transcendent properties into the technological components? MONAD STUDIO: Technology aids our research in fundamental ways because it allows the extrapolation of our threedimensional ‘visionary’ work into real, tangible constructions whose morphology often defy human cognition; we want to bring forms from the collective unconscious to well organized, consistent and rigorous processes of materialization through the use of 3D-printers and CNC milling machines. We try to stretch the limits of what is possible by hybridizing our architectural and artistic impetus with all possible methods of construction. OTI: I want to speak about the most inspirational component for Monad collaborating on the project with Anouk and Viktoria? MONAD STUDIO: This is an incredible experience that allows us to find common ground in the sonic world as medium and the human body as artistic subject; Anouk, Viktoria and MONAD Studio have the most amazing opportunity to create new dimensions of design geared towards a new way of social engagement through sensation, emotion and healing. We are able to fuse our different capacities and elevate the game to unforeseen organizations of matter that reveal how much we can achieve by entangling our sensibilities and experiment with spatial perception. Viktoria adds a fundamental aspect to the mix; she is a profound artist who can highlight intense visual spectacles captivating the audience and we prepare the artifacts to be used in performance for maximum effect in the psyche. We crave collaborations, we constantly seek that which can amplify our capacities. OTI: What is the emotional motivator of designing instruments/structures that have an impact on those who experience your work?

MONAD STUDIO: MONAD’s sonic sculptures and installations are meant as a metasocial experiment beyond the objects themselves; we are interested in engaging, generating a frictional conscience where aesthetics, rhythmic sensations, pulsation and feedback form a circuitry that propels human cognition to new levels. Our projects need an active audience, they bequest human participation which in itself activates ever expanding ripples of feedback. We basically design very artistic functional objects that in turn empower artists to further inspire an audience unlocking the built-in potentials we design. OTI: Since music is our universal language, how did you come up with the sounds? Are your rhythmic vibrations borrowed from the sounds of nature?

Above: render of 3D printed 'Sonifica' tusk bodice created by Anouk Wipprecht + Monad studio for Viktoria Modesta Below: Titanium Violin Design by Monad Studio( Eric Goldemberg + Veronica Zalcberg) Printed by CalRAM-a company specialized in 3D printing components for the engines of airplanes

MONAD STUDIO: We create the possibility of art; our work sustains the tension that is felt in the very act of artistic creation by building potentiality into these 3D-printed music instruments to provoke the creation of new sounds. We do not conform to normative music instruments; these artifacts are meant to question existent sonic structures and engender new forms of expression! Rhythm is a natural, instinctive guideline for many of our morphologies, shaping sensations that otherwise would be forever locked into the psyche. We bring out a raw primitivism, a fundamental energy that has the capacity to move people, heal and nurture new possible forms of art where sound, vision, touch, space, fashion, architecture, couture, sculpture and theatrics are fused by the instinctively sophisticated approach to pulsatile form. We wish to unlock sounds that traverse from the natural to the artificial milieus aided by technology and limitless inspiration. Nature is always a source, and it is important to understand the mechanisms and processes that effect fundamental transformations of matter; we extrapolate such behaviors into form, both physically and sonically. viktoriamodesta.com anoukwipprecht.nl monadstudio.com

QUOGUE GALLERY SPEARHEADS HAMPTONS RISING STAR AT ART BASEL ALL IMAGERY COURTESY OF LIZ SLOAN

he genesis of Liz Sloan's "5D" (five dimensional) anthology, pulsates with mystery and vibrancy, nurturing, interlocking and counteracting the sphere of activity with a constancy of transformation throughout its notation of interaction, like a ring without a beginning or end. Sloan's "Tinntinnabuli" is characterized in the versatility of material choices and in the accompaniment of her intuitive cyclical arrangements, thickness in the depth of universal manifestation and lightness in her artistic existentialism. The reciprocal interaction of the rings in various proportions change with the cycles of nature, shifting in array of color, form and expressive variation

