OSIA Celebrates THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF ITALY’S UNIFICATION

The 22 nd Annual Memorial Mass was held on Sunday, October 30, 2011, and was dedicated to all our departed brothers and sisters for their unselfish and devoted service to the Order Sons of Italy in America.
This year, the Mass was held at the Holy Family Parish in Lynn, Massachusetts, the parish of our State Chaplain Reverend Gregory Mercurio. The October nor’easter made it difficult for some of our members to travel, but approximately 50
were still able to make it. Sister Marie Jackson was the lector for the first reading; State Recording Secretary Ronald Hill read the Responsorial Psalm and State Trustee (Continued on Page 6)

Grand Lodge Kicks Off Italian Heritage Month with

The annual Columbus Day Parade was held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 in the North End of Boston. The Parade Co-Chairmen, State Trustees John Argiro and Dr. John Christoforo, met the contingent at the front of the Coast
Guard Base on Atlantic Avenue to assemble the marchers. All participating lodges lined up by 11:30 a.m. Prior to the parade, Cardinal Sean Patrick O’Malley celebrated a Mass commemorating Christopher Columbus at St.
Leonard’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Many State Council members participated in the parade, including State President and First Lady James and Kathy DiStefano. (Continued on Page 5)
In celebration of the 150 th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy and Italian Heritage Month, the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts kicked off a month-long series of events on Saturday, October 1, with That’s Amore, an evening of entertainment, dancing and camaraderie featuring the music of Pat Benti and Tutti Pazzi. tantuono prepared an excellent buffet meal. An assortment of appetizers placed on each table was donated, and the committee supplied the desserts. Our invited guests included Consul General Giuseppe Pastorelli, his wife and son, and State President James DiStefano and First Lady Kathleen DiStefano.
