Dear Big Dish Guests: Welcome to our 7th Annual Big Dish!

The purpose of the Big Dish is to provide an exceptional educational platform through student hands-on planning and achievement of a high-caliber fundraising event, showcasing their efforts and our hospitality management program. The students you see, and with whom you will engage this evening, will gain experience networking, serving, selling and providing genuine hospitality.

This event was planned by a select group of students afforded the opportunity to: train other students, work directly with our partners on sponsorships, gain an understanding of brand standards, and hone their written and speaking communication skills in a professional setting. Importantly, they have also learned how to work through decisions that protect the net profit of our event while delivering value, quality, and a great experience to our guests. The performance of their efforts will be measured through surveys from attendees, partners, student participants and graduating seniors. In this way, we hope you will provide feedback on your experience, helping to ensure that our students will continue to learn from this event.

Just imagine, our Inaugural Big Dish event in 2012 allowed us to raise $17,000. Since that time, with the generous and growing support of our friends and industry partners, we have raised a total of $750,000, which includes our 2018 projections. This success has provided the following:

• An opportunity to engage our students in the hands-on planning and implementation of 12 hospitality and community service events (i.e., Big Dish and Hospitality Listens) • Funding of 60 Hospitality Management students for educational excursions, including Thailand, New York City, Chicago and Bali • Professional develop through our Speed Networking, which annually brings together over 50 industry professionals and 60 students • The awarding of $90,000 in student scholarships and awards • Funding of a dozen guest lecture series and networking mixers • Hosting over 100 students on Hospitality Tours throughout Columbus • Building and strengthening our Hospitality Management Association (HMA), which not only represent the voice of our students, but also has access to additional university resources

We cannot thank you enough for your ongoing support and partnership, which has such a positive impact on so many of our students, and allows us to continue developing future leaders in the hospitality industry in these important and unique ways.

We hope you have a wonderful evening in mingling with industry professionals, our faculty, and our students during this celebration!

Sincerely,

Kim Bartley

Anne Turpin