that resonate with poignant insight. Contributing to the brilliance of these works and Liz's transformable approach to emphasize the functions of elemental energy, her connotative alchemy assigns each aspect of the elements in Japanese Buddhist philosophy imbued by the Kyoto National Museum of Architecture's temples, shrines and gardens and what she refers to as a "discovery period". Sloan shares, "I let the canvas take on a growth of its own through my process. Earth is where I am emotionally in my chi, it's where creation initiates and I am enraptured in my personal journey, painting to the brush of its own life. Water depicts the fluidity

of my brush in the "dappling" of light and reflection of varying colors, shadowing my ability to have flexibility in my work. Fire resembles the tension between smooth and brushed surfaces, while Wind is the movement that carries the eye through the piece. My Ether, or what is referred to as void is in the concise decisions of context in placement. I ascribe to this element as balanced simplicity, intuitively sensing without overthinking the piece. It's when I am most at ease. There's a quiet lesson in it when it all comes together." Gaze into the elemental humanity of Liz Sloan's 5D experience and interpret for yourself.

BAKES & KROPP

Cold Spring Harbor's Alabaster Jewel BY MINDY LAWYER

ive years ago, an immaculate concatenation transpired in the kitchen and cabinet design world, ennobled the standards for the industry as a whole. With much anticipation, this unique summit of design, craftsmanship and elegance is being delivered to the most befitting location on the Gold Coast of Long Island, Cold Spring Harbor. Robert Bakes, the owner and progressive kitchen designer of Bakes & Company had the opportunity to work with Paul Kropp, the renowned and highly respected woodworker and master craftsman of Kropp Woodworking. Realizing their vision and goals were in perfect alignment, they established Bakes & Kropp. Their joint intention was to create a kitchen and cabinet design and manufacturing company that would provide an exceptional product at the luxury end of the market. In addition, they wanted to create an industry “Experience” that was superior to their peers in every way. Bakes & Kropp has been wildly successful at both. With showrooms in both Manhattan and Sag Harbor, and demand for their services and product ever expanding, it was a natural progression to bring their presence to Cold Spring Harbor. They have opened a magnificent showroom and design center in the center of the village. As Robert Bakes expresses “I have to say I’m particularly proud of the Cold Spring Harbor creation. It has a wonderful sense of warmth and texture, and it complements the village sensibility beautifully. The essence of the space is ‘absolute’ luxury. The space is boutique, delicate and balanced, tonally, it’s a journey thru very current softer palates of white, grey and stained wood. Cold Spring Harbor was an important locational development for us as a company. We had completed a number of projects in and around the Oyster Bay and North shore of Long Island area and felt that it was now time for a physical presence. We were lucky enough to team up in this venture with a wonderful independent real estate agency, Lucky to Live Here Realty (luckytolivehererealty.com), and it's a really powerful meeting of 2 great companies with a very clear desire to bring the very best of what they do to the forefront of their respective businesses." Within the walls of this showroom you will discover the exquisite, unmatched design and quality of both Bakes and Kropp’s dream.

White” fills the space with their trademark traditional lines as demonstrated in their Watermark, Meridian, Belleview and Canterbury concepts. However; they have developed the Emerson and BK Cucina ranges to create more progressive, European flavors for the exclusive and perspicacious clientele who have the desire to work with BK, but wish to achieve a more contemporary feel. Both lines are created with exceptional vision producing spaces that have understated luxury. “I’m more inclined to go down the route of less is more; a simpler, more refined approach is how we approach our designing” says Robert. The “Experience” of BK is one you have never experienced before. Robert Bakes states, “We’ve developed a process of dialogue which really seems to make the clients feel ‘included’. The initial design stage is incredibly simple, hopefully creating a feeling that it’s a ‘team’ approach. By doing this, we’ve found that clients feel that they greatly benefit from the very clear line of communication that it brings, and the end result is a true collaboration.” Robert goes on to say, BK has looked at the industry standards for quality, price and performance and taken them as a baseline upon which we need to excel. Our quality is known to be of the very highest, price points are competitive and our performance in terms of lead times and overall experience far exceeds what is considered ‘standard’. We also pride ourselves in our ability to be truly custom, allowing clients to really ‘get’ what they want rather than pick from a ‘menu’. As the client is paired with designers, architects and builders who collaborate on the individual adventure, they are offered multitudes of designs, finishes and products, hardware and accents that form a small, but very important part of the visual dialogue in the finished presentations. The BK spaces are finished with completely custom fixtures and accents. The most miniscule detail of knobs and handles are well thought and complement the overall space. When asked what his “Crowning Jewel” of design has been, Robert’s answer was simple. “From designs we’ve created for clients to the context and presentation of the showrooms, every project has its focal point. I still consider the Cold Spring Harbor showroom to have achieved something a little extra special, and that is our goal every time, for every client.”

outhampton’s prominent custom home builder, Devito & Company is renowned for creating structures to conform to a lifestyle, while maintaining dedication to unparalleled quality and integrity in both their construction and design for over thirty years. Dubbed, "The Love Shack", Devito's latest project on 84 David White's Lane in the center of Southampton Village revisits 60s culture with a neoteric twist. Blending art and innovation, Frank's vision transports us to a time where the "simplicity" of a carefree lifestyle transforms into a unique experience. “When I first saw this house and property, I could only see a beach house reminiscent of the Gidget movies. I saw a 1963 Ford galaxy station wagon with surfboards on the roof, board rack on the front stoop and an entry shower, mixing modern day comforts and today's technology with retro fit fixtures and designs, creating a one-of-a-kind lifestyle estate, "says Frank. Combining the aspects of a split level ranch, signature A-Frame design and the trademark "minimal windows" on the front elevation, your mind is immediately thrown back to “Where the Boys Are” and you hear a little Dave Brubeck swirling through your head. The hipster of the 60’s has been seamlessly blended into this 2016 incarnation. On approach, you notice Devito's skilled craftsmanship in the alluring horizontal, semi-private wood fencing to increase the natural light of the home. It's the "peek a boo”, providing privacy and modesty, while allowing glimpses of the home to be appreciated. The theme of this fencing is carried out throughout the structure providing a very beach- like feel, yet remaining contemporary. This unusual custom home and its surroundings is sheathed in natural, organic materials and accentuated by impeccable millwork. A very unusual accoutrement which was part of DeVito’s initial inspiration is an auto wrapped surf rack and outdoor shower to further enhance the nostalgia. Not only is this unique builder supplied by a photo - documented sustainable yield forest which maintains selective harvesting in the

Amazon rainforest, the Devito & Company "GREEN" commitment to sustainable building is the unspoken symbiosis and collaborative union between ecological preservation and unparalleled style that continues to redefine eco-friendly sophistication. With a team of specialized in-house contractors, their standard of quality exceeds the expectations of the discriminating buyer by reducing unnecessary loss, as well as maintaining the true budget which allows other delightful extras to be included all over the home. The indubitable beauty of this home is that the house unfolds before you gradually, not all at once. Joseph Eichler 's signature concept can be seen in the glass framework of the house by "bringing the outside in", while Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe indebted style comes alive in the exposed beams, casually gliding from interior to exterior and exterior to interior facilitated by its open floor plan in the living room areas and master suite with indoor and outdoor bedrooms. The living room area calls for Dada Barcelona inspired chairs and a Scandinavian boomerang coffee table, where guests can enjoy Martinis and sip on a classic Rémy Martin Old Fashioned. From the second floor common deck, you can appreciate the bohemian feel of the house where it features an oversized swimming pool, hot tub and sun deck for beach bunnies and cool cats to take in the rays and dance the mashed potato. Off the pool house, a sheer-descent cascading waterfall illuminates the mood with a large fire pit glowing behind its curtain. Everyone is awaiting the Big Kahuna to casually roll up in his cherry ride and hold court , chewing the fat and discussing the new possibilities of human spaceflight and how that will forever change the world. ith the transformation of Flagler Village underway, Internationally acclaimed Adache Group Architects have four current projects in the area, with its primary focus to impact, influence and enhance the quality of life. Adache shares, "Adache is dedicated to crafting unique and responsive buildings and spaces that go above and beyond the standard building experience. We plan for the future, while keeping an eye on the past. We stake our reputation and founded our relationships on honesty, trust and respect. In our innovative approach, we question accepted methods in order to improve processes of technology. Operating at the progressive edges of our profession, we believe in the extraordinary power of design to shape the world around us. Leading by example, we provide our clients with projects that are environmentally sustainable and responsible with an expertise in LEED certified projects. Quality is the ultimate measure of value." Among Adache's projects, the new Flagler Village Hotel is the connective pulse to F.A.T. Village, (Flagler Arts and Technology) the immersive art and technology district, in which paves the way for future property investment by real estate developers and members of the creative class, which appropriate their work for economic gain. The 195 room hotel at 315 NW 1st Avenue will have a 100 space parking garage, swimming pool, 2,227 square ft of leading brand and gallery retail space and five star dining encompassing the 200,000 square ft. facility. "Brightline", a brand new rail passenger system connecting major Florida cities with astonishing efficiency at 125 mph, opening in '2017 with its first leg from Miami to West Palm Beach will stop in close proximity to the hotel. In addition; the Wave Street car will pull in to the hotel along its proposed route that Adache integrated, into a welcoming pedestrian experience allowing residents and tourists a unique opportunity to travel without relying on automobiles. The ubiquitous mix of aesthetic and functionality will allow the experiential traveler to take in the locality of its neighborhood. Founded in '2000 by Doug McCraw, owner of the 1950's - style warehouses in the neighborhood, F.A.T. Village was developed from a premise that art and technology could thrive in a collaborative environment. Doug McCraw shares, "The International art, music and theatrical scene was always prevalent among its community, but with development on the rise and innovative transport systems, the spur of economic growth has made

an indelible impact on sophisticated creators and collectors acknowledging Fort Lauderdale's acclaim. Bonnie Clearwater, who is the director and chief curator of Nova Southeastern University's Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale and Francie Bishop Good who is one of the biggest supporters of the art community has given Fort Lauderdale an International following and has made it a must see stop. The Flagler Village hotel embraces and amplifies that vision, heightening our success. I have an amazing team of people I get to work with. This includes my business and development partner, Lutz Hofbauer and my partners and curatorial team, Peter Symons and Leah Brown who are my out of the box think-tank." Adache Group has joined Moss & Associates, general construction for the Fort Lauderdale parking structure at the station facility in a design-build effort where construction has begun. The development is envisioned as a new gateway in Ft. Lauderdale, revitalizing a ragged stretch of downtown straddling the railroad tracks, said Michael Peinger, All-Aboard president and chief development officer. Other projects include: 105 No. Federal HighwayA chic, cutting-edge building located on Federal Highway in downtown Fort Lauderdale. This 3 storey, 36,000 square foot retail building will feature dramatic glass walls soaring 45 feet in height topped off by omni-directional aluminum sloping fascia's. Their residential counterpart is Sistrunk Townhomes - a contemporary, clean line modern three storey 21 unit townhome project. President of Merrimac Ventures, a Fort Lauderdale based real estate firm, Founder and Managing Partner of Ramesh Properties, and Flagler Village hotel developer, Dev Motwani expounds, " Proffering an ultra-luxury experience with the likes of New York, Chicago and LA on a smaller scale, Flagler Village's modern urban simplicity arrives at the ultimate lifestyle destination in a sophisticated setting with its tact advantage of being in a hospitality driven and residential community that coexists between its demographics. The heartbeat of the city thrives on the energy of its people and art-savvy and technological culture without the overburden of traffic. The idea is to get people out of the mall and into a salon setting where people can interact with one another." Current projects of developer Dev Motwani also include the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences, The Gale Boutique Hotel and Residences, as well as Las Olas Riverfront property.
